Went shopping, got my birthday haul today: A 1998 premier edition silver proof set, 2007 presidential dollars proof set and a 2012 silver proof set from the coin shop, couple of 1964 silver quarters from a pawn shop and Berserk deluxe edition volume 2 from the comic shop, lol.

The 1998 premier edition silver proof set is really cool. Really great deal if your dealer goes off of grey sheet prices for proof sets, it was only $20 for the silver one. Yes, seriously just $20. The actual lens with silver coins is identical to what would be in any other 1998 silver proof set, the difference is it has a metal frame around the lens and is stored in a really nice clasped case instead of the shitty little cardboard box. It's also a BITCH to remove the lens from the metal holder, there's a holder that keeps the frame in place but metal-on-metal means it's very strong. It'd make a great gift for someone's birthyear. Guess they aren't very well known which is what keeps the price low. Me personally, today was the first time I knew about them. I just pointed behind the coin counter at a black box and asked "What's that?"

2007 presidential dollars was a nice one to get since the stupid 2007 set didn't include them. Dealer only charged me $5 for them, so I only paid a $1 premium over the face value, been looking for those four little brass shits all over the place.
2012 hurt a little to buy. It's tied as the most expensive post-Kennedy proof set of any year, costing me a whopping $150. 2020 is also listed for the same price on the gray sheet, but it's climbing up in value fast so if you want to complete the ATB series I advice you get 2020 and 2021 first, they have the makings to really be key dates.
It's a nice set. Grover Cleveland is included twice, since he was the 22nd and 24th president. Nothing is very noteworthy of the regular slab, other than I guess the native american and horse on the Sacagawea dollar are nice. The ATB quarters are where it's at (Review next post)

>>53516408
The five quarters of the 2012 set I review as follows:
>El Yunque
Lovely design that's very fun. It depicts a parrot and a tree frog sitting on some plant life. The sculpt itself is interesting: The center of the coin is filled a twisting vine, which has the highest devices and the most luster. It's what gets your attention first But then the parrot and the frog are seen afterward, is if you "discovered" them. Not very detailed, but pleasant to look at

>Chaco Culture
Decent enough. The brick craters (or whatever they are) catch luster well enough, and are nicely detailed. Just kind of plain overall.

>Acadia
Dull. Just a lighthouse on a cliff. Sounds nice, but what's a let down is most of the design is taken up by the rocky cliff. Even on the proof version there's not enough detail to warrant ROCKS actually taking up no less than 50% of the reverse.

>Denali
A terrible letdown by poor technical skills. I love the IDEA of a Ram standing in front of a field and a mountain. What stinks is the actual strike. The Ram has hardly any contrast from the mountains or the fields. The fields hardly have any contrast from the mountains either. I'm sure this looks fine in the 5ozt format, but for something slightly smaller than an inch it just doesn't work

>Hawaii Volcanoes
The best for last, and the reason you're going to buy this set. Simply put, it's a masterpiece. No matter how you tilt it, you're getting a dazzling brilliance of luster. The mountain portion of the Volcano somehow seems to shine whiter than any of the other quarters. The lava being the negative space of cameo proof fields is just wonderful. What truly impresses is the erupting smoke. Reminiscent of a Holographic sticker, how the coin is tilted changes how much of the smoke cloud is visible. Laying flat, the smoke looks like some distortion. Facing the light, it's a gleaming radiance. It feels alive. (continued)

>>53516694
(dumb meme I just made to add an image) What's truly great is to really sell the effect, the volcano somehow keeps it luster from any angle. Only the smoke changes. It's gorgeous. It's changing, it's dynamic, and it's animated. Holographic stickers could never dream to be so classy, it resembles a gem more than a piece of metal. By far my favorite silver proof quarter, and maybe my favorite silver US coin of the 2010's period. 11/10. I get why people are paying $450+ for the 5ozt version, because now I really want one after seeing the brilliance of the 6.25 gram version. But I don't know if the effect can be conveyed as well without a proof finish, the cameo contrast is what really makes this coin. What's a real shame is we didn't get a reverse proof version of this. That could have been one of the most beautiful silver coins, ever.

Ultimately, you're buying the 2012 set for the Hawaii quarter, and to fill out collection gaps. It's so much more expensive than the other sets I can't recommend it for any other reason. That's exactly what I wanted and exactly what I got. If you don't want it for that reason, you don't want it period. Save your premiums for cheaper proof sets. 2009 is probably the strongest year overall, and at a much lower premium if you want to dip your toes into silver proof autism.

