What are the main pros and cons of WFH remote jobs? Are they really better than office jobs?

>> No.53508506

Mixture of both is probably best.

Maybe go in office Tues/Wed/Thur, and WFH Monday and Friday

Pros
>no commute
>immune to office politics
>save money on food
>be with family

Cons
>more vulnerable to layoffs
>less opportunity to learn from others
>distractions like drugs and maaturbation may hinder productivity
>be with family

Tfw department is only 3 people and my department turns over the most money in the business so not getting laid off anytime soon and WFH

good summary. my last job was remote for 2 years before going hybrid clown world shit at the end of covid. switched jobs, fully remote for the past ~1.5 years. if i never step foot into another office again, it'll be too soon.
>i will NOT commute 1 hour a day to the wage cage
>i will NOT listen to your gay stories about your kids
>i will NOT participate in team building exercises
>i will NOT shuffle into a cramped shitty meeting room
>i will NOT refrain from using the word nigger between the hours of 9 AM and 5 PM

I think this is one of the bigger cons, or rather "less likely to get promoted." I don't know if there is any data on it yet, or any data I'd trust rather, but my office has some WFH and some mixed and some mostly office, and the mostly office crowd is really moving up fast. I think it's so important to be networking and having time with your boss. It's important to stay low key on office politics, but being there now is a huge leg up over the people who only interact over a Zoom video.

Pros
>More sleep
>Don't have to interact with retards
>Don't have to travel
>Can shitpost all day

Cons
>No motivation to do actual work

Who the fuck gets promoted anymore. I just change jobs to get my "promotion". Any promotion they dangle at any job is always slightly more pay for 2x the work or responsibility. I got a promotion at HP that was okay as far as job tasks. Thats the one time in my 30+jobs it wasnt a shit deal.

being promoted internally is retarded, maybe a 10-20% raise and you're expected to hit the ground running from day 1 because you're familiar with the company, its employees, and the systems. meanwhile you get promoted externally for a 20-40% raise and they expect you to be retarded for a solid 6-12 months.

There are almost no cons for the average self-starter. Missing out on the extra "social component"? But then again I basically dreaded having to talk to people I'm not organically friends with. I do plenty of socializing on the weekend and have lots of energy for it since I just wfh the whole week. It's an ideal balance. Never going back if I can help it.

I’ve been promoted 4 times in 5.5 years at my call center. Started at $30k/year in 2017. Now make $115k/year with 2 more weeks of vacation in a more interesting job that builds me towards what I’d next like to do.
Maybe you’re just a shitty worker and that’s why your promotions suck?

This is my biggest issue with WFH, especially if you're getting started in a new position or new industry or whatever.
Optional office time should be the standard.
>Hey Bob, I'm having some problems with this product, could use your expertise. Would you be able to meet at the office around 10:30am tomorrow and help me out? I'll buy you a coffee
>Sorry, gotta take my kid to the dentist
>Ok no problem, would 1:30 work?
>Sure
>Great see you then
I don't mind some face to face chatting as long as it's about something SPECIFIC and not just "Debra from HR wants to come by my office and talk about her kids gymnastics competition" or some shit.

I WFH full-time for the past 4 or so years in software. Honestly, it's ideal for me since I'm reclusive and probably anti-social. I spend most of my time with my girlfriend, dog, and my 2 cats. My gf is not working currently which means she is home basically the entirety of my workday which is fine because she keeps quiet and does her own thing. I consider myself extremely fortunate.

Before fulltime WFH I was doing hybrid for 2-3 days in person. Didn't mind it, met great people and started my career, more or less, since i was in my early 20s (I'm 29 now).

If you don't do well with social isolation and being left to your own devices, you will not like it. Hybrid would be best then or full time in-person, if you're a normie.

If you have a wife and kids, expect constant interruptions. Honestly, I prefer working in an office because I can actually get work done. WFH also means I cant leave work at the office.

What is zoom and screen share?

>> No.53510936

>>53510905
kek this. if you aren't getting good teaching from remote work, it's because your manager is a fucking retard. it's EASIER to learn with screen share and you can oftentimes record training sessions with the built in record feature.
