Why Americans talk about salaries BEFORE taxes? What’s the point? All these making 100k per month doesn’t make any sense. I make 4300EUR after taxes and I feel poor reading this bullshit. Please explain.

Because taxes are different from state to state, so it's easier to compare your wealth (worth to society) beforehand

Salary shouldn't even matter. What truly matters is your happiness and connection to the universe.

Americans pay a lot less tax (but they have no infrastructure, child care, social housing or health care)

taxes vary from state to state, county to county. even within the same state or county your taxes can vary depending on your pre-tax deductions (401k, health insurance, HSA savings, etc.), your marriage status, how many kids you have, and how many other deductions you have or may not have.

Still a bit confusing for me, because I don’t even know how much taxes I’m paying, but it makes sense, thanks

In Germany it's progressive.
Roughly, per month

gross = €500 + net / 2

So if you make 5000 per month, you really get 3000.
If you make 3000 per month, you really get 2000.
