it's one of the largest salt deposits found in north america. going to be the second largest producer after the one in ontario, will probably run for 30+ years. very high quality, very easy to mine, two clicks from a deepwater port. value is kinda hazy right now for a lot of reasons. the owners really just want to sell it off to someone else. shorters shaking out the riffraff. hard to say just how much salt is worth these days

for me, the size, quality, and projected lifespan of the mine make this an easy buy for me, even at current price. dyodd

None of us really knows if there is a market for the salt. We still have existing salt mines with long lifespans, so the risk of it seems to be that the only one willing to buy is an existing salt producer (compass). If we had someone with inside knowledge on the salt industry then maybe we could ascertain if one of the producers is liable to buy it out in a hurry, but as is we can really only go by Rowland's claims of a bidding war, multiple suitors, strategic investments, etc...

>Where do you see it going in the next year?
If Salt hasn't been bought out by 2024 I'd consider it more or less a bust. At that point it'll be clear that the few buyers are fine waiting it out, and even though Atlas plans to advance the project themselves there's really no telling if they'll succeed.

That's my honest assessment as someone who really only jumped in for a swing play and regrets it.

The logistics alone should, all other things being equal, be enough of a factor to be significantly impactful to their ability to provide an fairly inelastic consumable resource for a very competitive price point. Another anon asked about overland options via rail bridge from newfoundland but I have yet to explore that. Not that anyone else should do this, but I consider logistics to carry the same weight as jurisdiction when it comes to mining in any way, manner, shape, form, or fashion.
What good is an unregulated wild west if you can't get a road, airstrip, sea port, or whatever to the mine?
What good is a brand new road, airstrip or seaport if you can't get a permit to operate the mine?
This is why I even bought salt in the first place. Comparatively, they should be able to elbow their way to the table, should they have the intent to produce. Maybe just poise to take a seat only to bluff another player to buy you out so you don't compete.
I wouldn't be sending my people to conferences and running up tabs, I'd start hiring outside firms to assess barriers to entry, maybe even employ a couple of hired guns to make waves in the right direction. Nothings as unnerving as fearlessness

>Someone give me a quick rundown on SALT
There is literally salt everywhere. The ocean consists of 3.5% salt and you can literally just let the water evaporate in a large basin and you have free salt. Don't buy.

On surface it obv seems like a good opportunity, which is why retail is all over this name. But noone can explain why Compass didn't just buy Atlas when they were trading at 5c, they had the deposit back then too. Could have just offered 10 or 15c, and gotten it practically for free. Why didn't they? what changed since then making it worth orders of magnitude more today? and please, don't tell me they didn't know about a huge salt deposit close by.
The answer probably is that this will most likely be a low margin operation that will take a very long time to pay back. Seaborn salt competes with African and Chilean product, where salaries are a fraction of what they are in Canada. Maybe they can make a decent profit at current market prices, but what happens when they dump a huge amount of additional salt into the market? what are the margins of other suppliers? noone has any idea, perhaps they can afford to lower asking price.
It's over for the saltbros... fortunately some may still be in at a profit, time to bank that and move on imo. This could of course still end up paying off, I'm not expert on the salt sector either. But it's a huge gamble, might as well invest in gold.

This is another of the worrisome notes. There was no hold period and salt picked up more than 2 million shorts in the 2 week reporting period prior to the financing. Doesn't account for the full 5 million shares but we still have the next reporting period. Needless to say if millions of shares end up covering without moving the SP up then we'll know we got screwed. Unfortunately all this short reporting is done with sizable delays so retail loses.

My point with amazon is most companies work to lose money and borrow from private lenders to float along avoiding taxes and growing huge.

Or so I believe. I'm curious why you believe this doesn't happen in mining. Particularly since you guys are constantly giving money to fund companies that lose money.

As i said - i think that is not a viable business model as companies should make profit to expand, raise wages of their employees, pay the shareholders, etc. Borrowing money is possible as long as there is money to borrow. With rising interest rates money just became more valuable and people will start looking where their money flows.

Well lets stay in mining. Building a copper mine is a risky, risky business. It takes ages to develop that. Watch eb tuckers latest interview where he discusses the absurdity of futures pricing for my stance in the issue.

We don't have an avocados futures market for the price of avocados. The supply of avocados fall and the avocado price rises. This is a normal market. This same thing is happening with commodities and the futures markets sre causing distortions. When you research how little supply is actually kept on the exchanges you can see that something will break, like what happened with nickel last year. You come in here assuming a lot of things. I'd suggest to stick around.

