Anybody here have one of these bad boys commemorating the greatest camera trickery ever achieved? I was flipping through the red book and saw it, now I really might want to get the 5ozt silver version. Anon's right. When there are two (or more, as we've had recently) threads going, conversations get broken up and there's a bigger hassle in Ctrl-Fing for topics and posts you recall from before. New threads really shouldn't be made until the current one gets to about page 8. Then we appreciate the new thread. Some exceptions are when the image limit gets reached. Then yeah, a new thread would be good.

The much bigger question is, why are you so slap-happy about making threads? You don't get points, trophies, recognition, fame, respect, or anything of value for creating threads. You're doing it for free, just like... jannies.

>> No.53474621

what's with the whining, when you go to other boards, most generals start a new one before the bump limit so anons can start migrating to the new thread and it's easier to find it, common sense

It's not horrible, but it also kind of depends on *why* you bought it.
As an addition to a stack, $36/ozt isn't really good.
As a last piece required to complete a series, it's a necessary evil.
As a piece you've been tracking and see this is a good price for that 10-year-old (i.e., no longer minted) coin, it's probably great!
As a general rule though, I'd recommend buying coins while they're still being minted - that's when they are most likely to be at their least cost.

They're beautiful in terms of precision and shiny but ugly in that tacky, Mormon, flyover prepper, praise jesus kind of way. Tacky or gaudy, both are good descriptions for goldbacks. Personally, I think the designs are way too busy and I would prefer a more muted yet symbolic design choice. Less is more and that would make goldbacks go further. They are also the worst way to stack gold, beyond memetier. Get them if you are trying to meet a sales tax threshold if it applies to you or just get them to have some but as a curiosity.

My guesses are three things
1: Normalfags don't question authority
2: People were MUCH more loyal and happy with the United states government at the time
3: This is one of the most broken laws in US history, almost every piece of pre-33 gold was someone's hoard they didn't tell the government about. Pretty much the original 80% lowers, if you will.

One of the problems with precious metals is that they track with the market, rather than against the market. That's because when the market goes down, everyone sells their gold/silver to cover their shorts. So it's not actually a very good hedge against market declines.
And over the long term, it drastically underperforms the market. Because the market is actually producing shit, producing goods and factories and jobs, your money is going to work. But with silver your money is sitting inert in some fixed asset.

Also the notion that "gold is money" or "silver is money". If you actually look at the history of money, basically you''ll find that money is whatever the ruling authority says money is. In many historical cases that was silver and gold, but not always. These days silver and gold are just commodities like any other, used in various industrial processes and silicon chips, that is what they are used for.

Although it's wrong to suggest that silver/gold has NEVER been a good investment. During certain inflationary shocks we've seen gold become a very good investment. But these periods never last long. Basically you should buy gold/silver if you think the monetary system is about to legitimately collapse, like in a few weeks or months. Otherwise all the time you're sitting in silver is time wasted.

I ve been having a great conversion with some friends from up at Carmacks Yukon, have a look at some of the course gold they were getting with hydraulic mining. They ended up with around 200ozs last season, and plan to have a team of snipers working behind them this summer, the bedrock their working is very difficult to get a water cannon to work on, so its going to take teams to clear the deep cracks instead.

I am trying to convert a vid they sent me to a gif as well but compression is a bitch.

Bros...

The base premium value of most bullion in my country is marked up crazily, I'm talking 46 USD for ASE's and 36 USD for Britannias. Is it still worth it to stack? Do note that resale value is also high, no one is selling lower than that. We don't have dedicated bullions in my country (Indonesia). I personally bought the Britannia since it's not that far off from the price in the Royal Mint (26 £). But still sucks when I could buy it for way cheaper if I just go to a neighboring country.

