Maybe if you live in one of the outer boroughs. If you live in Manhattan your choices are a) a nigger ghetto b) a studio apartment with three roommates c) spending half your income on rent d) making 500k salary. None of those are really feasible options.

Move to a small/medium city with a university. Somewhere in fly-over and 75+% white. An example would be Fayetteville Arkansas. I'm already regretting moving from there to hicksville 4 hours east. If you've ever lived in the shithole that is New York City you would know why it's not worth it
1. You are going to be raped by state and city taxes if you are a high earner. And if you are worth anything, you will be a high earner. Capital gains will be taxed as income so have fun with that
2. Violent niggers that get released as soon as they are arrested. Your taxes will be used to keep them alive and healthy.
3. Retarded leftism and cancel culture
4. New York is obstinately anti-crypto. Your ONLY fiat onramp cex options are Coinbase and Gemini.

Depends. If you are a talented and determined individual then you'll be able to capitalize on opportunities you might not get the chance at otherwise, simply due to proximity to so many of the big movers and shakers.

On the other hand the cost of living means you're required to hustle harder, and that can burn some people out. I'm living in Brooklyn and really love it in some ways but there's basically no chance I will ever own property here and the city's energy, while stimulating, can become oppressive at times.

Having lived in Chicago (and grown up in the west burbs, there), Denver, Seattle, Portland, Frisco, and now Philadelphia, Chicago has the least amount of interesting counter culture and underground culture, though. And unlike the east and west coasts, that are full of counter culture, and nearby many other cities, that you can get to in just an hour or two, Chicago is surrounded by nothing but suburbs and corn. There are no mountains. There are no forests (except the tourist trap sliver of Starved Rock three hours out). A bulk of the residents are midwestern suburban in origin, and thus very bland. Your only real options for things to do are:
>shopping
>restaurants
>the same museums over and over
>the same parks over and over
>plays

All that is very nice and all, but without thriving unique subcultures and counter cultures, and what ones that used to exist largely dead and dried up, once walking around the same park 100x gets old, people just become shut in consoomers, just spending countless hours in front of televisions (the midwest, in general). The lack of forests and mountains really sucks, too. It's really only a good city for boomers, bland mildly overweight white collar workers and basedboys, sports fans, and consoomers. Living in a lot of other cities really shows you how lame Chicago is, comparatively. Just bland, overall.

Myself at 35 years old, always city dweller, since post college, and having lived alone on and off, living with roommates or a partner, I think, ultimately, is the wiser decision. "Good luck living in your expensive shoebox"

- PoorAsShitAnon from Date Rape, Louisiana

Big cities are worth it. You make more money, meet interesting people of all stripes. Statistically, you will make more friends, and date more people. There are so many reasons people want to live there and thus expensive. Don't listen to people who never left home.

Cities are playgrounds for people with money. If you make 250K+ you can live in a city and have a great time. Everyone else is part of a sort of underclass that makes sacrifices to live there for whatever reason. As someone who started out in a major city making 50K I was legit poor which blew my mind. Like living with people on welfare poor. Even though I was making a "decent" wage by average US standards. I have worked my way up to 250K and I can pretty much take advantage of everything the city has to offer now. Expensive restaurants, travel (incl. trains since it's the northeast corridor), spas, art, etc. are not out of reach. But I have a lot of acquaintances that are broke and basically cannot do any of this stuff and just work all the time. NYC is just at the top of what that 'floor' for comfortable income is. I like Philadelphia actually and it has a significantly lower floor on comfortable income in exchange for some trades offs, but it's easy to Amtrak into NYC if you wanted...

>>53708189

I disagree with you that Chicago sucks but because it's basically a midwest city it is cut off in a way and distinctly missing the connection to its closest neighbors in the northeast corridor which adds a lot of value to places like Philadelphia and even Baltimore. It makes up with it through significantly lower COL though considering the size/job opportunities

Incel philosophy around 'dating scenes' is so annoying. What gets you laid in Kansas City is not going to get you laid in NYC. What gets you laid in NYC is not gonna get you laid in San Francisco. If you live in Texas and are a Texas cowboy type person you probably won't have a ton of luck getting laid easily in NYC considering they're going to want someone who is a little more metropolitan. And that's true conversely as well. It's a read the room sort of situation. Depending on your personality and style if you're looking for best dating prospects you need to kind of match the culture of where you're going. Love to go to the beach, and tan, and show off at the pool? Probably want to go to Miami instead of Denver. It's about that simple...

We are on 4chan. The average guy, and I'd be willing to be describes ~80% of the user base here, is somewhat quiet/reserved, makes a modest income, might have a few friends but isn't a socialite type, kind of sits in the corner and observes whenever in a loud social setting like a club or bar.