Man, I don't know, it works wonders. You wouldn't think they'd care about coppers but they are just as excited recieving 2 coppers as they are one silver.
One girl I gave it to was a horse girl and liked horses, gave her a horse coin.
One guy took the "copper bitcoin" because he thought it was funny.
They can get really cheap when you buy them in bulk as seconds and people seem to really enjoy them as gifts. I've given away silver too but copper has its place. A lot of people still have a childlike fascination with metal and they'd be happy to receive a 1oz piece of ANY metal made into a coin shape, even a zinc ingot would make them happy.

Everyone is about to learn central banks can create both inflation and deflation how they want, always in their own interest, against the interest of everyone else.
That's why physical silver is important, it's quantity doesn't change significantly over long periods of time, they cannot create the boom and bust cycles they use to steal wealth from you. They brainwash the majority of the population to always be on the wrong side of the trade.

The interest rates are abysmal but the money isn't accesible until the terms end.

Everyone needs to get over this "sky rocketing" price. If the value of PM's sky rockets that means the value of fiat has tanked. Are you really buying gold and silver as a get rich quick scheme? Gold and silver preserves your purchasing power, I am not saying you wont see gains but if gold is all of a sudden valued at 50k and oz and silver is 500 an oz, you likely wont want the fiat unless you absolutely need it to survive.

It really depends on the reason why gold / silver explodes.

Its either going to be the global market taking a shit with the collapse of the US dollar
or lack of silver and gold supply
or both reasons at the same time

Do you really wanna liquidate your precious metals when bread one day costs 1000$ a slice, to the next day 10000$ a slice? You would sit out the hardtimes with your metals, and wait for things to stabilize on a gold standard and buy back into the market when its rock bottom

I don't think it will go full blown mad max, society will keep on keeping on through hard times.

just my assessment

the way i understand it is that people are looking a step beyond that. silverbugs are quick to remind people to not view metals as an alternative to money but money in itself. but currency has been in use for so long that we have no other frame of reference for what the metals are supposed to be able to buy, so of course we have to use dollar values.

after fiat currencies tank they will be replaced by either metals, metal-backed currencies or another fiat currency which won't resemble the current one at all. so when people speculate how many dollars their metal will buy post-collapse, they don't actually intend to trade their metal in for shitty currency but are using the shitty currency as currently valued to understand what their metal will buy when it ultimately happens.

the problem with using this frame of reference is that it inflates with the currency. it will feel very silly to say an oz of gold will get you $50000 when at some point in the future you will probably need 50 trillion dollars to buy one.

If you know and accept that, that is perfect. metals is for building generational wealth and not a get rich quick scheme. I buy for my sons, breaking generational curses that my father and his father before him etc have done fuck all for their heirs. I should not say that entirely, my father has given me everything, but he had nothing of monetary value to give, but with what he has given me in knowledge I am now furthering the generational wealth and am hopefully instilling into my sons the same thing.
I honestly don't know what I would prefer to happen in my lifetime, the crash and burn of fiat would be a wonderful thing to see, or the chance to set my children up as well as I can incase it crashes and burns in their lifetime.
Either way there is much more to it than just metals with the "political" agenda at play. It is amazing how many people who still do not realize their country is a corporation

But again this isn't just about metals. Too many people are one note ponies in everything they do. You don't have to be "doomsday prepper" and stack shitpaper and beans n deans. But having minimum 6 months of food in the house should be something anyone and everyone should do. Buying land, growing/raising non gmo food, investing in yourself with tools and trades. Building a network of like minded individuals who are doing the same things, homeschooling your children instead of sending them to the meat grinder government brainwashing facilities. There is so much you can and should do.

Speaking as a person who has been in a real SHTF government collapsing type situation (albeit in a developing nation), I will tell you that the "peaceful" transition will be your experience for 99% of the scenario. Even if there are mobs of people going around setting fires and throwing homemade explosives at tanks, as long as you personally aren't getting into these situations, you're likely going to be fine.

Society exists the way it does for a reason: we gravitate to order. The truth is we, as a species, prefer to not spend the entire afternoon murdering each other for a loaf of bread. What you are most likely to see is that the bulk of the anger and energy will be directed toward whatever people perceive as the source of the problem (eg. probably not you, you're just some fucking guy). Meanwhile, on the "ground level" of day to day business---buying groceries, paying rent, going to school, visiting grandma---all of that will be fundamentally the same. Maybe 2-3% of the population will be acting like assholes, mostly directing violence at themselves, while "normal" people will be focusing on just maintaining a regular existence because that's their only frame of reference.