"snipers" are guys who go and follow the mining activity, cleaning bedrock cracks or faults, in this case their planning to use a small excavator and a team with a land dredge to clean up the material left behind by the hydraulic mining. The guys working there think they left 50% of their gold behind in bedrock, but couldnt work it with heavy machinery due to how tough the bedrock was.

also fun backstory, the property being mined is the next gulch over from one owned / mined by Freddy Dodge of "Gold Rush" on Discovery Channel. The previous property owner spent 2 million dollars clearing over burden and permafrost from the pay layer, only to go bankrupt the following season. The property was put up for sale by creditors, the new owners only had to bring simple gear in to work the already exposed pay channel for easy money. The exposed channel is only about 1km long though, the rest of the property extends for 5km upstream, and the higher you go the deeper the waste gets, so the gravy train will end soon unfortunately.

I usually carry a shotgun or a rifle when i am on my own in the bush prospecting, rarely though do you see any open carrying on site at a mine in BC. Its rarely needed, even with crime increasing its a general rule of thumb not to try and rob miners as you will likely end up in an unknown hole. Bears arent to big of an issue in my parts, the black bears and grizzlies hear me coming and leave or do their own thing. Things got really heated last summer out in the gold fields, there were a number of shootouts with bandits trying to steal whole mine setups. They got caught by RCMP trying to flee to Alberta. It is a "wild west" sort of lifestyle but no where near what it could be if gold went to $5k an ounce.

it got absolutely bonkers for about two years actually, as the same guy and his crew were stealing anything not nailed down in the Cariboo and Dease Lake regions. These guys were casing camps for weeks, waiting for the occupants to leave for a day. They were stealing trailers, washplants, gen sets, whole minesites on flat decks that were being shipped to a site in Alberta where the machinery would be repainted and new serial numbers given. The equipment was ending up in the Yukon, sold at half price. The whole thing was run by organized crime out of Vancouver and Calgary, and only stopped because miners wised up and caught them in the act with police watching.

I have a sode hustle that makes me sick to my stomach. It earned me immeasurable amounts of precious metals and I feel terrible that I did it but I guess it's in the last now mostly. I used to buy happy meals to give homeless people to share in place of any pre 1965 coins and also any unique couns they found. I took it a step further and gave several homeless a burner phone that I would call them up on to pick up their trash filled with cans, metals, coins and in return I would give them cheap food and sometimes soaps. I made so much money from ripping off the homeless it just sucks and I wish I wasn't so heartless back in the day. Now I only ask them to give me coins but explain their real price to them beforehand.

not really. You paid a premium to convert fiat currency to money which has zero counterparty risk. Maybe that premium was a bit on the high side but what you hold has actual value that can't be inflated away. Over the long term it will be fine.

At this point I'm like buying numismatics for weight, which if you think about it is stupid because my coins doesn't have numismatic value but it has the price of one.

On the bright side it seems to be the market value in my country?? I think I can sell it easy on marketplaces so I'll be fine I guess, I just won't be making profit ANY time soon.

At least shift the topic back to metals. What is your next stack purchase? If I can't find the Apollo coin I posted earlier >>53474567
at any shops I'll probably just load on up silver proof sets to finish my ATB collection. 2012 and 2020 seem to be the most expensive years, might even be able to get both if the places want to get rid of them badly enough.

>you are still poverty tier
This is what I worry about most. As much as I think the dollar will collapse and the East and West will split, America is still enough of a powerhouse economically that we will still be able to pick up and resume albeit after a very rough and rocky collapse. I believe commodities will do EXTREMELY well but you can't expect Weimar or Venezuela tier hyperinflations that will put you into god-king status because you have a few rolls of silver. Obviously the worse things collapse the better off you will be, but if the global economy is able to hum along through negotiations it will do just that.
The point of investing is to trade your way up to higher tiers of wealth by buying high and selling low. Despite not earning a return I really can't see a better investment than silver. And the best way to ride the line here is mining-majors which expose you to PMs and dividend income. I can easily see some of those stocks just doubling/tripling in value without much imagination.
