I'm curious what the Marxist stacker would say about this picrel.

I've never had quite a word to put on it but I've always felt that a "true capitalism" would necessitate sound money based on something like gold or silver. Fiat currency--where money is essentially a legal instrument and not a tangible store of value--seems decidedly not conducive to a free market. Rather, fiat is a natural consequence of a command, top-down economic structure.

>> No.53766580

I can understand the confusion because capitalism and corporatism do blur with one another the more people you add to a business. Even with that in mind, I think the most definitive difference is when a company has public shares vs private shares as the latter only applies to the workforce in the company.

Hi scrapfren!
>>53751011
>I can't find the nice bronze coin I have floating around somewhere but these are my very oldest "French" silver coins.
That's amazing stuff scrapfren. That big Massa' coin on top is in a really great condition too! I've yet to take the ancient numismatic pill, i started to peek around here and there 2 years ago but i've been discouraged by the fear of fakes. Idk how prevalent they are, but since i've zero knowledge i always assume the worst.

How much did you pay for those coins for example? Since you live in the US, it must be adding quite a premium to anything helenic/roman, right?
Do you have any lil tips to recognize a genuine coin from a falsely aged repro?

That's something i really want to get into eventually. For now my budget is really tight (especially with my car breaking down), but i find it incredible 2 millenias old artifacts like this are still so cheap. Imagine spending 500K on an ape jpg while you could have an amazing collection of ancient civilizations' time capsules who somehow miraculously survived until now, it's like Hephaistos-bonding with our ancestors. But no, nfts and shitcoins... we truly live in late stage clownworld.

>>53762232
>what I recommend you do is look for a solid-sterling "fish knife", they were 1-piece construction with a solid silver blade
I recently bid on a "fermier generaux" one to go along my old silverware, not quite the same as a fish knife, since it was only silver blade + other materials used for the handle, they are often referred as "butter knives". And they seems to be quite rare and sought after, because the auction ended up at x6 spot -and that was for the gross weight- so.. far above my means, and the handle was in mother-of-pearl iirc.
Those fish knives you talk about, do they are the ones with a different shape than normal knives and no teeth?

Exactly. It is a centralized instrument with a monopoly over the store of labor. The left needs the central bank for their central planning and distribution of goods. They will argue that it should be receipts instead of cash for specific food items so it limits everyone what they can have, but that is exactly what CBDC will do as that store of labor is programmable so everyone will be limited what they can buy and when they can buy it. It's the ultimate collectivist tyranny.

Corporations are artificial people created by statute. They are fictional entities that can own property, go to court, enter into contracts, just like real people. None of this is true for real individual humans.

But on the other hand, suppose we were in a society where we bartered with one another using things like Best Buy and McDonald's gift cards, which have a store of value that are based on a corporate determination rather than a government one. Even if this occurs in a free market setting there's something about this that strikes me as equally fraudulent because the money doesn't derive its value from a tangible good. The only difference in this scenario is it's made up by a corporate entity rather than a government one.

If more people realized that their “money” was printed blindly by a private entity and loaned to the actual government there would be politicians hanging from street lamps in Minecraft before the day was done.

The concept we have of capitalism has long since been replaced and the exact time and date as to when that happened is argued. Maybe the removal of the gold standard, maybe the birth of the federal reserve, maybe the removal of silver from a bimetal economy.

Nonetheless, assuming that our modern system of capitalism isn’t anything besides a centralized and despotic means of control is adhering to an idealistic hope that the Monopoly man has your best interests at heart.

Fuck me drive through any deindustrialized town or city and you’ll see that gutting their own country in the pursuit of maximized profit is the sole focus of our long nosed masters.

I still feel communists aren’t just so bitter at their standing within modern society that the answer of total revolution tickles their balls because at least their abusers would be dead even if they’re now condemned to starve.

There is a cognitive dissonance between crypto-maximalists and their comparisons between the evils of fiat/CDBC and Bitcoin.

Do they really think that the ever growing transition to digital currency isn’t going to be met with ever tightening restrictions on crypto?

Without going down the schizo rabbit hole of how crypto is all just a CIA/NWO/WEF red herring to normalize the initial introduction of digital goods or how Sam Bankman-Fried was tied to major members of government:

>why the fuck would a government whose active goal is to restrict and control your spending allow you to use a “decentralized” alternative currency?

Bitcoin in Niggeria is being used in opposition of the new CBDC being rolled out and enforced by their government but we are such gaping vaginas in the West that we’ll likely embrace it immediately.

