If you live in Australia and make less than half a million a year after tax you are poor. Everything is so fucking expensive here I literally spend 200 AUD just on groceries every fucking day for my family. and my weekly rent for a regular house is fucking 2k a week This country fucking SUCKS

I pay $1800/month for renting a 3 bedroom townhouse. Groceries aren't bad, everyones fat, everyone can afford to drop 20kg.

Australia is an amazing country with amazing people.

I lived there for three years, it was unironically the best decision I ever made, and I want to move back.

The weather is consistently beautiful, and things are 'slower' in the sense that people actually take time for fun, family, mental health.

The one rub is that real estate is indeed a fucking joke. Like, it's insane. But it's heaps better than USA

The ones that have family to fall back on yes they take life easy, you don't see the people falling through the cracks, they are holed up in their rented houses dumping entire paychecks into rent and bills or living off debt. The ones that can't afford rent are homeless, we have a major issue at the moment with no solution.
You come here for a good life if you already have heaps of money, it's very hard to move up from the bottom here.

Do you really think usa property is worse? Aus is like Canada
We had it bad way before covid. Think California but every major city
It costs over $1.5 mil USD for anything decent in a decent suburb in Melbourne. In Sydney your talking $2mil

Shit is beyond disgusting. At least you guys have the Midwest or flyovers, for us everywhere sucks

580/week 3 br townhouse. groceries are a fucking gyp, but you're eating gold leaf if you manage to spend over a grand a week an have less than seven kids.

things are getting a bit ugly, but my impression is it's worse just about everywhere else

the nice suburbs in East Sydney like near beaches etc are probably the best places in the world to live, not even kidding. I have travelled a lot and I think it's as close to heaven as you can get on this planet. Median house prices in that area are $5m but if you can get a cheaper apartment or town house for like $2m, which is not that bad.

LOL no it doesn’t ! 500k usd and you could live 30 minutes from Brisbane cbd

And on either side of Brisbane you have the Sunshine Coast of the Gold Coast, so there’s a lot to do on weekends if you’re not feeling the city
