How much money can you make by stealing train tracks?

>> No.53636924

>>53636884
probably not what its worth
I know where piles of old rail tracks are. just lying there. anyone with a flatbed truck with a crane and oxy fuel torch could easily just drive up and crane them on to his flatbed. oxy torch for trimming bent ones or cutting lengths.

the only money you can make near railroad tracks involve hobos

Just hook up some sort of gyro for free electricity. If the tracks are busy, you're set until someone notices you're causing minute amount of friction

You don't scrap it, you cut it into 1ft sections and point one end. Sell as craft anvils.

why would you sell/ship $1 worth of steel on ebay? metal is cheap

>> No.53637252

I was just researching this last week.

Here’s the deal.

1) the tracks are property of the railroad company and if they are within a certain distance of their property (IE where the tracks were laid) then you are stealing from them, which is illegal

2) cutting them and moving them is quite the endeavor and requires heavy equipment

3) most, if not all scrap yards will NOT take tracks because they are property of the railroad, unless you have a signed document from the railroad company stating you are allowed to scrap them. Keep in mind some scrap yards may not care

4) price, I think the steel recycles for .40 a pound. Figure a 20 foot track can perch between $400-800

Overall, not worth it, there is a reason why the tracks are just laying there.

much easier to chop down a telephone pole, that’s a cord of firewood in just a few minutes using simple hand tools

If shorting rail companies is allowed in this scenario quite a bit. Can't recommend it however.
