That's one perk of the job from the Capitalist's perspective, but you could do that with UBI. Cashiers exist not to allow customers to negotiate prices directly, but to mediate between customer desires and corporate policy (and are increasingly necessary the more of a clusterfuck the policies are). The most basic example is helping a customer navigate corporate's asinine stocking policies.
