Any proof/mint set fags have a favorite year for their country? For me, it's 2009. Six excellent silver quarters, 4 95% copper pennies all in an extra fat box is very nice. 2016 limited edition is also a very strong contender too for the special silver eagle.

Really? They use copper for proof pennies? I don't find many of the circulation strike 2009 cents sorting penny bags and most I do find are pretty nasty, zincolns suck ass. A set of those in copper sounds quite nice.

My mind is still so used to fictional or more roughed up real depictions of PMs that seeing how they shine in your pics feels unreal. Like, it's the real deal and not just some mirror or foil.

No, it was ONLY for the 2009 set (at least, in all post 1981 proof sets) since the pennies were special commemoratives. As an example my 2013 silver proof set still has the shitty 2.5% copper, balance zinc penny. The 2009 set was commemorating 100 years of the Lincoln cent and 200 years from his birth, quote from the COA "Each Lincoln one-cent coin has a composition of 95% copper, its original metals content when first introduced in 1909."
I think it was also the first year based Moy was the mint director, could've been part of the reason.

Fuck yeah man that looks legit to me, on the smaller side (still by far the biggest true old "coin" anyone you know will have ever seen) and poured in a more uniform mold so I'd assume it's a younger example but you got yourself a great deal, the holes ain't bad and can be plugged with some scrap copper I'm sure you have floating around. this is why i stack gold and 100oz silver bars
i'm mostly convinced the reason silver is so popular and can command a higher premium in sovereigns and rounds is that people who can't afford gold but want to get into PM cope with silver and make conspiracy theories like silver will go to $1k
that said, i stick to 100:1 since it's basically a 1:1 investment and i mostly just stack to further diversify my overall portfolio and so if i needed to bugout I could throw all the PMs in my truck, drive to the middle of nowhere, and restart

I've never understood this aversion to premiums on pms, now of course you want to get your pms at the lowest price you can but everything you buy has a premium, people just don't ever think about it. Every pair of pants you buy you pay like an 800% premium for, that steak you order at chili's is 5 dollars with a 15 dollar premium on top. Literally every purchase you make has a premium added to it, the only two ways to avoid it are to find a sucker selling way under the going price because they don't know what they have or to, mine, refine, blank, and stamp your own pms and even then the cost of an individual to do this would likely outstrip the premium a company would charge you not counting the time and physical labor you have to invest. It blows me away that people will go through life paying 50% to 1000% premiums on things daily with zero hesitation or thought and then draw a hard line and complain when they see 15% on pms.

I suppose because things like Pants or Steak is generally sold for reasons beyond the raw material value of the object. You don't really "get your money's worth" out of Gold and Silver like you do clothes or a meal unless it appreciates in value.
Still, for the most part I do think unless you're buying silver eagles, US 90% or Australian Kangaroos the freaking out over premiums is a bit much. Except for Platinum premiums, fuck that if Platinum is so expensive to mint and refine compared to gold and silver it should be reflected in the spot price, fucking platinum eagles have something like 60% premium and they don't at all get the premium back when selling

If you’re buying any gold or silver you’re buying a premium. If you were to sell P2P that premium carries over and may even be a larger amount depending on the change in the market.

Unless you’re selling to a dealer who lives off of the premiums it really is a nothing burger.

With that said, I haven’t seen too many good deals and was lucky to stumble on someone selling their stack of happy windmills.

Buy from a local place or one of the big names online, they have reputations to uphold and won't be selling fakes. If you are going for weight stick with government backed coins and 10oz or bigger bars for silver, and for gold go for 1oz gov coins or something with a long history like gold sovereigns or 20 francs for smaller gold coins. If you want to get numismatics or unique coins just for collecting you need to do alot of your own research, prices can swing wildly from numerous factors when it comes to numismatics and you can easily over pay if you dont know what you are looking at.

>After looking at more pieces im torn between getting matched pieces or just an eclectic set of "the price was right"

That's a tough one, good prices are important from the investment standpoint and since there are so many styles and patterns out there I'm sure you haven't yet come across the ones you'd treasure most, so I'd say keep building an eclectic collection and "trying out" different pieces, you may discover that once in-hand a certain pattern might resonate with you in ways a picture of it online won't. For example I've handled many of the fancy floral Victorian silverware patterns I thought were pretty but when I first fondled some pieces of this 1931 Art Deco style (Symphony by Towle) I knew it was the one for me. The elegant masculine simplicity deriving beauty mostly from the luster of the silver itself instead of a bunch of distracting flowers and scrollwork appealed in-hand in a way I wouldn't have imagined just looking at pictures. Took a while but I collected together a decent set of them lurking patiently for cheapies. Unless you know for certain what pattern you want I'd caution against saddling yourself with a bunch of matching stuff that you may eventually realize you don't actually like all that much.

This, scraptards turning perfectly good sterling into generic cast bars you can find mass produced at any bullion dealer feel no better than someone who would burn an old painting to fuel a fire. obviously there's shit that's beyond repair but if you want silver sell the intact sterling and just use the cash to buy it, destroying irreplaceable vintage artifacts for money bricks is really rotten and barbarian.

You need to get a better handle on the difference between "irreplaceable" vintage and soulless mass-produced vintage. My higher quality sterling stack alone is heftier than most PM piles here but lots of the sterling I get truly is just scrap-quality crap of no aesthetic or historical merit. Sadly I think the garage refining anon would melt all the stuff I've saved if he had gotten it instead, but for now it's quite safe.

