Who the fuck pays for dry cleaning services and why do they do it?
Should I be getting my work dress shirts dry cleaned every week??

>> No.53875369

depends if you are sweating in your shirts or getting your lunch on them or other stains, when i worked in an office and needed to wear shirts every day i just had 5 shirts i rotated every day of the week and would go two or three weeks without getting them cleaned but eventually they do get smelly and you can't wash dress shirts in the washing machine

I rotate through like 12 shirts that I wear 3 or 4 times before washing. But some are a few years old and starting get a little raggedy. I wonder if I should've been dry cleaning them all this time.

If you have a nice coat that you've had for a long time it is well worth doing. If they're good they get rid if loose bits, fix loose threads, loose buttons, broken zips, torn pockets and all sorts of other things that make the coat look aged. I was surprised with how fresh my dress jacket was last time I brought it in. It was as if it came back new.

My dry cleaners would charge 6 bucks a shirt, 24 hour turn around if I dropped them off after work they'd be ready the next day after 5 pm I pick them up on my way home.

Dress shirts and suits are hard to clean and straighten.

like $4 a shirt, so $20 a week

I just bought a few cheap mostly-poliester ones that I can throw in the wash because my goal was simply to not dress like a teenager or repairman. It's not exactly great, but eh, at least looks like you're trying, doubt most people care enough to even think about it. It helps if you mostly wfh anyway I guess.
I feel like newer machines should have a cycle that's gentle enough in any case, though some washing machine knower may correct me.

man here

dry cleaning is necessary for garments that will be destroyed by machine wash.
>jackets
>delicate things
>lady shit like dresses
>anything that says "DRY CLEAN ONLY"

further, a dry cleaner is great for things that need to be ironed, such as slacks and dress shirts, and you don't want to do that every day. dry cleaners typically don't dry clean everything, only things that need to be dry cleaned, everything else will be washed normally.

like other anons, they also offer other convenient services like fixing buttons or ridding stains, but i would take clothes to a tailor for something like zippers or adjustments. Zao Chen Zoo Chong may not be the best for tailoring a jacket you care about, you want a tailor that reputable men go to.

I usually buy relatively cheap polyester "winkle-free" dress shirts too. And they're not noticed much anyway because I wear a white coat at work.

Should I buy French cuff shirts for business and finance purposes? Do I need to wear a jacket with them? Is it worth it to get a nice tailored outfit?

>Is it worth it to get a nice tailored outfit?
if you are
>fit
>not poor
then it is worth it. if you're wearing clothes that don't fit, you are hard to take seriously, and this is accentuated with formal clothes.

You don't always need tailored clothes, like if you're just driving to your cube and back home, you are fine with something from Macy's. But if you're meeting important people, going to a party, etc, you don't want to look like a toolbag.

buy undershirts
wear undershirts under dress shirts

The only items I get dry cleaned are suits, outdoor jackets, and duvets; the latter two because washing down is tricky.
Otherwise I use pic related, which you can get for around $150 on sale. Works incredibly well and fast, and can also be used to scald your captives for interrogation purposes.
I don't even object to the cost of dry cleaning, but to make two trips somewhere just to get shirts and pants on a regular basis seems like a poor use of time.