If you're this kind of person and are struggling to pick up chicks in smaller towns/cities, basically tutorial mode dating scenes, you are not going to be doing any better in NYC going up against Giga Chad, Richboy Shlomowitz and friends. That is just a patent fantasy.

>> No.53708686

Having lived in midwest whole life, and in chicago for awhile, I can see his point in that the area is comprised of midwest people and thus a little plain. It isn't a bad thing but nothing here stands out to me as cutting edge or hip. The club scene won't blow your mind and while there are a lot of attractive people it isn't like a Miami or Atlanta where everyone is strutting their stuff 24/7.

I personally really like it because it's pretty chill. I don't find the CoL to be bad at all. Great restaurants everywhere, great bar scenes, more than enough live events to go to. I'd say this is one of the few decent sized cities I'd be comfortable raising a family in.

I've always thought of counter-culture and grunge and art type scenes. You typically only get these types of communities developing in cheaper locations. DC is a great example - when it was still chocolate city it had an amazing punk scene. However, as the city is being gentrified and 'cleaned up' (it's pretty sterile now, if not a lot safer) these communities are priced out and move away (punk moved out partially to Baltimore for example). I would find it hard to believe Chicago doesn't have some counterculture communities because it's actually much cheaper to live there than most major cities, and I do think that's the major driving factor. I think NYC is even falling victim to this where most of the interesting counter-culture stuff has been kicked out to further and further boroughs as people are priced out. This is literally when Starbucks and Chase take over all the storefronts and you lose your long-time dive bars, music venues, comedy places, etc. to corporate BS

This man lives in NYC on only $22,000 a year and is literally happier than the majority of people with six-figure jobs.

And it's not just him acting for the camera because there's people in the comments who met him in real life and say he's one of the best people ever.

If you practice self-care, work at keeping your mental health positive, and learn to live within your means and appreciate the simple things in life, like just sitting in the park and talking with a friend or reading a book, over being obsessed with owning the latest and greatest gadgets, you don't need a six-figure job to live in NYC.

This. That's why Frisco has become "out," while Philly is becoming "in." Frisco has been almost fully gentrified. So many of the cool spots, from hackerspaces to houses, are gone. Philly has a lot of poverty, it has a lot of crime. It's also only 100 mins out of NYC and the cost of living is cheap as shit. There is a certain lawlessness to the city. There is a lot of nature around here. You can get away a lot of "semi-legal" or "mildly illegal" with shit, and afford living here. All this brings in creative and "radical" youth and folk to this city, looking to do things besides work the 9-5. And hence, you get a lot of that art and punk scene (over 40 active house venues here now). You get 4 active Food Not Bombs groups. You get a collective run anarchist bookstore. You get a lot of huge houses, full of people, doing art, riding bikes instead of driving, involved in a lot of punk and community shit. You get spaces and groups open and running since the mid 80's and 90's, that are still going strong.

Chicago used to have this. The lower west side, in the Little Village community, had a huge punk scene and anarchist community. You also had a very large art warehouse/burner-esc underground psytrance, goa, etc., electronic music scene. Other similar communities, as well. But over time, more and more spots closed, and unlike with Philly, where people moved there, and opened new stuff, in Chicago, people are all moving away, and so things are just dying, or dead.

You realize most of newyork is CO-OP condos so if you make above 25$/hr you just buy a place and resell it for a tiny profit due to co-op pricing laws. NYC isn't just manahattan.

Co-OP condos also keep niggers away.

NYC is a shit hole and , despite what coping citycels will tell you, there really isn’t that much to do outside of “muh restaurants” and “this new cocktail bar just opened and is X themed!”

I live in rural Michigan but used to live in NYC, and life has so many more possibilities now. Will say NYCis great in your 20s if you want to sleep around and do the cliche big city experience

But in terms of living a rewarding lifestyle and yes even building wealth, you’re better off other places

Realistically the sexcapades is for your 20s. If you’re in your 30s and your hobbies still revolve around getting laid, bars, clubs, drugs etc you’re a loser.

The big city life is great for people to postpone adulthood by a decade. You basically can relive college years in a Chicago or NYC for another 10 years, it’s great. But damn it’s sad if you are mid 30s still doing that with nothing to show for it

I kinda regret not moving to the city when I was earlier in my 20’s, I was too focused on wanting to buy a house asap. It’s paid off financially, I’m on the property ladder, but being here is so fucking boring. I would also much rather live in NYC than DC. If I’m gonna do the city life it’s go big or go home. Maybe I should rent out my house and move to the big shitty but I’ll be like 30 by the time that happens

people who live in the middle of nowhere think sitting in one of their 7 rooms in their house is a hobby. instead of, you know, going outside. having a walk. visiting a park. going to a museum. that's the fundamental difference between someone who thinks having a big house means 'freedom.' the freedom to sit on your couch, then sit in your dining room, then go into your sunroom. to people like this his home is a place to sleep and rest in between other things he does. having a big place of living just encourages you to stay in. i'd prefer to be motivated to leave

This. It's the boomer trap. Work your ass off to own a big house, then buy four televisions, three couches, fifteen different chairs. You can only sit in one chair at a time, though. And the more you work at your lackluster job, the more tired you become. Old habbits fade. Friendships vanish. And at the end of it, you just end up with a ton of crap, no meaning in your life, in some rural or suburban Hell, fat and unhealthy. Then work, television, cell phone, on repeat, until death.

