Because the yen is ripping. The US dollar is collapsing. Everyone knows the FED isn’t going much further with rates. Bond market has been calling their bluff for months.

Here is the scenarios. Either the FED comes out and starts hiking 100bps per meeting and crashes the value of stocks, bonds, real estate, metals, lambos, yachts, and everything else (which the owners of the FED own most of hold) and helps the average person / saver (if they keep their job) or they let the currency which they can and will just print more of collapse and keep the value of the things they hold going higher and the people fat and happy as they normalize 5-10% monthly inflation in the stuff normal people buy to survive.

What choice do you think they will make?

normalizing high inflation isn't going to make anyone happy. The bond market isn't calling their bluff, its signaling it knows the market distortions are going to cause recession, its a flight to safety.
SPY, junk bonds, shitcos jumping up signals retail thinks the economy is strong enough to handle these rates while smart money heads for the exit.

you wouldn't buy 3.6% treasuries if you thought the economy was strong enough to handle 5% rates.
You also wouldn't buy them if you thought inflation was going to be 10% next year. it would be safer to buy gold

if you dig into the CPI, all the things the average/poor people need, inflation is still hot. and personal savings are now at all time lows, credit card bubble is very close to popping.
That's why the market was so choppy today, it was a lower than expected print, but the fine print was not good.

I'm getting ready to go to work. At my do-nothing tech job where I get overpaid but also I'm recession proof because the work I do is essential to the company and from what my boss tells me, they have a hard time finding and keeping talent because everyone thinks it's "boring".

Basically I run tests on products the company makes (semiconductors) and we often have long downtimes where there's no testing that needs to be done. I've had fuck-all to do for the past 3 months and they still pay me it's fucking insane but I'm not gonna look a gift horse in the mouth, you know? We'll get a bunch of work dumped on us in a month or two but I'm sure after that's cleared we'll have more downtime. I basically get paid to day trade at work on my phone.

Lived there (Specifically Nellis AFB) for a while. Vegas is horrible. The strip and the base are effectively the only safe parts of town, the rest is gang infested and poverty stricken to a degree that makes New York and LA look perfectly fine by comparison. Just off base there was a dead Wal-Mart, No logo, no branding, just an empty husk of that WalMart shaped building. Come to find out it was so dangerous to go there, so many stabbings in the parking lot that the Air Force personelle were instructed not to go there in uniform and heavily suggested never to go there even out of uniform. That killed what little revenue they had because the locals just stole everything and the workers didn't stop them.

Don't ever live in Vegas.

As much of a New Vegas fanboy as I am, I really did live there for a brief time in my life. My mom was stationed there and I lived with my parents at the time, shortly before moving out and going to college.
The strip really was an impressive site to see but you pay throigh the nose to go anywhere there. Outside of the strip it's impoverished housing and streets you really don't want to be caught going down at night, or in general if you're white.
There was a fairly nice park not far from the Strip and the Airport that was relatively safe though, some ducks lived there and people would go and drive model boats in the small lake they had.
Speaking of Water, Vegas basically steals most of south Nevada's Water supply from nearby towns for their hotels fountains pools and the like, leaving a lot of smaller towns out to dry so to speak, but the state lets it happen because Las Vegas is their primary source of tourism.

savings rates allows for the potential for future growth
nations with higher savings rates allows for higher future growth
money that is saved doesn't just sit in a bank account - it is lent out to others to be productive & grow the economy
if the savings rate collapses, investment in the economy collapses, future growth collapses
not only does a very low savings rate hurt future growth, it immediately hurts present growth and consumer spending
think about it like this - if you have a positive / high savings rate, all of your "needs" and "wants" are being met; even with you buying all the things you need and want, you are still saving money / net positive
when the savings rate falls this low / negative, it means that people are getting hardcore squeezed financially, where they are not able to buy everything they want / need, that they have to borrow money / put themselves in debt in order to keep up. they are unironically doing this for groceries - not for "a new TV" - that's how bad the situation is getting, that people are putting themselves into unrecoverable debt, for food
this extremely low savings rate impacts consumption, as although the $ frontline price may be inflating GDP, the amount of goods and services that the person is actually receiving is less than before - their quality of life is lower, they cannot buy as many things (just fewer things at a higher price)
this is bearish for growth, bearish for corporate earnings, bearish for the economy
if you want to learn more, google
>savings rate relationship with economic growth
and there are many, many papers on the subject
the other huge danger that exists, that didn't exist before, is that we are having this extremely small / negative savings rate, while also at a time of all time high debt and increasing layoffs
it's a recipe for disaster, as people who do not have money saved / no savings are having to borrow money on higher interest to buy food; they don't have a job & can't pay it off
