>I'm empirically right about the majority of active managers underperforming the market too?
Most aren't trying to. They'd rather play it safe and collect a paycheck. Those that do succeed in outperforming tend to see AUM grow and quickly reach a scale where it becomes impossible to continue.
Many investors don't care anyway - they feel more comfortable earning less as long as they feel its safely taken care of.
Many funds have arbitrary restrictions on what they invest in. For foreign investors, bond funds, or small cap investors, "the market" is not a sensible metric for them to compete against.

I've already said all this. I'm just repeating myself because you seem incapable of fully comprehending.

Poker players lose money on average too, do you think professionals there are just getting lucky their whole lives?
What about insurance - on the whole more money is put into insurance than the average person will ever get out. Insurance firms extract fees while adding, on average, no value for their customers. Do you think that industry shouldn't exist?

You're latching on to irrelevant shit like Nikkei total return vs index price return (both are dogshit btw. Topix is a better index), while completely missing the point that your arbitrary criteria of "the market" is itself just another man made construction. When Buffett and Bogle push passive investing, they're just acknowledging two basic facts: the performance drag of fees, and the law of averages.
The median investor will have median performance, and in a fat tailed distribution this will be below the mean. Add in the negative impact of fees and it gets worse. This doesn't mean it's impossible to win. It doesn't even mean it's hard to win. Most will lose, just as most players at a table of poker will lose. In general, you could certainly say the best advice not to play at all. However, none of this excludes the possibility that those who develop skills and put in effort can (and often will) win.

Not mad and I don't use options, except Puts occasionally to protect profits. I'm not in the business of fortune telling. I buy and hold until the next Bitcoin run up.
Now is the time to be buying miners. Better than owning the actual underlying asset, because it's a leveraged play as these are companies with cash flows, and I can hold them in my tax-free accounts, so all of the gains are mine.

>REEEEEE DIVVIES BAD! GAMBLING LIKE SHITCOIN CASINO GOOD!
I like a good yolo on a memestock or 0dte as much as the next guy but dividend bearing stocks have a place in any portfolio that isn't foodstamps or lambo aggressive. It's just hard explaining that kind of thing to someone that's still in a foodstamps or lambo kinda mindset, the same way most people that get rich in an instant end up blowing it all instead of parking enough in something stable like treasury bonds or a money market account where they can live off a few percentage points of the sum total amount they set aside. Everyone should have a portion of their portfolio that is hyperaggressive, but anyone that actually reaches a make-it level sum of money should be taking steps to ensure a steady income no matter what happens. Dividends are a great way to do that while still having a stock position with a good company, just gotta look out for unrealistic yields from them and keep an eye on the underlying to make sure it'll be enough to meet your goals.

I changed the bootstrap method from fully independent samples (I was also accidentally drawing without replacement) to circular block bootstrap.
Growth rate improved, because that was the objective of my optimization. Sharpe ratio and max drawdown are worse.

Old portfolio:
>34% QQQ, 8% EEM, 35% GLD, 23% SHY
New portfolio:
>54% QQQ, 6% EEM, 4% IWM, 20% VNQ, 13% GLD, 2% TLT
So, a far more aggressive portfolio.

Credit card allow users obtain whatever people want immediately regardless of whether people can actually afford them in the month. Thus it can easily tempt people.
And while credit cards are intended for short term, if everyone repaid fully on time then banks would have earned much less profit and you won't see this much credit card promotion offers.
At least it isn't like my place where the norm of credit card debt interest rate is between 39-45%APR, and lower interest loans available on market for people to move off that still commonly charge 22-27%

The idea described in the book is that for whales who could move the market by themselves, it was sometimes good to waste some money feeling out the market by betting in the wrong direction. So if he wanted to go long, he started selling and watching how easy it was to sell. Rember, this was in the days when your broker physically went to the trading floor and sold shares to others, so there was a considerable delay, differences in execution were very obvious and you never knew exactly how much you'd get. Then if he saw that it was easy to sell, he covered his shorts and went long on the confidence that the move was real with proper volume. These things are not really relevant I think as the market is much quicker and wider now, but if you are a huge whale, maybe it still is. Of course the average biz anon doesn't have anywhere near the money for this to matter.

Multiple people can hold it and resell it to each other for profit or loss on the premium, but the person that initially wrote the contract is on the hook for delivery in the event it's exercised. Not really. Because if you buy calls and they lose 30% of their value in an hour you’re still fucked. Selling calls is much safer but requires a lot of capital for it to be worthwhile. People also sell calls to lower the cost basis of their position. Say I buy 100 shares at a price of $10. I sell a far OTM call for 3 months out that nets me $100 in premium. I re-invest that $100 into the stock and my cost basis is now lower. If the call doesn’t get exercised I keep the premium for free. If it does, I still made money from the premium and the sale of shares as long as the strike price on the call is above what I paid for the shares in the first place.

Questions regarding futures contracts.

Given the massive volume of both puts and calls that are taken out every day, only a fraction of them stay within the money, especially puts, so it is a safe statement to make that all of these fees are simply pocketed by the institutions that sell them to retail investors yes? Just like gambling, the only party that makes money overall seems to be the people selling this product

Mortgages are leveraged anywhere from 10x to like 4x, and i'm looking to do the same with a broad market ETF but I assume that the premium/fee of taking out a highly leveraged call option with an extremely long expiry date (years) would be astronomical. Is there some simplistic information on futures contract pricing out there by chance, since I don't currently have a brokerage account to check?
