Not off the top of my head, but with 'something more passive' I was thinking of some sort of index fund exposed to genomics. Idk if that exists, it's not really my sort of investment.
But the advantage of index funds tracking sectors is that you aren't chained to the questionable judgement of active managers like cathy woods.
Otherwise I wouldn't invest in anything because 'it's cool', if the cookie factory next door can triple profits in two years, you should in fact invest in the cookie factory because the underlying economics are easier to grasp and tech is very sensitive to competition. If anything 'cool' things that you don't understand are worse investments than boring but more rapidly growing companies that you understand a bit better. The classic example is Peter Lynch making bank on ToysRus and Dunkin Donuts back in the day. Of course, those kind of growth stocks are very hard to find these days.

you anons probably have no idea how fucked we are. the fed raising rates and doing nothing to combat inflation (yes raising rates doesnt do shit) is affecting women the most, this is not the "women most affected" meme, this is real. women account for over 70% of ALL consumer spending and if they are priced out of excessive buying, like they're used to, its going to hit the markets harder than covid. there will be some delay to when shit actually hits the fan because women are maxxing out their credit cards at the moment to maintain their money-spending level but they're going to hit the limit soon and paying back is not an option. listen to me closesly, if women are unable to keep buying we will get obliterated.

there needs to be a huuuuuge tax break for women to keep the market going or bobo is going to piss in our coffee every morning.

TSM earnings will destroy semi valuations.

Also wage growth decline was definitely an over-reaction from the market.
It's been trending down for a while now and unemployment rates still haven't budged.
IMO the only thing that will move the fed on rates is inflation expectations dropping to below 2% or unemployment properly breaking out.
In 1966-7 wage growth dropped thanks to rate hikes but the labour market remained strong.
In reality this is likely the scenario the fed wants to avoid as inflation came back fiercely afterwards when after the fed eased.

The market will crab back up over then next 4 days, then shit the bed after CPI into the subsequent week before pumping again to February 1st. Bulls will declare this the end of the bear market forever and only up. At that point the market will, as it did in december, sell off. Bears will gloat about how bulls are so stupid and it was obvious the market was pricing in another PIVOOOT that wasn't coming and the bear market will last ten years.

In reality, the crab chads will win as the market will be flat and go upsies and downsies depending on season with no directionalism.

In the 2000s still had jokes about waiting in line for bread in Russia and hiding from the secret police but I didn't know the extent of death resulting from incompetent or malicious governance over there until after college when I had a job I could read wikipedia all day at.

Its my aunts old house who died in 2020 from sepsis after radiation treatment. The house was valued in 2021 at 265k (premier condition). Its owned by eight over family members (due to inheritance) and its a bitch to sell it for that reason. My uncle was holding out (He is a pennypinching miser who wanted me to pay 250k+ outright for the house) and the home has had 8k-10k in taxes + bills + routine work since. It's near impossible to sell so the house would get lowballed if the court tried to sell it on top of all the court fees. So family is essentially held captive due to the circumstances. Cash out refinance for 168k (160k cash + 8k fees) I am buying the house for essentially 131k (I own 5.5% currently) and have 29k to get all housework done on it pay out all bills etc. Since the house has sat for two years I will be getting everything professionally examined. It also needs some minor foundation work (one corner of the house is lightly sagging, thats already quoted at 5k). Any remaining cash on hand will just go back to paying down the house.

It's called shifting the Overton window. You lead with extremist shit like instating communism when the real goal is to institute policies of socialism, which is shit like social security and obamacare where the costs are subsidized via tax revenue so the people don't have to pay out of pocket for shit they need that would otherwise be cripplingly expensive. The real secret is that full retard unfettered capitalism is damn near as bad as full retard unfettered communism, but capitalism is the inherently superior economic ideologue so long as you temper it a bit and put controls in place to prevent any one entity from amassing too much power (the same problem that was the downfall of every single communist system of government that has ever been tried, save for China's, although they've incorporated so many capitalistic elements it's really not fair to refer to it as communism in anything other than name as it's more like very heavily socialized capitalism).

