My guess is that we're going to see a 25bps raise in the FED funds rate at the next meeting. From there on out occasional +25bps for the remainder of this decade.
I expect that we'll be entering the 2030s with a FED funds rate well above 7% while having a heavily inverted and "distorted" yield curve.
Duration - security over time - in low risk bonds will cost you yield from here on out. Short term debt will be the products which yield the most.
Time will now be costly for the lender, not the debtor.
That'll be the new normal.

The notion of rate cuts for the remainder of this decade is ridiculous.

The math here is sort of easy and you can keep it simple. Tesla is the only one making any serious amount of EVs and also a profit on each. No other company (that we hear so much about) in the global market can say that. They are not even able to suggest a date when they might make any serious amount of EVs and a profit. So, it becomes a war of attrition and the question is---how long can the others exist while losing money on each car.

But the FED won't like any of that.
>people can not be laid off from high paying jobs and cycle into open positions in lower paying employment fast enough for wages not to keep on rising
>there will be no unemployment to dampen consumer demand
>inflation will stay and randomly oscillate
>markets will keep on pushing higher INCLUDING commodities and crude, fueling inflation even more
The FED can not do anything besides keep on raising rates.
Yet we are years away from any braking point induced by higher and higher interest rates.

I expect the ATH of the SPX to be re-tested some time this decade, or maybe slightly below.
But at one point the markets will stall due to interest rate pressure and simply crab for years.

You want. And you want them to want what you want.

I agree that the economy can and will handle a FED funds rate of 7% and above pretty well.

By the time this cycle is over a recession will be necessary and even force induced. Then they might lower rates, back to neutral to slightly accommodating.
Thats more than a decade away, though.

At least in my opinion.

Yeah inflation won't start showing up again until the end of the year when last year's level started cooling off. Since it's only based on a one-year scale, inflation will start looking like it's ramping back up in the summer. Besides, that's not the metric the Fed is using to gauge hikes. As long as job creation is hot, the strained rhetoric from the fed will continue. A few big tech giants getting rid of their diversity departments is not going to do it.

It's not the opposite. Inflation looks like it's falling fast because last year it surged really fast around this time. It will appear to fall fast in the winter and spring. So we will experience a surge downward in the spring that will slow as summer comes around. So it will look like inflation might be rearing it's ugly head again. It won't be, but the metric will so the market will continue to be nervous. The Fed will also continue to reinforce this nervousness. If we recovery isn't going to start happening until Q4, or late Q3. It's just going to be a very volatile time until then. So you should be in and out. Not sitting on one position or the other. I just sold today and have gone short. Will likely go long again after Powell next week depending on how much ground is lost up to that point.