From the article
>Moving frac sand from mines to transload facilities near oil and gas plays is the most significant expense of production and accounts for upwards of 75% of the final cost for some producers, or about $70 to $90 per ton shipped. Mines that lack direct access to a railroad spur are forced to truck the sand to rail yards where it can be loaded onto railcars, so it is advantageous for frac sand mines to have a railroad spur on site to keep costs down.

>nobody can lack pattern recognition THIS hard,
TA is often described as faulty pattern recognition, i.e. apophenia. A common problem among schizos where they see patterns that aren't there or don't matter.

But even if TA is no better than throwing darts at a board or letting your goldfish pick your stocks, it's also no worse. It's as good or bad a method as any to pick stocks and try to time the market.

>> No.53571838

>>53571685
The anon mentions the actual problem with TA,
It's reliant on the Monte Carlo fallacy.
Specifically, future price movement has nothing to do with past price movement.

the only reason this MIGHT work is if other investors are also using the Monte Carlo fallacy to invest, and thus affecting markets.
But I suspect most of the trading volume is being produced by computers, which presumably are not programmed to invest based on the Monte Carlo fallacy, so there's no real reason to expect TA to work. It's basically just astrology for stocks. If it actually worked, everyone would get rich using it and poor people wouldn't exist.

The mistake the anon made was assuming that economics exist apriori. This would mean markets are rational and amenable to rules of prediction.

this of course is also false. The reason TA doesn't work and simply believing in austrian economics doesn't allow you to forecast markets is that price movements are basically brownian without even the benefits of ergodic limits.

very simply, if either of you were right, investing wouldn't exist because the price of the item could be calculated at any point in the future.

the secret to success with TA is not skill
It's simply wealth
if you have enough of a cushion to survive losses, you will eventually see gains. Because in general stocks go up in value over time. So your investments should as well, if you can survive the mistakes you inevitably make.

the statistical point you're missing here is the same one the "dumb" anon brought up.

in fact TA has nothing to do with your gains or losses, so you can get rich with or without it. Of course if you get rich using TA you're going to think it was BECAUSE of TA, but at that point, who cares. Right?

The same is true of /cmmg/'s entire investment thesis. You guys could be completely wrong and still get rich anyways. Because it's a random walk. Nothing you guys are doing improves your odds of success, but nothing you're doing lowers your odds either.

I've literally watched TA predict patterns months into the future to an exact line. I have charts all the time where I plot out a trend and I will save it and go back three months later and it did exactly what I said. I called chainlink at the exact top and still have that chart saved on my computer.

It's kind of like God and the devil. I say the world is run by satanic pedophiles and you say I can't prove the devil exists. Well I can prove that the people that run the world believe that the devil exists.

The reason TA works is because computers and algorithms and mass psychology believes it exists and behave accordingly. Then you take into account things like Bollinger bands, volume related moving averages and rsi and those things add statistical data driven backing thus giving it more predictive success.

You can't sit there and talk shit about something you've never learned or tried. You don't want to believe it works so you justify in your head that it doesn't because you're not open to wccepting new ideas.

Nobody is saying it works 100% of the time. I'd say it works about 80% of the time.

I don't ever want to hear this shit about it being chicken bone reading ever again. I've finally given the argument that this post deserved after years of seeing it pop over and over. I contributed my time to give a solid answer and I'm not going to do it ever again.

At this point if you shit on it it's because you don't know anything about it and don't want to learn. Not that there's anything wrong with that but you can't dismiss something you know nothing about. I literally watch TA get proven every single day.

Found a couple of good ideas theyre moving to like mobile mining. Instead of building a mine they just drive into the desert with everything on rigs and set up camp. Less logistics is the only way to lower the overhead since logistics are the meat and taters of sand mining
Also, I thought take-or-pay contract were in their twilight but some companies still have them as the bulk of their revenue stream. Seems as tho mobile mining and take-or-pay contracts may be poised to play king of the hill as the obligations of the contract arent as valuable as the savings that mobile mining logistics provide, in accordance with each oil plays material demands

I could have instead said percentage of holdings invested.

If you have $1000 to invest and only bet $10 total on TA while holding the remaining $990 as a buffer against loss, you should eventually see positive returns simply because stocks tend to go up.

If you don't have that buffer, you will likely be wiped out by your inevitable losses using TA or any other method of stock picking and timing.