tl;dr opportunistic parties have realized the faults of capitalism have grown to the point that it's very easy to throw together a video espousing the ideals of communism which is then disseminated with the explicit purpose of their own gain first and foremost

And before I get deservingly shat on for typing this out, I'd like to point out that I vastly prefer capitalism for every reason you can think of but it's become clear it's a too lopsided distribution of money and thus capital which is power for the common man to be able to do much more than survive. And yeah, life should be unfair, but not so wildly so that it's basically impossible to have a home or not have to eat dogshit or not be able to raise your kids properly because you have to spend too much time working. The real impetus of everything I've said is that shit cannot remain so fucked up for the average person or they will burn the village down to feel its warmth, or at least enough of them will to start really fucking shit up for everyone else. Two thirds of the population would gleefully kill each other while the remaining third watched and hid is a statistic that's held up throughout most of recorded history save for exceptionally brutal times.

NatSoc would unironically work quite well absent a burning desire for genocide to the point it directly impacted productivity and the ability to defend or go on the offensive. It's basically the system a lot of nordic countries use and they're doing very well economically and in terms of quality of life for the average person, although some of them have begun rotting socially because they swung too far to the left and try to control what people think or say which has never seriously worked on any real timescale. It doesn't even work today and there are the largest narrative control apparati ever made in place. At any rate, most of the problems everyone is facing right now are just a necessary consequence of fiat currency being the global standard; prices double every ten years even if you manage it extremely well because you have to keep printing money as it's impossible to pay off the debt that created the money you needed in the past. Hence the looming transition to crypto currencies which has been soft disclosed ad nauseum for years at this point, probably never as the sole way of having or spending or using money as cash is way too valuable for the anonymity it provides not just to the common man but governments as well but certainly in a big way.

In reality it doesn't matter if you classify it as a recession or not, purchasing power is reduced anyhow if money is printed because, no surprise, that money is used to buy things and then you have less things so the prices don't stay the same.

the call buyer stands to profit if the stock goes up from here, the call seller stands to profit if the stock goes down from here

if the stock falls OTM by expiration, the call buyer loses all of their money they paid for the call, and the call seller will keep it all (premium)

if volatility goes up, the price of the option goes up (both calls and puts), this could benefit either the buyer or the seller depending on when they bought/sold it. the seller could profit if they sold options during a period of high volatility and then it dropped afterwords - they would have received a bigger premium than selling low-vol options

the price of options depends on many factors, not just ITM/OTM/ATM. look up black-scholes option pricing model to get started

If the 10 year bond goes to 5%, why wouldn't the market correct KO down to a dividend of 5% as well, to correct for the risk free rate going up, implying a 50% reduction in KO stock?

its funny how I thought as a kid that $10000 is a fuck ton of money. its actually nothing, you cant buy a car with it or a house. buy a tv or a good GPU and 1/3 of it is gone already. the other 2/3 maybe can afford you a nice vacation but thats it.
its the same with $100k, you cant buy a house with it. buy a middle class car and half of the money is gone. if you think about it $1million is not that much either.

>> No.53181583

>>53181559
I think you need something like 3 million to live off of dividends properly (say the yield is 3%, that nets 90K usd a year if I'm not off), but even then inflation is eating into your base investment, assuming you never re-invest. So you would ideally also have 2 million extra working as a pure play investment, the proceeds of which you feed into the 3 million yielding dividends.
So assuming you can live off of 90K yearly, you need a couply of million just to be a NEET living a normal life.

desu the hard part about investing for normal people is not actually the investing itself, but more that it really only starts to pay off above a certain number of input.
Getting 100K to 1 million in 20 years is hard but it can surely be done if you're very good, but you need 100K
If you start with 10K and get to 100K, you did well but the number is still a useless amount and it cost you 20 years of your life
I think that's why people are lured into options trading and margin, it just takes too long to invest normally if you do not have that much money

>> No.53181641

>>53181629
For example, let's assume you make 2,5K euros net every year when you start your working life. You pay out 1,5K in rent, insurance, groceries, etc and live so frugally that you manage to keep 1K to re-invest.
Well naively thought out, you'd need a 100 months to get to 100K invested, or about 8-9 years. If you start working at 24, you'd be 32 before the game even really got started. And now you have 20 years to get to a million; assuming that works, you'll be 52 and getting old when you finally have some money.

