People were just happy the prospectors had come in then some asshat started posting pol worthy designs they had no intention of making and others got annoyed in and started making uneccesary big deal about it all and people left for a bit so the thread went quiet. I’d say that was part of board culture, but jannies were too heavy handed.

Not many examples of that on this website and it was pretty cool. It's clear it quickly overstayed its welcome to many pmg-goers. How many meme coins can they churn out and mark up before people find it tiresome? Tellurium is absolutely toxic fren. I ain't tellin' another man what's right for him. Just lettin' you know that's it's a toxic metal. If you don't handle it much, it should be fine. Just use gloves if you do. It's not so much that it's highly toxic, it's that it has no biological role and thus bioelimination routes are few. It's why I asked about garlic breath. Te toxicity causes the victim to have garlic like breath due to the elimination of Te as dimethyl telluride.

Center batch in that screenshot is primarily silverplate but a handful is sterling, top and bottom batches are all good silver alloy though. Weather permitting I'll be picking up a load of over 310 ounces from the refinery this upcoming week so I'll have a fresh receipt handy, I'll happily post it right after you post yours from all those monster boxes of eagles (200% premiums in 2 more weeks amirite lmao) you brag about having bought in February 2020. Extra 'tard here but how would one safely know said stuff is silver (sterling I'm guessing) if you're at a flea market or something? I've only considered coins and small stuff due to ease of stashing (less space than pile of cutlery/plates) and the uncertainty factor; being a newb and a retard certainly doesn't help though.

Familiarize yourself with the most common hallmarking systems in your country: In the USA it's pretty easy because most good silver articles found here are stamped or embossed "STERLING". Yep, the ancient Greeks knew how to cut some small change. My smallest is only about 1/1,000th of a troy ounce, 1/96th of a silver drachm. As you can imagine they must have been tough to keep track of so by the 4th century BC fiat bronze coins for the smallest denominations became standard in most places. I have some bronzes that are barely 1/3rd of a gram and assume they represented an even smaller fraction of a drachm than the tiniest silvers. Collecting the extremes is interesting, minuscule silvers and huge coppers are fun to fondle.

250 years ago Platinum was worth less than silver:
>Brownrigg, writing in 1750 (6), states that “the Spaniards have a way of melting it down either alone or by means of some flux; and cast it into sword-hilts … and other utensils; … A gentleman of Jamaica bought five pounds of Patinum at Carthagena for less than its weight of silver and it was formerly sold for a much lower price”.

That's a silver 1/4 real from Guatemala, they made them for years and also issued a design with a Lion Rampant which is cooler looking IMO. Several South American countries issued tiny 1/4 reals, Peru made one with a Llama which is pretty damn sweet.

You might have more Mexican and South American silver floating around in Texas so pay attention to "925" marks in addition to the "STERLING" marks mandated on USA-made silver flatware/hollow-ware. Jewelry is more variable so you'll see both marks more or less interchangeably. Look at some pics online of the stamps on real items, pay attention to where the marks are usually located and commit them to memory. Good luck hunting, be sure to post any juicy scores!

I dont like premiums on sovereigns, especially overpriced coins like american sovereigns.

Add my 2% CC and 1% cashback with sites like dollardig im buying @ below spot.If I sell im sure most shops would buy @ spot (or slightly below) so im not out any premiums. Couldnt say the same for sovereigns.

whatever you do, don't get a purely electronic keypad lock. at the very least, get a fully mechanical lock with no electronics. At best, get a hybrid, so you can spin the mechanical dial and open it irrespective of the keypad not working.

the salesman will try to talk you out of it, citing lifetime warranty. then when it breaks, you're locked out, waiting for weeks for the tech to come and fix it, unable to access passport, pms, guns, jav porn, etc

Yeah, it's been just a month or two and I'm still wrapping my head around it. Very close to buying, just trying to figure out what my uses for PMs will most likely be.
Assuming they come into play in my lifetime, is it more likely to be a situation where I want as many ounces as possible or should I get less in the form of coins? I figure I should do my research on my Province while I have at least some time.
Just the other day I listened to a video from a stacker in the US who recalls a time when LCS weren't taking rounds, although, this person isn't saying only buy coins but just proposed that such a situation can happen again.
Ultimately no different from me considering just which emergency supplies I go for, which PMs are in their own way.

I say as beginner advice, just buy some modern highly recognizable coins like maples or britannias, hold onto them for a while and see how you feel. Eagle premiums suck, but you CAN get some of them back while selling. Boomers also lose their shit with them, have at least a coupe you're willing to part with. But don't spend more than $150 your first time. Seriously. Maybe wait even two-three weeks before your next purchase, give yourself enough time to forget about your first buy. Personally, I've been buying silver with no real changes for over two years now and don't regret my purchases at all. I Just keep buying.

If you buy collector shit like proofs or limited mintage item, buy it entirely to tickle your own personal coin autism and nothing else, unless you're really good at scalping and lack inhibition/a soul. Think I've got 20 silver proof sets now but that's because I personally like them, not at all speculating for value. It still has the base PM content for value, but that's it. If the coin collecting market dies like stamp collecting did, that premium is long gone.

See if you're happy with silver in what I call "The most boring case scenario". It doesn't moon, the dollar doesn't crash, there's no cannibal raiders or glowies desperately hunting people down for silver. You just hold it, own it, and it keep its value over the years. Myself, I'm content with PMs in that case. I bought them for their value, and it's only been building wealth. Every ounce is money crystalized whereas fiat feels so fleeting. Not-so easily come, but very easily goes. In that MBSC either it'll be a means of emergency funds, or my favorite grandkid/anime body pillow is going to be really happy when I die. I can accept that.