I chose to shorten this by saying "wealth," but what I really mean not investing most of your money.

I think they made a mistake going for a PEA on all that very marginal ore. Now they want to do a bulk sample of the higher grade shoot, but they will only be mining a fraction of this high value ore. Instead they should have gone for a study on a small project mining this high grade ore, as they have toll mills in the area. The fact that people like Ira epstein can trade charts without even knowing what is being traded is proof that ta has merit.

For example, in my post you're replying to. I'm telling this anon that crypto is likely to make another move down based on the fact that we are in a bear market, we are having a bear market rally, nothing fundamentally has changed and the daily chart is bullish while the weekly chart is bearish. >yes, if your pattern recognition pays off over time then you are a god and your point is proven. You've had a couple years now though, I kinda doubt you're a god.
We can see these patterns work in real time and can apply them retroactively with a high enough success rate to mean it simply can't be effectively random.
If I can put a jigsaw puzzle together using patterns faster than randomly mashing pieces together it doesn't make me a god, just makes me not a retard. If succeeding more than 50% of the time at PR makes someone a deity then you have low standards for godhood

There's a huge cost difference between mining open pit and underground. Snowline also have more than 1 g/t and probably low strip ratio and large size so it's an extremely attractive open pit project. The only downside is that it is very far from civilization, not sure how much it is going to cost to build this thing and if they will have to do diesel power. If this project was near a decent sized city, market cap would probably be multiples of what it is now.

the more remote the project, the less likely its going to be built. Look at KSM for example in BCs Golden Triangle. Its taken almost 30 years to get that project off the ground. Snowline's project would need major road access, power infrastructure, and thats going to cost a lot out there. The good thing is that the Yukon government loves these sorts of projects, so it could get all sorts of help.

yes you can fly in some gear, KSM for example built all their camp construction equipment piece by piece by heavy lift helicopter last year. However thats extremely expensive, they only did that as they were stuck with some issues with road construction. You need road access for major mines like this, you cant operate without them. If you know mining, miners will put a road up anything with enough switchbacks. Look up the Grasberg mine in Indonesia for example.

As an Austrian myself, I was skeptical until I started listening to the interviews and reading the schizo postings from our TA posters and saw the patterns myself. I know that at times I have been schizo and experienced things that people would call schizo. I'm definitely not normal and have experienced many things in life that I could write paragraphs and paragraphs about such as my dad dying when I was 25, when I got cheated on and divorced at age 23, when I was in a brain injury hospital for two years, when I was an mma fighter, when I was a bouncer in a college bar and fucked so many girls you dudes couldn't even imagine, to when I was so broke to where I couldn't afford toothpaste to where I had a net worth one a million dollars at age 27 to flying down the highway on a Harley motorcycle at 120 mphs to squatting 400 pounds from being so ugly I asked a girl out on a date once and she said "fuck no" to my face to being attractive and pulling girls with ease to almost dying several times in my life more than I can count. I have lived my life as a loner that nobody cared about and people hated with animosity as an outcast to becoming a local celebrity in my town ( I can't go anywhere without being recognized and approached)

My mind has experienced many things on all extremes of the spectrum. I am not saying i am not crazy. I am just saying I'm mentally healthy. I've experienced all that shit and healed. That's the definition of healthy. Just because you break your arm doesn't mean you're dysfunctional and if anything it means you're stronger because you healed from a broken arm.

We're all here because we don't follow the herd and because we recognize that we have gotten too for beyond the natural order of life. The world's all out of whack. Commodities are resources and some of them are scare. We live in a fake artifical world where things are run on technology and slave labor and bloated infinite magic money budgets.

We're here because we are realistic, think outside the box and think for ourselves.

I'd say that's mentally healthy, not schizo and I'd take a person like that over a thousand normies any day.

They have been valued very low for a long time, I agree that the market isn't perfect, but this project is straightforward and in an optimal location. People know about it, it's just very marginal, that's why it's cheap. But they could have done a smaller high grade project that would have made easy money. Usually you want at least 1Moz to build a mine, but these guys have all the infrastructure and other mills already in place. So they are able to just mine that juicy ore with little startup cost.
Sure it could rocket higher if gold rallied hard, the ounces are there and if the gold price is high enough you can make money. But I don't trust mgmt, they are playing this wrong.
They built I think it is the black fox mine, now owned by mcewen, I don't think they are making any money with it, it's too high cost. Was it ever profitable or the same marginal story like this new deposit?
