That being said, It is also starting to become abundantly clear that bringing up options brings out our resident “regulars” enmasse. It really seems like the options topic scares the absolute shit out of someone. For instance, you could wait until IV is very low on certain contracts and buy a near the money strike that doesn’t expire until January of 2024. first of all, I wouldn't invest in any way you don't understand. If you wanted to continue down this path, I would challenge you to lookup the definition of a call contract. Once you understand that, make sure you understand what strike price means, and what expiration means. Then I would understand what premium means. Once you understood these terms you could move on to a little more complicated topic called Implied volatility, and this is where the heart of options investing lies. Options allow you to magnify your gains if you are correct about a stock's movement in a particular timeframe, and to magnify your losses if you are incorrect. Buying shares and DRSing them is a phenomenal strategy. A revolutionary strategy really, and there is nothing wrong with it. There are other ways to invest in a company you see potential for however. Maybe look up what percentage of DFV's original investment was shares, what percentage was contracts, and what the strikes and expirations were of those contracts. IF it feels overwhelming and convoluted, just keep doing what you are doing, because there is absolutely nothing wrong with your current strategy. Personally, about 85 percent of my GME position is DRSed shares, and the other 15 percent is in LEAPS, which are contracts which don't expire for a very long time.