It's made my spending and health habits better too, gold/silver fever is a real thing. That vidya I don't need? Pass, that's two ounces of silver. Fast food? No, would come out to what the pawn shop sells two silver quarters for, I'll eat at home.

My copypasta for beginning buyers lists options to consider in deciding what to get.
- When a new series of artful or themed bullion (especially coins) is issued, the first of the series are usually missed by later collectors. They will later pay high premiums to fill in the series. But consider the series' potential popularity: generic and/or cringeworthy series are less likely to appreciate much.
- Low-mintage series are often priced very high, but may in time increase in value the most.
- Gov't-issued coins cost least while minted. Once the mintage stops and dealers run out of stock, the prices jump then rise more slowly but still faster than generic silver. Maples, Eagles, Wieners, Britannias, etc. are all nice but boring. The mint may add a privy to add novelty thereby ginning up the price. Stuff that changes overall designs from year to year become series (Somali elephants, Canadian Wildlife, Australian kookaburras or koalas, island nations' series, etc.).
- If you buy pieces that appeal to your sense of art, taste, and interests, you will still appreciate them even if the price or value of the PM goes nowhere. Caveat: if you go to sell, it's harder to part with them.
- Some beautiful generics are priced comically high (Germanias, GSM special editions, e.g.) - they don't follow the market trends as readily, garnering peak price only while fashionable. Be aware: dealers may categorize and price these as "generic" (meaning below spot) when buying them from you. Or the gamble might pay off as they become very popular (Englehard, PAMP, antique miners/refiners, e.g.).
- For new generic bars, watch the markups over spot: premiums (added charges) go up for smaller pieces.
- Shipping is an added premium. Many online vendors offer free shipping for purchasing a minimum amount (commonly $200). Factor that your local coin shop has no shipping to charge.
- Keep a spreadsheet of your purchases to track profit/loss: it's quite revealing and may help guide future decisions.

The funny thing about your FUD is that you don't have any convincing argument why stackers are wrong. The reason is because you would have to defend a pyramid scheme, which as everyone knows is a fucking scam. I've been hearing over the past few days about governments trying to get old people back into work. You don't do that if your economy is going just fine. There are only two things needed for a western financial collapse:

1. BRICS financially splits the world in two, with the west being the debt ridden competition. Every nation around the world doesn't need its IMF credit score to enter, it's a clean slate for everyone meaning they can dump their US dollars as their world reserve currency with no repercussions.

2. This will have the effect of US dollar hyperinflation, causing the masses to drop their fiat for real assets leading the United States with a financial sector as worthless as the Venezuela Bolivar.

This isn't a question of if but when because the Fed is never going to give up it debt based economy.

>I've been hearing over the past few days about governments trying to get old people back into work
It's hilarious how broke the system is. Here in Francistan, they are voting 1 year of extra work before retirement.. each year since 2019 kek. Went from 61 to 64yo, and they already are speaking about 65 for 2024.
We are witnessing a boomer vs genX political battle to death where current boomers would do anything to delay the genX their access to retirement pensions just to save their own ass, while genX are trying to speedrun their access to retirement because otherwise they know they will never see a fucking dime of all the cash they sank financing the pension system (like 25% of their income each month) for decades.

Everybody knows the government is utterly broke, all the money is gone already. That's the definition of ponzis. Yet, most wagies are too enraged and disgusted at the idea they contributed so much to a system they will never profit from to entertain the idea it's all gone. And i feel for them. What's extra depressing is no GenX here saved a penny for their retirement, they only are counting on the money the government owe them. Ofc the situation is even shittier for millenials, but at least most of them accepted the fact they will never have a pension, no matter if 25% of their income get stolen each month for this mirage.

And on top of getting racketeered, lets pretend the system worked and you are a zoomer, you have to factor in that the money you contribute now will be given back to you 40 years later.
When real inflation is hovering around 15% per annum, imagine the absolute state of your pension few decades later. Your promised 1000€/mo will barely buy you a baguette by then.
What a ridiculous scam.

Only the first ones allowed to spend the freshly printed money get to profit from the current financial (((system))). The masses are stuck holding the bags.

>How are you actually meant to make money from precious metals?

I've always approached the acquisitive facets of life with the understanding that if someone is making a living selling it, then not only are they clearly buying low and selling high but it is also possible for me to do the same. Professionals won't reveal their sources but if you have half a brain you can figure out where and how they obtain inventory on your own and emulate the strategy. Coin dealers obviously get inventory cheap enough to make worthwhile profits from selling at retail, same with bullion dealers and every other business.

If you want a good deal on a car you don't buy from a dealership, you go to the bulk car auctions dealers attend to obtain their inventory and buy one there, or at an estate liquidation sale. If you want a deal on a house then select a quality foreclosure instead of buying through a Jew realtor. If you want deals on numismatics you advertise that you buy collections just like dealers do, or attend sales or auctions where your honed instincts suggest cheapies are likely to be had. If you want cheap bullion you can also advertise that you buy stacks, or develop a relationship with a PM refinery then collect cheap scrap gold and silver for processing. Developing a strategy and tapping into the source allows one to make good money from anything, whereas buying at retail from professionals like a dimwit consoomer pleb (you) only makes money for the dealer. There's nothing wrong with paying premiums and stacking retail bullion or numismatics if you're playing a long-game and don't have the time or proficiency to figure out how to get deals, but if you're just looking for a quick flip you'll probably lose money and absolutely deserve it too. Most stackers enjoy memeing about moonshots but the primary motivation is long-term protection against currency devaluation or monetary system failure and to have hard liquid assets outside a fickle system.

At 2/3rds of melt value that's probably the most you've paid for scrap in a long time, funny how your "worst" deal is still at a better price than most people have gotten silver for in nearly 3 years. That rattle looks a bit beat up but if you come across nice ones they can be good flips, I think people collect them.