Hello again /pmg/, it's me: the faggot who keeps joining these threads to troll because I'm mad that they exist. I just wanted to remind you all once again that there's only two things that can ever possibly happen:

A) the continuation of the macroeconomic status quo and the continued profitability of conventional investing and money-making strategies
B) the total breakdown of society wherein only bullets, food, and other such prepping supplies would have value as day-to-day survival takes precedence over currency or investment, amid mass violence, starvation, and war

Again, I will assert that no outcome between either of these extremes is possible, and therefore all of these inflation hedges you all keep talking about are totally pointless. This is what is known as a "false dichotomy", a logical fallacy often employed by people who are arguing in bad faith (such as myself).

This is why references to historical and contemporary examples which would seem to illustrate other possibilities will be a waste of your time. It's not an actual discussion you see, as I will never acknowledge that this refutes my argument. You will only get evasive snark or insults, and I will just restate my fallacy again. If this seems like strange behavior, please refer back to my first sentence regarding how I am a faggot.

I hear you saying "OK fine, so you're a huge faggot, but why do you keep doing this? what motivates you?" Indeed, it's a good question. Am I a shill for JPM? Am I invested in something else and mad about any disagreement? No one really knows for sure, but one thing you can count on is that I will be back tomorrow to do it all over again.

Well, I have to run now... I've got a lot of dicks to suck today, you see. Ta-ta for now, you dumb gold bugs!

I put half in pm and half in mining stocks two years ago. If I would have put every single dollar of my networth in physical gold and silver two years ago I'd have been much better off. The stocks I'm down about 50% on but still holding. Lesson learned though.

When I first had the breakthrough moment in 2020 when I realized the markets were a scam and inflation was going to wreck the economy, basically the redpill... I freaked out and liquidated everything I had. All the normie tech stocks, the real estate etc. I wanted to put 90% of it into physical metals and I was so close to doing it. But I said "nah, that's TOO conspiracy theory and conservative" so I went with 50/50 physical pms and commodity stocks. If only I'd listened to my gut lol. I'd have another 300k instead of being down.

So lesson learned and you never go wrong with buying pms and if anything you aren't buying as much as you should.

Spend a year learning about stocks before you buy them or you will make dumb mistakes. If I had waited two months for example before my first stock purchase, I could have avoided the fifty percent losses I'm currently experiencing. There's never a rush to get into stocks. I use amertitrade. Don't use Robinhood.

One of the most important concepts to learn with stocks is that price doesn't matter. Market cap does. The market cap and number of shares available is what matters.

Marketcap is how much the company is worth. Number of shares is how many shares are available and that determines a price

Just because a stock is fifty cents doesn't mean it's cheap. It can actually mean it's expensive. Just because a stock is fifty dollars doesn't mean it's expensive.

The marketcap is how much the company is worth. Not endorsing this company at all but iotneay silver for example has 130 million proven ounces of silver in the ground, yet their marketcap is only thirty million dollars. On a pure napkin math evaluation, the company is severely undervalued by a factor of almost 20x. Now add in cost to get the silver out of the minez be super aggressive on expenses and you could say the stock is undervalued by at least 3-5x. These are the kinds of stocks I buy.

1. People do stack PMs here for investing and savings, but it's mostly gold and platinum. You can find gold and platinum bars everywhere, but not so much coins, and silver is a bit hard to find in reasonable sizes and prices.
2. What silver you do find will mostly be numismatic, so you will be paying a sizeable premium on it.
3. There are a few coin shops around Tokyo area, all are pretty easy to find on google.

Stop thinking about premiums. There is no "premium", there is only "cost to acquire metal". "premium" is a jewish term like "cis gendered" to get you to think they way they want you to think.

It is *spot* that is a lie. Even if it wasn't manipulated (which it is, which is why "premiums are so high), "spot" is what you would hypothetically pay for a minimum of 5000 oz to be delivered at some unknown time in the future. Hardly a reflection of the true value of something.

In the 'we buy gold' places if they have any then they stick some huge mark up on it. Guess if I want a set i'll have to pay up for a new one. Chances of finding a cheap set in the UK seems to be nil. Was looking into casting too, can't even seem to find casting grains (or shot whatever) at a reasonable price, half the places that sell it want more than melting down 1 kilo bars of silver.

Came back the next day, still there. sterling. same old bird on the desk said oh I saw you come and look at them yesterday, got talking to her, managed to get a discount out of her just by having a chat, told her I really like em but blah blah blah. Worth a try innit.

>>53872340
>Went to 3, last one had the spoons
Post pics fren, what kind of spoons did you get? I've bought cheapies from England before on eBay priced low enough that after shipping to burgerland they were still good deals, but I've noticed that generally competition in the UK for sterling silverware is extreme, with more watchers and higher sales prices per gram than for the equivalent stuff being sold in the USA. I think that the VAT situation there makes silverware hoarding even more appealing to bongs than it is here. A nice thing I've noticed is that Georgian silverware often doesn't have much of a premium so you can get 200+ year old silver pretty easily at around melt value, it's often completely "plain" and of heavy-duty construction, I appreciate the honest simplicity of the stuff.

Forgot to mention that the shops where you've had luck should be prioritized in the future, if they missed those pieces they clearly don't scrutinize their cutlery so chances of finding more cheapies are much higher. Next time in you should ask when they bring out fresh inventory. One mom & pop thrift shop I like only seems to look for gold jewelry, they recognize sterling but price it really cheap anyway. Last time I was there I found an unpriced little sterling dish and brought it to the guy, he looked it over, saw the hallmark and said "hmm, this is sterling silver", I asked what price he was thinking and he said he'd sell it for 2 bucks kek.
