>did you miss the part where they've already done that for the last few earnings cycles?
and now, the monetary policy is actually hitting, as it has a 12-24 month lag
october, november, december was when we really began to see cracks in the economy
inventories rising, layoffs increasing, new orders sharply contracting, manufacturing activity sharply contracting, work week hours worked decreasing
we are just now over the past several months, exponentially increasing by the day are seeing the demand destruction the Fed wanted to see
the market is saying that this destruction is bullish, as it means the Fed will pivot sooner
in reality, the destruction is just destruction, and soon enough, it will reflect in earnings
it may not even reflected in this earnings season, as the consumer is still overextending in credit and debt in order to maintain their lifestyle
it could take all the way to Q1 earnings to really show
but I do expect to see it reflected in Q4 earnings to a much greater degree than previous earnings
shit has only gotten worse since the previous cycles

valuations are based upon earnings, especially growth in earnings
if a company is no longer growing in earnings- their earnings are flat or go down, the valuation goes sharply down
if a company is no longer growing, investors are no longer willing to pay a growth premium
we still have not had this reflected in earnings, as it took literally until october for the first cracks in the economy to start showing, and really only got bad late november into december especially
this will soon™ be reflected in earnings, where either they miss estimates, or are no longer growing, but more importantly, they will all give a very gloomy outlook for 2023 and in their guidance
companies are laying off thousands of employees - do you really expect them to come out in their earnings calls saying that 2023 is going to be great, they are going to greatly increase their sales this year, and EPS will rise sharply?

Markets are predictive cause the price is determined by the activities of those who control the outcome of things. The stock market has predicted every major even ever. Most recently it predicted COVID19 by six months. Before that it predicted 911 and many other things.

We can’t tell what events exactly it’s predicting till after they occur but we can see what it’s telling us about financial conditions and events in the future.