>A union that represents American Airlines pilots is reportedly raising concerns about new cockpit procedures, claiming that pilots have not been given enough time or training.

>In a Jan. 2 statement, the Allied Pilot Association said that American Airlines Flight Operations management was attempting to get around robust safety-related pilot training by unilaterally imposing operational changes using a handout.

>... Captain Dennis Tajer said they had also received updates to the operating manual and a short video with a general overview of the changes that he said wasn't specific to the aircraft American pilots fly.

>"While APA does not oppose fleet harmonization, we are steadfast in our commitment that pilots must be properly trained BEFORE operating with passengers. This training must be developed in a stakeholder safety culture that acknowledges and addresses concerns raised by APA. To date, that has not occurred," the union stated. "This attempt to train by bulletin, while ignoring serious safety concerns and well-established best practices, runs the risk of dramatically eroding margins of safety."

most options are sold / resold prior to expiration because most traders just want the cash, they dont want the underlying shares. a lot of options end up expiring worthless. american style options can be exercised early, european style cannot. you can buy an option and then sell it later for a profit or a loss before expiration and the inverse is true: selling an option now and buying it back later at a profit/loss

if you are the original seller of the option (writing the option), meaning you created it and sold it onto the market, you face assignment risk - this is when someone exercises the option that you sold them - you are required to either buy or sell the underlying shares to/from them for the strike price

You can write the option without actually owning the underlying stocks right. So as the seller of the options contract when it gets exercised what happens in the double auction market? A market order buy or sell goes out?

gotta pump the market higher and draw in more retail buyers, who have the memory of a goldfish, to buy as many shares as possible on an exit pump
allowing for institutions / funds to dump their shares at a higher price, and also get better entry on new short positions
gotta run the propaganda ministry double time to push up demand from retail investors
then CPI comes out
then Q4 earnings come out, where many companies shit the bed

Thank you very much for the replies. I have read books articles and watched videos on this but I still feel there are just minor gaps in my understanding so thank you very much.

Double auction market I am just referring to the traditional order book limit and market order auction that happens on stocks and futures etc. Is there a better word for this?

Also does each options contract have its own limit order book? I can open a chart for each individual strike price for puts and calls are there bids and asks going out for each individual strike price?

So the original writer of the options contract can never get out of the assignment risk? The buyer never knows if he is buying from the first seller I assume?

no
and it's what the Fed wants
when there are bagholders, when people are down huge amounts of money on their investments from their all time highs, they "feel" poorer
when you feel poor, you spend less money, you hold off on buying a new house, a new car, a new washing machine, a new boat, etc.
google
>the wealth effect
when people no longer feel wealthy, they spend less - this helps the Fed in their mission to fight inflation
it also decreases corporate revenues and profits, whoopsies!

it's good for the consumer, as it means lower prices
businesses that sell goods and services see that they are making less sales, making less money, so they either don't raise their prices as aggressively, or they decrease prices to attract more customers
google
>elasticity of demand
but it's bad for stock prices, as lower prices, or not raising prices as aggressively means smaller margins, means smaller profits, or smaller growth in profits

Not necessarily I wouldn't think. Businesses are consumers in their own right. Margins can remain unchanged if the materials they're buying to create their products also become cheaper.

I've heard people say that Tesla has a big advantage because they don't use traditional car dealerships, but doesn't that leave them on the hook for buy now pay later schemes?
I'm not sure exactly how it works and who owns the debt.

Debt deflation like we saw in the Great Depression, basically everyone scrambling for cash, selling assets, aggregate demand collapsing

I need cheap groceries. If millions have to starve thats a small price to pay. Everyone had an opportunity to get jobs and make money but they opted to do nothing it's time to decimate the job market and right the ship.
