Daily reminder that finance and economics are pseudoscientific make believe garbage and capitalism is inherently unstable, exploitative and unsustainable with a built in expiration date. Ever escalating recessions, poverty, debt, wealth inequality, monopolies, disease, pollution, exploitation, slavery, conflict and wars are fundamental, necessary and intended principles of it, NOT glitches. Greed, selfishness, lying, cheating, stealing, competition, conflict, slavery and war are behaviors highly encouraged and incentivized under capitalism. It is LITERALLY cancer and i dont mean it metaphorically, i mean it literally, it shares the exact same functions and principles as a cancer cell.

The freer the market the more enslaved everything and everyone else is and the more blood sacrifices need to be performed to "the Line god". An economy needs to be as regulated and planned as possible to serve the living beings needs and desires and be able to be adjusted according to our needs at any given moment/period. finance and stock markets are incompatible with life and are in direct competition

People buy options with no intention of acquiring a position in the underlying. MMs delta hedge with stock. Gamma squeeze ensues. People sell options before expiration. Market implodes for the remaining people that held on too long.
What few options did get exercised are flipped on Monday decline. Tuesday rebounds and a new month's put sellers arrive to extract some theta.

This has been the monthly cycle for an entire year now. This month has been bigger than usual due to seasonal effects, taxes, etc. That is all. The only way this gets resolved is if they ban retail options trading, but personally I profit off the whole casino so I'd prefer they keep the tables open.

EV drivers don't pay gas taxes. It's probably to make up for that gap. Any time EVs have the appearance of being cheaper or more efficient or more effective than ICE cars in any sense, you should know that hidden subsidies are behind it.

>>53278961
most people are stupid. like, most people in the world. IQ is on a normal distribution, a "bell curve", which means half of the world is double digit IQ. i want you to seriously think about this. im completely 100% serious btw im not joking, i want you to actually research IQ and think about this a lot because it's extremely important for you to understand in general. i can't stress this enough. im not joking i really want you to learn about IQ. here's a taste:

>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-Ur71ZnNVk [Embed]
>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjs2gPa5sD0 [Embed]

really, truly, this is just text but i cannot stress enough: you NEED to know how dumb the average person is. you NEED to know it, understand it fully. you should not go through life not understanding it. if you're actually smart, like myself, it's easy to think everyone is relatively as smart as you. i didn't find out until my 30's how wrong i was. one last time: really, learn about this shit. it's not a joke, most people are idiots.

and they can vote. a vote that is equal to the vote of a smart person.

>> No.53279594

>>53279535
It's not anything malicious like that. Retail holders are buying something inherently worthless (an option) and then the position stays open until it expires worthless.
In the meantime the temporary buying pressure of hedging against that option creates the appearance of a stock price moving higher. Some who are quick can actually exit at the higher price, but in the end on the whole the retail traders tend to lose money because the end result is that all those options get flipped, nothing gets exercised for actual shares, and the whole pump and dump ends right back where it started, with the option premiums extracted by MMs or whoever their counterparty is.

I wouldn't look to bonds to mean much. One year ago 30y was at like sub 2% lol. You think it was priced there because bond holders knew what was gonna happen next?

Major bond holders are just legally mandated bagholders - pension fund managers and insurance companies with their float. Then there's all the boomer 401k holders that still believe 60/40 is a real thing. There's no "smart money" market signal there.

Its why I am still a doubter even though banks showed a mixed picture on friday and CPI seems to have "peaked" and thats the narrative.. Even though the sticky part of CPI is still running up .4-.5 a month and has shown no likelyhood of stopping. While it can be manipulated energy prices have essentially stabilized and used autos are slaughtered back etc. Outside of a recession they shouldn't dive too much much more.

Still not bullish but mostly waiting on the sidelines and just buying lottery tickets to gamble while I work out this house and car. Once I have the mortgage paying it off faster is essentially investing in super treasuries to deal with 6.5% apr.
>>53281091
Yeah no doubt and while they can appreciate real yields the fed is dumping stinky bags onto the market each month. Banks are still suggesting recession soon but labour market hasn't even given anything up. Workers were doing the needful though not demanding pay increases but that should change here soon due to the sticky parts of CPI hitting the poors bottom line.

This is true.
Buybacks for longterm investors, dividends for short term investors. You can hold something for just 2 months, and get a fat qualified divvy, then sell the remaining position for breakeven or perhaps even a short term loss. Negates your other trading gains on the year.
Dividends are incredibly tax efficient for swing traders.

Great. Get ready for a recession in 2024 once the China devs release Pandemic 2: the Sequel.
If you completely disregard timing and causation, then sure, go ahead and pray that your magic correlation will continue to hold valid in a world where QE and stimulus checks have completely changed the interest rate paradigm.

Two months ago, I was seeing a lot of charts posted around the net showing how perfectly this bear market was lining up with 2008, 1929, and other major crashes. Then this month happened, and suddenly they've all disappeared. Humans are trained to look for patterns, but in the absence of understanding logic that drives the correlation there is no meaning. It's just useless data.
Try using your brain. Think.