It wasn't silver or gold, but recently I got coins in my change that are as old and older than me.
Also, I'm tempted by this cheap "cyberpunk" note just because of the times we live in:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CR7iLv9t0uQ
It's got an interesting amount of security features including either UV/blacklight features.
Only a shame that it doesn't feature any PMs as far as I can tell. I've seen Nadir put 1 gram and 1/10th of a gram of gold into a "Karatbar" which is basically a card/note surrounding the gold.
Would've been cool if similar was done with silver on this product (unless it is and I just missed that?)
But to stay a little more on-topic here are some coins that seem to be in the same series:

Asking again for more replies.

Question: I can get pic related for ~7% premium; if I want a state minted coin it’s closer to double that. Is it better to stick with smaller premiums to stack weight, even if it’s an unusual format?

I figure when times comes to sell I’ll likely get SPOT anyway. So may as well keep premiums down in the front end. Thoughts?

It helps to know where you are, as local taxes, VATs, and maybe other restrictions come to bear.
If I have any misgivings, I don't buy the piece.
My personal preference is to buy things that I like now, rather than buy for what I speculate will appeal to others in some distant future when I might sell.
If you're just stacking, go for low premium. You might be able to get the best of both worlds - buy old European gold coinage - francs, ducats, pesos(?), coronas... They have very low premiums, are fractional weights, are alloyed so they' can withstand fondling, and have no numismatic value.

For the ones potentially interested, there is a quite rare and remarkable item on sale whose auction is ending soon on ebay. It's a pair of prussian Augsburg candelabras, second half of XVIIIth c..
They weight a total of 1.724kg, the base may be weighted, but it's not specified in the description.
So far the highest disclosed bid is at 826€ ($880), it will probably end up higher, as ancient candlesticks are really sought after from what i understand.

I was planning to snipe it initially, but i don't have enough cash for the moment, so i prefer to share it with the frens.

This is a division of labor issue and the market ought to demand that I can pay a fair amount for this equipment as long as enough people quit going along with the greedy schemes of these companies.

That’s not even an opinion it’s just fact, but gold minted and hallmarked and recognized is quite different from some random gold homebrew or we wouldn’t even be discussing this topic.
>>53769829
There is no reason not to mint a gold coin or a silver coin and do the same thing, this is passing a novelty as some economic innovation. I’m not sure if there is some legal hurdle they are overcoming by doing this so I cannot speak to that.

>Those fish knives you talk about, do they are the ones with a different shape than normal knives and no teeth?
Yeah, some makers offered sets of forks and knives that were specifically made for fish. This is my only one, I'd like more but they're kinda scarce so cheapies don't show up often.
>How much did you pay for those coins for example? Since you live in the US, it must be adding quite a premium to anything helenic/roman, right?
I approach numisfagging the same way I stack; I usually buy only when it's a good deal significantly below retail value so I can generate a profit if I was ever forced to liquidate. The big one was only $34.26 USD shipped, and I got a batch of 5 silver obols for 35 or $40 shipped then sold 2 individually to pay for what I kept. The bronze was $28.78 and definitely worth it, when I figure out where I put it I'll show a pic. Even at retail price ancient coins feel criminally undervalued for how interesting they are, and when you can get them cheap there's no comparison to the boring mass-produced sovlless machine-made modern junk most people collect.
>Do you have any lil tips to recognize a genuine coin from a falsely aged repro?
Unfortunately no, ancient coins are a complicated realm that only an autist can really wrap their mind around, the best way to avoid fakes is to buy from reputable ancient-specialist sellers, but those coins usually cost closer to retail. The good deals are usually from people who don't have an established store or customer base who are selling collections or consignments, but determining whether the coins are legit and if the chances are high you'll get good deals takes experience and intuition. You are definitely wired right to do it but it takes a while to build the core knowledge and experience.

luv me some poured/cast loaf bars, good luck hunting down some cheapies. Keep in mind that the earliest birds get the underpriced rarities, and the latest birds can haggle with dealers just about to pack up and leave for better deals on both rarities and generic stuff that they didn't manage to sell. It's similar to a flea market just about to close, the sellers are often much more willing to sell cheap to get a final sale and avoid having to pack it up and bring it back home to languish until the next show.

Not everyone, just the simple minded. There's only speculation when it will happen exactly, however there are some key things to take note of that will lead to it crashing:

>Draining the COMEX
This will expose the derivative futures being used on the market to suppress silver price. If you've got nothing in the vault you can't use a derivative on this silver. This would cause the true price discovery to be known that would cause a migration out of fiat into a silver monetary system crashing fiat value. It nearly happened in the early 80's which is why so many people are focused on it.

