>>53318142
>the P/E won't be inflated by buybacks
No, instead it'll be inflated by divvy fags who bid it to retarded levels thinking its "safer". The higher it gets, the lower the yield, the "safer" it gets. You're not overpaying, you're getting "safety".
Then on the other side you've got some yield chasers too, bidding up absolute garbage zombie companies with inescapable debt because the dividend looks high.

I don't think you should avoid dividend stocks, but they are objectively irrelevant. They should pretty much be ignored in deciding what companies to invest in. They're only vaguely relevant as a niche factor in some trades, in the sense that you can sometimes frontrun the expected idiocy of other dividend investors.

A dividend isn't free money. A 6% dividend means the company takes assets worth 6% of its market value and pays those assets to its shareholders. The company has fewer assets as a result and the market considers your shares to be less valuable.

That is indeed the case, in that a company is less valuable than a company that's identical except that it has more money (because it pays the CEO less).
The CEO's salary is usually very predictable, so the market prices it in. Paying the CEO exactly as the market predicted therefore has little effect on the stock price.

CRESY did a huge dilution via rights offering a few years ago at $4.70/share
Also offered out a bunch of warrants. Argentina warrants exercisable in Argentine pesos which are rapidly devaluing at their 95% annual inflation rate. US shareholders only got US dollar exercise price. Basically a huge bonus towards Argentine shareholders at the expense of US holders.

Buying back 3% of shares now doesn't really negate that. Also the ADR fees. I still hold CRESY as part of my general Argentina rebound bet, but it's been one of the weaker names.

i am angry. angry about all these chuds crying that a recession is le... bad! after every harvest season, there must be a winter to prune out the weak and withered plants, so that stronger, healthier crops can grow in the future. Rottenness must occasionally be purged out from the system. The natural laws of a business cycle has been distorted to mean a continual upward worth -- this may be true in the long term -- but what is ignored is the occasional, healthy, regular correction. And so there is nothing to fear, as like winter it will too pass, and then there shall be a bountiful harvest once more.

But first must come the necessary destruction that precedes creation.
