What's the worst job interview process you've ever gone through?

I just got rejected from a job and I'm kinda seething. A recruiter from this company contacted me out of the blue a few weeks ago for a job that actually seemed legit. Had to schedule a phone interview with the recruiter, then go in for an in person interview, then another phone interview, then another in person interview. Four goddamn interviews. Then after the fourth interview they tell me they want to move forward with the hiring process.

"Great" I think to myself. I must have the job in the bag at this point. At this point the recruiter asks me to share some references, so I contact a few people to ask if they'd be willing and send it back over.

A few days later I learn that they called all my references and that they all gave me a great recommendation. Despite that, they decided to give the job to another candidate who had more years of experience in the industry. The recruiter said several times that it was "a really difficult decision for them :("

I was able to stay polite on the phone but god damn, I was fucking pissed. Why the fuck did they make me do four fucking interviews and check my references if they knew the decision was going to be about years of experience? I swear to god I'm this close to throwing a fucking rock through their office window. Any /biz/anons have similar frustrating interview experiences?

>they decided to give the job to another candidate who had more years of experience in the industry
Yea, that's normal and reasonable

>Why did they make me do four fucking interviews if they knew the decision was going to be about years of experience
Because all those HR people and recruiters have to show the upper management that they are needed and not parasites they truly are.

I interviewed for a science position at a startup and everything was great, but then for some reason I had another interview with the software engineering team and they asked me a bunch of retarded algorithm questions.

I flat out told the code monkey that I was a PhD and don't give a fuck about code optimization as that's what software engineers are for. Every other org in the world has scientists prototyping and software engineers implementing.

Didn't get a call back

went through whole process to be a sales engineer, 3 remote interviews, IQ test, web call, flew across the country for in person interviews. Hiring manager said he didn't think I looked like a salesman. All the other applicants were some ivy league jews