The city, conversely, provides large social circles. There are places you can take classes at. There are festivals and conventions of like minds where you can trade ideas and make new friends. You can join a club or go to some weekly meetup to meet new folk. You can go out and dance with others, or watch a sportsball game with fellow fans. If one community slows are feels dried up, there are a dozen more to explore. There is more to life than just work, mini malls, and your house.

And as such, so often a house becomes a prison, if in a shit area, where the house is just an island. I'd much rather rent, and keep my possessions low, and stack fat savings, than own some boomer cuck shack in bufu.

Seems rather stockholm syndrome-ish. I finally moved out of my mom's house at 30. It's a 3bdr single family tract house in a cookie-cutter suburb, but I still enjoy finally having separate rooms for eating, sleeping, and gaming. I am still pretty motivated to go outside and socialize. Getting my own place / bigger space didn't change that. I just get to spread out more whenever I get back home and just want to relax.

>> No.53712990

Yes it is, even if you're a poofag. You can find a good deal on a room (yes with roommates) if you know what do look for. Even in a nice neighborhood, you just have to have an IQ north of 100. As far as dating, you can meet plenty of different types, depending what you go for. One night stands probably easier to get, if you're desperate you can just marry a foreigner and help them get a citizenship. They love you long time. Even then there are nice things to occupy you, plenty of niches. Four seasons too is kino; Fallis comfy, Winter, harsh, but blissful, Spring, beautiful, but short, Summer hot af, but plenty of free parties, and eye candy. Central Park also hosts free concerts in the summer. Saw Herbie Hancock last summer for free, that shit was kino, top five concert, and it was free. But yes if you're rich it's basically Disney World with 100x more drugs and sex

The majority of wealthy and successful men in big metropolitan cities like New York and London end up getting married young as they know it's far easier to focus on making money when your home life is sorted. The dating scene you fantasise about is mostly found in films and TV shows. Of course, there will be a handful of men in their early 30s making 500k+ a year in a big corporation who are banging multiple hot chicks a week, but these are a minority. Dating is a lot more resource intensive than you probably think, emotionally, time-wise, and financially.
The most common path seems to be getting married young, having kids, and then starting to enjoy the dating scene after you inevitably divorce in your early 40s.

I lived there 5 years as a starving real estate agent and now I moved back home to a small town to take over my families multi million pound business. I actually think I was more happy in NY and want to go back after I have money. I had a gf for two years, she was litterally just a customer that emailed me and asked me out for a coffee. Tinder is far easier, I had girls I was talking to and they were litterally 100m away from me and we met in a park much easier to go from talking to meeting vs small towns where you have to find some bar or restaurant to go to and then once you’re done you have to get back in cars.
Much more to enjoy and do, living in a small town is comedically the opposite almost like I got what I wished for. Making much more money I’m one of the richest in the area now and is more relaxing and less busy but it quickly becomes boring and feeling like you’re trapped in a fish tank. What is the point in having a lambo here? I generally wouldn’t want to drive round in a lambo where the weather is shit and everyone is poor

Despite this, whenever I wanted to stack my savings, its never taken me more than 3 weeks to get a job in tech, even with the huge resume gaps, etc.. And when, in 2020, I wanted to "get more serious" with things, I only needed to self teach web dev for 3 months, then once again apply 3 weeks, before I got a $98k job, which is now $123k job. Our company is also desperate for new developers, with the pickings still extremely thin for good devs. You just think there are no opportunities because you are a self defeating incel who can't interact with people properly. You never succeed because you never try, and if you do try, you quit quickly.

Only Manhattan is extremely expensive. Parts of Brooklyn can be very expensive too. If you're doing hybrid remote or don't mind a longer commute, there are tons of adjacent areas with cheap housing. Staten Island, NJ, Queens etc. have cheaper housing than a lot of cities and have a lot to offer there as well. There's far more culture to consume in some random suburb on Long Island than an entire "city" like Austin. Public transportation is also good, with trains going quite far. The crime rates are some of the best in the country. The only thing that sucks is all the regulatory bullshit. I think you can escape most of it by living in NJ instead. I don't live in NYC and never have, but I've probably spent hundreds of hours comparing different locations in my pursuit of finding the best place to live and I'm strongly considering it. I'm a bit worried about what the people might be like. I'm not sure if the NA wokeness is as bad as the internet makes it seem.
