PM's have no value because you can't verify they are even real. There is no way to verify a gold bar sealed in plastic with a nice credit suise logo is even real. i could have just bought the machine that seals it in plastic and printed off the nice logo and stuck a spray painted chunk of tungsten in there. what are you going to do? open it? lol. if you do you run the risk of devaluing your own gold, if in fact it is fake you would be better off leaving it in there and trying to dump it on someone else.

Yes there is - XRF machine.

If you are buying physical, then buy bullion sovereigns, Britannias, eagles, krugs, etc. They're easy to test at home, and doesn't impact value if you handle them, as they're bullion only.

This lol

Gold is a very dense metal, so the dimensions are going to be the same for its weight.

E.g 1 oz gold bar wont have the same dimensions as 1 oz iron or bronze or copper because of the physical properties of gold

So its actually very easy to spot fake gold because the fake bars will look too big for its advertised weight

the problem with precious metals is that you have to verify authenticity for every transaction, or you have to trust the other party (and trusting them gives them a massive incentive to screw you). In theory just verifying authenticity at each transaction shouldn't be a problem if you're buying/selling with businesses who have the capability to do this, but there's always a surcharge for doing so.