Besides, as another anon >>53281196 mentioned, we already got our recession 6 months ago. We've already seen the layoffs. It wasn't a big deal. There's no depression. Inflation is walking back in.
Personally, I think we'll see a resurgence of oil/energy price inflation into the summer. Housing may crash, and stocks could decline again. There'll probably be another silent recession that our government refuses to officially confirm. But it won't be because of this magic inverted rate trend. The problem with that correlation is that it ignores inflation. Real rates are negative right now. Real rates are theoretically positive in the future. Adjust for inflation expectations and there is no inverted curve. The curve is showing off a soft landing. Realistically though, it's just showing off the Feds own yield curve control. QT and QE have ruined the meaning of the rate curve.
In the end, nothing really matters because even if things do start to appear negative, the moment things truly get bad enough to cause lasting damage, the helicopter money will arrive to bail out the whole world. The entire concept of risk has been ruined. The only legitimate risk left is the value of the US dollar. Embrace that.

But that's the thing, they literally can't do that again, most of the criticism of the Fed's handling of the GFC is the insane moral hazard it created and 20-21 proved it. Even with "da deadliestie pandemic evar" for cover, QE and ZIRP still caused a violent melt-up, if they try it again the melt-up will be currency destroying, never forget that the oligarchy holds position via soft power wielded primarily through the financialization of the world economy, they can't risk the system, they are the system, another round of QE/ZIRP will destroy the system

I think it is very interesting that the expected time frame for how long the "extraordinary measures" will last has already been downgraded from "September D-Day" to "maybe we can hold it off until June." I wonder if these three months that got shaved off are related to the absence of the Fed's remittance to the Treasury now that the Fed is no longer able to send its profits to the Treasury. I suppose however long before September it ends up running out will characterize exactly how bad things really are. I will be very glad to hear about it if unprecedented budgetary shortfalls in the Treasury force the issue even earlier than June.

>The Federal Reserve announced on Friday that it sent $76 billion in profits to the US Treasury last year, though those transfers stopped in September when its income turned negative and the Fed started accumulating a massive, multi-billion loss which totaled $18.8 billion by the end of the year

But earning is coming, Big tech earnings will likely be the leading directional indicator , MSFT kicks it off on 24th, TSLA on the 25th, AAPL AMZN GOOG on 02/02. the highest weighted companies in the indices will move the broader market

$7 trillion of stimmies forced TINA, driving SPY to extreme bubble territory (38 PE). Smart money knew from the first hike there was going to be much more pain and the fun was over. despite the fed saying "transitory" and doing a pity 25 hike those who understood how inflation works (I did not) knew it was over.
So the first crash was not from earnings dropping unexpectedly, that didn't happen for most stocks.

However as more people lose their jobs, and money continues to tighten earnings should fall this year. I would expect, at least as more money goes to interest payments, even for those who locked in "low" rates on homes that doubled in price over a short time.

True normies barely think about the market whatsoever. Think back to before you ever invested and realize that's the average normie. They aren't talking about the market at all.

Normie investors on the other hand are bogle baggies. They just dump their money in, watch it go -30% and tell themselves "I'm in it for the long run!!!!!". Those normies are pretty comfy right now and truly think the worst of the market is behind us, and that line will only go up from here.

The true normies are the harbingers of truth. When the market is neon green and those types start talking about "finally time to get in the market!", you know it's time to sell, and when it's blood red and they say stuff like "wow, sure glad I'm not in the market what a scam!!", you know it's time to buy

Dividend's are not the tax boogieman everyone makes it out to be. Most people here, the only way such a thing would even start to actually make your tax burden more is if you were pulling down a shat load of dividend's a year. Honestly read the tax stuff your broker puts out. A lot of cases you end up owing nothing to the govt when it pertains to your brokerage account. However you do end up getting a tax break if you've got actual losses the previous year (1500 single or 3000 married). So rather than burden you the brokerage account can actually make your tax owed less. Ex: I'm married. So for 2022 tax year our combined income must exceed 80,000 before taxes start to "go up". Uh yeah that isn't happening to put it simply. (Note 401k income is whatever your RMD is for the year so yeah just cause its got 2 million in it don't mean you'll get taxed on that whole 2 million, rather just whatever the RMD amount for the year was)

Berkshire abuse the FUCK out of the tax code to never realize capital gains. That's stewardship. Giving dividends proves a company is low IQ and uninvestable. If they can't pass the braindead test to avoid unnecessary taxes why invest innthem with your money

While I mostly agree with the "dividends are irrelevant" idea... the larger a company is, the fewer people who could hypothetically realize the "true" value by taking the company private. For mega-caps, there are only a handful of people on earth who could outright buy them, so the "bid" could be way below a "fair" value. In such an environment, it seems reasonable for a company to put in place a dividend so shareholders will more directly benefit from the company's cashflow.

Now in practice. Most mega-caps these days are "growth" stocks so they trade at absurd multiples anyways. But if they didn't. Then a dividend would definitely be a sound decision by management.

>However you do end up getting a tax break if you've got actual losses the previous year (1500 single or 3000 married). So rather than burden you the brokerage account can actually make your tax owed less.
This is wrong, by the way. Please read up, Coke Boomer: https://www.investopedia.com/terms/c/capital-loss-carryover.asp

Losses are used to offset gains, with any excess carrying over to the next year. In addition to that, $3000 of ordinary income can also be offset, whether you're married or single. Or as the IRS tl;dr's:
>If your capital losses exceed your capital gains, the amount of the excess loss that you can claim to lower your income is the lesser of $3,000 ($1,500 if married filing separately) or your total net loss shown on line 16 of Schedule D (Form 1040).