>Ukrainian Etsy sellers are still operating right now
>Coca-Cola and McDonald's have operated in active war zones multiple times
>Carlsberg, the beer company, continued operating a brewery during the siege of Sarajevo
>Toyota was running a factory in Saigon during the Vietnam war
There are a lot of examples of things like this: everything is FUBAR but people keep the lights on because it's how we're wired to behave. Don't even have that big of a yard but it is surprising how much food you can actually grow. Built a chicken coop, have backyard chickens, built garden boxes, built a greenhouse, planted fruit trees. And you just keep at it. Not just that though, I was planning on sending my oldest to school, he was about to start kindergarten in 2020, but then the schools said mask up to be there and even went as far to say I could not enter the school because I am not vaxxed, so I homeschooled him over a mask. Just wanted to let you guys know I am very grateful to you. I can't go into specifics but collecting precious metals has taught me how to save money properly. Not just 10% of my income but even upwards to 80% of my total income is now being allocated for long term savings. It all started with these threads which got me into economics, long term investing and of course flipping metals for profit. There was a time when I was frugally spreading my last bit of peanut butter on my last slice of white bread in tears because I didn't know what else to do in life to improve my circumstances. It took me several years but now I am in a stable job and am going to school. Started eating right, lifting and training in martial arts. I went from not even being able to do basic math to finishing calculus ad trigonometry and I mean I couldn't even understand what a variable was. It all started from collecting fractional poorfag silver. If I could turn my tubby ass into the man I am now then surely any other person can become more too. Something David Goggins said was "you don't have to be dumb or fat forever. It's not like your life is static and you can fix that shit". Anyway thanks you guys

It's amazing how much needless consumer garbage you can avoid when the "money" would be better spent on shinies. I had to seriously debate buying a book volume I've spent over a month looking for because it COULD HAVE been another ounce of silver. Maybe that's one reason (((they))) hate it so much, less cash spent on corn syrup and toys to fuel their system.

I have about 5 gold rings, got them all around spot by scanning offerup, fb marketplace and other local buy/sell groups. Any jewelry store or online site is gonna charge a crazy premium. Pawn shops can sometimes give you good deals, but they mostly deal with a public that's entirely unfamiliar with PM pricing so won't appreciate you talking about "price per gram". It could be worth it if you're looking for something very specific, but if you just want some cool gold rings then just prowl local buy/sell. I've traded firearms, electronics, vidya consoles and musical instruments for thousands of dollars of PM's. It just takes a lot of time, and reaching out to people without being afraid of rejection.

You can actually find a lot of jewelry on eBay from melt to 10% premium if you aren't picky about size or style

obviously testing it is an issue, but 99% of what I bought I could work out it was legit by looking at the karat/weight and knowing from experience if it was realistic

You can. Easiest way would be to buy a gold acid test kit off amazon. They're pretty cheap and idiot proof. I don't have one, this is what I usually do.
1. I try to verify the reputability of the seller. I now have a good few sellers that I have relationships with, so it's not as necessary for me. But look at the age of their account, if the have reviews, what types of items they have posted etc. You can usually sniff out tweakers relatively easy from that first step, but I've gotten scammed twice before so it's better to be safe than sorry.
2. Familiarize yourself with hallmarks, and basic jewelry identification. Understand what the difference between 10k, 14k, and 18k is, how to identify gf (gold filled) gp (gold plated) and hallow jewelry. Then familiarize yourself with "gas station gold". This is the cheap fake shit that you can find almost anywhere in the country. Usually marked 18k, it has a brass-y color, and is usually halmarked on the underside of the ring. They'll often be really chunky and gaudy. Look up some google images of 'gas station gold jewelry' and you'll see a bunch of examples.
3. Call around to local pawn shops and jewelry stores/coin dealers. You'll eventually find someone with a sigma analytics metal tester that may be willing to let you test it there. In addition to verifying the gold, you can avoid wasting time with a tweaker if they know you're meeting at a place that will test it.
If you can't get an acid test kit, and don't have access to a pawn shop that will test, bring a jewelers loupe and a neodymium magnet. The magnet is a way to rule out cheap fakes, and the loupe can be used to view small hallmarks. Sometimes the hallmark is not easily visible to the naked eye, and even if you can make out '14k', you have to ensure there's not a 'gf' or 'gp' after it.
Youtube will be your best friend for research. It's pretty fun to hunt, like post industrial gold panning

