I understand it's a bet that the price of a crypto will go down, but how exactly do you short?

Do you use the currency itself to make the short or do you use fiat or another currency like USDT?

Also, what happens if you lose the bet and to all the currency/money you put up as collateral? Do you just lose it?

Can you go beyond losing? Like if a bet goes beyond what you put up, can it go negative and you end up owing money?

Also, what are some websites (U.S. residents) to get into shorting crypto?

first of all, you’re going to lose all of your money making bets like this. secondly, it works just like shorting stocks. behind the scenes you borrow the asset and then it gets sold for market price, you then wait and hope that the price goes down. you get liquidated if the price goes up and you owe more than what you put in to make the short. go read understanding options.

Let's take two assets: BTC and USD. Forget that USD is seen as money, it could be anything, like cans of tuna.
When you long BTC, you borrow USD from some lender, purchase BTC with it, and, when the price hopefully goes up, you sell all the BTC and pay the lender his USD back. You keep the difference. If you borrow more USD than you yourself have (let's say you have $1K and you borrow $4K) to buy BTC with, you are said to be levered - losses increase, but also gains.
Shorting longing from the other "end" and is completely symmetrical:
You borrow BTC and sell it immediately (just like the long buys BTC immediately with his borrowed funds), hoping that you can buy it back later at a cheaper price and then give the lender his BTC back. You keep the BTC-difference, though people, in general, just buy back enough BTC to satisfy the BTC-lender, and they pocket the difference in USD, not BTC. But, in principle, shorting is a way of getting more BTC.
Longing USD = shorting BTC
Shorting USD = longing BTC

Also what this guy said. If you have to ask what shorting even is, don't do it. You'll be taken out on a stretcher.

If you think price of token vs stablecoin go down short, if you think price of token vs stablecoin go up long. The more combos you add the less you could lose before the house takes all your money.

You shouldn't short crypto for the simple reason that the exchanges can see your positions and will actively trade against you to wipe you out, sometimes using your own funds to do it.

shorting has many risks, much more than longing.

if you are new to trading please do yourself a favor and only trade spot and never go -1, stay 0 or +1

if u are very fucking poor and have no way to accumulate capital(read: ur in a 3rd world shithole) then i reccomend you get some development skills and either start developing for pay or rugging shitcoins for starting capital

People have already explained in detail how it works. But i want to add that during bullruns, your best choice is still scalping. Let's say you grab a memecoin that is popular with the kids (based, if you will) like VINU, or any other dogcoin. You start investing in the 15 minutes timeframe and you watch out for the ups and downs, you trace a pattern. You then think about how much money you are willing to put in there and how much can you actually risk. You buy, wait for the ups, sell, wait for the next down, buy. Repeat. This, of course, will only amount you a miserable quantity over the course of a couple of hours. Try it a couple of days for significant amount of money. I do this, scalping is the way

>women prefer men who have the same level or higher of education and income
>at best this means that the 36% of young women with college education are pursuing the 24% of men with college education only
>the remaining 64% of women are pursuing the 62% of men who have higher income or status, that being the 24% of men with college education or the ~38% of men working trades (I'm using that as a proxy for good blue collar jobs since not every tradie job is good and not every good blue collar job is a trade)
>if you eliminate any portion of these men for having other undesirable characteristics, such as in terms of physical appearance or other traits women don't like, the numbers get even bleaker

The more you look into it the more bizarre and bleak the future is for women and they're doing it to themselves.

To your question, it's like shorting a stock. You borrow the stock, sell it and hope that the price falls so you can buy it back at a lower price to give back to the person who loaned it to you. It's like that with BTC.

This is stupid, you need more initial to make scalping worthwhile and one wrong call will undo hours of effort.
