Secondly, the purpose of panning isnt to obtain lots of gold, it’s a way to test id you are near a vein. Once you find color in your pan you begin lode mining and dig into the earth and your live becomes really miserable.

I often think of my wages in gold terms and wonder if I would be better off panning.. in other words, given the same amount of time, could I swish up the same value or more in gold? not likely

It would make more sense to just collect pop cans from people's recycling bins and scrap metal and just sell it then to panhandle gold.
