Why not instead of waging just river pan a days worth of work in gold?

Because pounding sand is more profitable than panning for gold you fucking tard.

There’s some people who say panning for gold was never profitable and the previous gold rushes were based on the bankers and merchant class coming into new lands and digging up ancient artifacts and finding caves full of gold items that were melted down to hide our true history
I used to think they were schizo but the evidence looks better for their case every year

Nobody is going to buy a handful of gold gravel. This isn't the late 1800s lol

Every "easy" gold panning deposit has been found and used up. You would have to get exceptionally lucky to find one now.

Lots of stories like that, look up sutters mill, and also the connection between the lost dutchman and the vulture mine.

Secondly, the purpose of panning isnt to obtain lots of gold, it’s a way to test id you are near a vein. Once you find color in your pan you begin lode mining and dig into the earth and your live becomes really miserable.

One other thought, Ive heard that the people who actually made money were the suppliers of food and equipment.

Try standing in ice cold water for a few hours a day - wage slaving is easier.

>> No.53492026

I often think of my wages in gold terms and wonder if I would be better off panning.. in other words, given the same amount of time, could I swish up the same value or more in gold? not likely

>> No.53492081

It would make more sense to just collect pop cans from people's recycling bins and scrap metal and just sell it then to panhandle gold.