but it's highly unlikely that you'll get rich of it. Multi-gram pans can apparently happen, if you're at a good spot, as can multi-Oz days if you add a sluice or highbanker, but from What I'm seeing, pic related (it's two times the same gold, just trying different lenses) is already considered quite good!
And I don't know how much it is, but I know it's almost nothing…
It's a bit like playing the lottery: Your chances of winning (said multi-gram/Oz pans/days above) are much higher than winning the lottery (but still in no way guaranteed) but your price "money" is much lower.
Hell, I'm happy if I get my gas money back! But mostly, I just bike 5 minutes to my usual spot, less time wasted travelling and no gas to spend.

My Jewish intuition was right and the seller agreed to my lowball offer, just bought this 40 piece midcentury sterling silver flatware set for $212 total. I expect a melt value around $1,000 but will update upon arrival. Feels really fucking good bros, scrap-pill FTW.

A few days ago an old friend messaged me for advice about a stash of constitutional silver he lucked upon, final tally is 700 quarters, 128 halves and 580 dimes. Pretty amazing treasure score, he wasn't a stacker or collector before but spent 2 months studying the coins under magnification for errors and rarities and learned a shitload in the process. He says he may need to sell a little to cover bills but is hustling at work to try to avoid selling, worst case he'll keep at least 2/3rds including all the Mercs and Walkers because he now understands the value and appeal of precious metals. I periodically talked about coins with him and his older brother who started collecting uncirculated Morgans a while ago after lots of exposure and encouragement from me, makes me very happy that he now understands too and has a 200oz instastack so won't get totally screwed when the dollar dies. He knows it was likely a once in a lifetime find and doesn't intend to squander it. My vicarious happiness is off the charts knowing he's GMI.

Start your own or go to work for house cleanout or "got junk" trash removal company? My brother's girlfriend works under her dad who is a maintenance/property manager for an apartment rental company with something like 1,200 units, with so many to manage they frequently have to empty out apartments where the renter stopped paying rent and disappeared, went to prison or died and they get to keep whatever they want. Bro's girlfriend has found several nice handguns, gold jewelry and silver coins, valuable collectibles, cash, quality gadgets, appliances and electronics and has furnished her place with the best furniture gleaned from those cleanouts. This is all in less than 6 months working for the company, seems pretty fuckin' legit.

I've been friends with the guy since 2005 and from the start exposed him to numismatics, antiques and knowledge of PMs, I'm sure it helped but he had to figure it out on his own. Yeah I got the cheapest 40 centesimos I could find, was only about $11 shipped. I'm an inveterate fondler so don't really want to buy pieces that are too nice to handle. I'd like one of the even bigger 1844 40 centesimos but they're hard to find. I highly recommend the cartwheel 2 pence, very nice production quality and a full 56 grams. You might want to look for ancient Ptolemaic Egypt bronze drachms if you're into bigbois, nice ones can be had for under $200 if you shop around. The earlier ones are ~65g each, very impressive especially considering they're from the 3rd century BC. They made a monster ~90+g octobol (1 and 1/3 drachm) but a nice one will set you back over a grand.

They didn't mention sterling anywhere in the listing and pics of the marks were too blurry to make out, it turned up in one of my efficient proprietary search strings. I recognized the pattern then quickly confirmed that it is good sterling by double-checking the pattern on replacements.com. As you know well from your gold jewelry conquests it pays to have a good eye, it gives you a significant edge over plebs who need everything to be super obvious and all spelled-out for them. No way I'd routinely get cheapie silver if it was all properly advertised as such.

etsy is 6% fees. I've been doing it for a couple of years. My first big winning lottery ticket was the 26g 10k masonic badge that I got for $100 CAD a while back. The same guy sold me a heavy NOS 14k birks watch for around $100 -- can't remember the price. Sold it for $1700.

Now I buy and sell from other bullion dealers, random people, etc. I have a pretty good bank roll now so I can get good lots periodically when they come up. I think once you get to $125,000 bankroll with good cash flow you can start buying bigger lots. The problem for most people is they dont have access to capital. And, if you do you get the steals.

If I take 100 pesos and convert it to USD at a money exchange in a state with tax on PMs, it wouldn't be taxed (im almost certain, I could be wrong)
How is it legal to tax PMs which are government backed coins? I understand rounds and bars as they're technically a commodity, but government backed coins are currency-to-currency and should never be taxed.
