Getting a geology education was one of the best things I ever did even though it was incredibly difficult. It gave me a solid background in math, physics, chemistry, biology and several engineering related fields. To me, geology is the ultimate culmination of science. Charles Darwin studied geology, back then they were called "naturalists". It has given me enlightenment which is the true purpose of education. While the job market is meh (It will get a lot better), the enlightenment aspect is incredible and I highly recommend it. I understand things and think about things in ways that people can't understand and I feel it gives me opportunities (like who the fuck thinks about salt for example or sand)

Aside from the financing issues of early 2022 Trillion has been doing well with their programme. Definitely underperformed in terms of SP but then again gas has been getting beat up for months on end. My personal favorite is the GM who claimed he was an army ranger (he did not appear to be) and worked his way up in some worthless analytics bullshit role by befriending senior executives. He eventually made GM level, got put in charge of an extremely complex recent acquisition that was supposed to be a cash cow, and immediately ran it into the fucking ground. A) He pissed off the union by treating employees like shit and B) He figured he'd save some money and make his operation look good on the financial statements by never doing maintenance on the conveyor or anything else. So the fucking conveyor wound up down for 6 months, they therefore laid off most of the employees and blamed it on the union being difficult, and by the time they were ready to restart they started checking the rest of the equipment and found out they only had 33% of their production ready, and that while the mine was sitting empty a bunch of shit had collapsed which necessitated a whole fucking geotech study before it could be fixed and the mine could be put back into service two years later.
tl;dr don't hire veterans to run mines that all of the qualified PE GMs with Master's degrees refused to touch with a ten foot pole

Analysts only think 12 months in advance, so if you're looking at an acquisition and the commodity goes up in value 2x while you're doing DD you'll still probably buy it because whoever decided it was a good idea to buy doesn't want to look like a dumbass, and if they don't buy it while prices are going up then analysts will ask annoying questions on earnings calls about how you're continuing to grow.
You can change a couple cells in an excel spreadsheet and completely change the economics of a project, and unless you have the right people asking the right questions most of your assumptions and forecasts are probably fucked anyways.
I've been a mine planner. All that matters is having defensible assumptions. In reality, you're lucky if you can get within 10% of tomorrow's production and 30% of next week's. Over the year you're probably within 10-20%, but that's only because GMs will spend more/less money to hit their planned targets as the year goes on.
I'd literally just make up numbers and use averages for the numbers more than a month or two out, and those numbers went to finance and eventually to our financial reports to investors.