>BRICS
Has the possibility of partitioning the world economy and dethroning the US dollar as the world currency. It's still years away but appears to be a sure thing, going full steam by 2050. When new nations join BRICS and drop their US dollars, the currency will come back to the United States and flood its market with massive inflation.

>Crackup Boom
When the United States population views the US dollar as worthless paper, as a result of currency printing and nations around the world dropping their US dollars. This here is the event horizon moment, but when it will happen is anyone's guess. I personally think it will happen within the next ten years, but you never know, the United States might have something up its sleeve like debt trapping Ukraine through BlackRock rebuilding program.

I’m back from the show lads, finally broke 200 ozt. Feels good. Got a Buffalo round, some mercs, FDRs, and Franklin halves. Prices were aight, pretty close to online but without having to pay the tax Jew. I feel like they were comparably cheaper when spot was higher, but if I was into numismatics I think I could’ve found some decent deals.

I will transition the baby chicken nuggets to whole grain seed (sunflowers, oats, rye, millet) that is soaked overnight and broadcast until piles of compost. The chickens get slightly fermented whole grain immediately and what they miss becomes sprouts that grow in nutritional content. I think the starter feed is untouched and shouldn’t inhibit their ability to lay later in life BUT I’ll be transitioning them to the good stuff ASAP.

>> No.53776897

If you’re talking about personal consumption than a couple of beds broadcast sown with leafy greens, herbs, and root vegetables (make a mix of whatever you like) and directly sown with whatever fruiting crops you like (okra, squash, tomatoes, cucumbers, etc.) will create a garden space where you get to harvest salad greens and root vegetables while your bigger crops use them as a living mulch.

Staple and storage crops like potatoes and sweet potatoes can take up a whole bed or multiple but I split them between beds with wildflowers and cover crop growing to limit immediate pest pressure.

Regarding market gardening it is all about where you are. City folk will happily pay out the ass for salad greens but out here in the county folks are scared of red okra since they grew up on grammy’s green okra and are terrified of change.

I know a guy who exclusively sells potatoes in spring and okra in the summer and that is literally the start and stop of his entire business model.

This is our first year here so I’m not planting for market; focusing just on building the soil, getting a personal kitchen garden built, and bringing in chickens.

Moment the house is done I’ll build a greenhouse attached to the south side of my home to regulate temperature like a DIY AC unit. We’ll start thousands of perennials (fruit trees, fruiting shrubs, and herbs) that might see demand locally but I think will definitely have an online interest. Folks charge way too much for my liking for certain plants when I know it doesn’t take much space, time, or effort to grow comfrey or sunchokes.

Yep that was me too, if you want a cheap ancient silver Medusa coin look for a Drachm from Apollonia Pontica (also spelled Pontika), they are common for ancient silver coins and go up for auction frequently, be aware that there are fakes though.
Here's a cast fake for sale, this is a notorious scammer seller: https://www.ebay.com/itm/165937660228
Here's a genuine one up for auction, the seller has other nifty coins for sale too: https://www.ebay.com/itm/385414622961

In scrap news today I won 10 different auction lots from a single seller, a mix of .830 and sterling silver items. The largest lot was this batch of attractive .830 silverware which cost about $140 total, no weight or dimensions given but I think chances are good they're full size dinner forks and soup spoons and weigh ~500g. A few lots for single pieces I won were ridiculously cheap thanks to combined shipping and the lack of stated weight/dimensions scaring away noob scrappers, I'll post results when they're delivered. Happy hunting fren.

They're recognized by a fair number of people and I'd be surprised if any LCS didn't know about them.
At the LCS near me at least I can get 1 ounce of gold by buying those for 100-200 less than buying 1 ounce coins.
Additionally it's fractional which could come in handy. Also often roughed up to the point where you're not as worried about handling it.
Finally a seller (LCS, online shop or individual) might let a prized date slip by, which you can then flip for more than the average price and then buy a sovereign plus some more.

Anyway I'm confident you'll find an incredible deal sooner or later, just a matter of time before you get a full silverware set with dozens of pieces for like 100 euros. Here is one of the most egregious cheapies I got from the seller today, I'm pretty sure it's an ~8" serving fork that weighs about 60g, shipping for all 10 lots was $20 so with its share of shipping it was under $5 total kek. In the Midwest, the silver plate is priced like sterling and the sterling is way over priced because boomers “know what they got”. You have to get extremely lucky. Same with furniture. The beat to shit ugly 1970’s oak dresser or table is listed as “antique” and way overpriced. In general, everything being sold by boomers is overpriced. They rather not sell it than sell it at a fair price. Auctions are bad too because most things worth buying sell for market price. But then people find out that they have to pay tax and auction fees and just overpaid by 20%.
