>NFP 223k vs 200k
higher than expected job adds but still a drop vs last month, softening economy = good for the fed
>unemployment 3.5 vs 3.7 expected
very strong labor market still, the fear here is strong labor = higher wages = more inflation = fed goes higher for longer with rates
>hourly earnings 0.3 vs 0.4 expected
small miss, sure, but the big news is the revisions to prior months, see >>53158713 (You) . these are absolutely gigantic revisions downward and it supplants whatever bearishness the above two data points would have inspired. nobody cares if labor is running hot so long as wages are cooling.
>ISM services 49.6 vs 55.1 expected
another biggie, services was seen as the last sector to resist cooling inflation but now it is in contraction for the first time in two years
>factory orders -1.8 vs -1.1 expected
good, more manufacturing softening
>four fed speakers lined up to talk this afternoon
unless any of them start reciting apocalyptic poetry or something, this will be a nothingburger just like bullard was yesterday
>M-W next week, zero meaningful data drops
means the runway is clear for blueballed retards to finally have fun for a few days and pump each others' bags.

Oh FFS.
If I sell a stock for $1 I don't have the stock anymore, I just have a dollar.
Dividends are (supposed to be) pulled from quarterly profits. If I get a dividend for a dollar, the price of the stock drops by a dollar and then goes back up before the end of the quarer if the company is any good at all.
"This has a high dividend" by itself is a bad reason to buy a stock, that doesn't mean dividends are irrelevant or stupid.

Yeah, that's my point. Public markets are terrible for companies that explicitly require external capital for research and development.
Every round of dilution that a public company goes through is essentially just paying out past short sellers. There's so much front-running with zero relationship to the actual potential outcomes a company might achieve.

Much better to do that through private markets.
Of course, private market valuations have their own issues, with VCs rushing into repeat raises at increasingly stupid valuations to try and inflate their books by raising the "fair market value" on their books of what they funded in earlier rounds. That's pretty blatant right now, with companies like SpaceX doing tiny raises at all time high valuations at the same time that many growth stocks crumble, particularly recent SPACs/IPOs which are down 70%.

Total. Those tax rates apply to your total income. If you make 41k at your job, and then have 10k in long term capital gains (or dividends) you'll pay 15% on the entirety of those gains. It's about 30% less taxation than the 22% rate on general income in that same bracket.
Long term status becomes a more meaningful discount at around 160k+ total income, where the big jump to a 32% bracket kicks in for general income.
In most states that tax income, there is no difference between long or short term gains on those taxes owed. Remember that the initial debate was between buybacks and dividends, so any tax at all is a bigger hit to long term compounding potential than the 0% taxation that buybacks suffer. Technically there's an additional 1% buyback surcharge on US domiciled firms now thanks to Biden, so over the life of the company that could be upwards of a 1% reduction in the terminal value of your holdings. Still beats the compounding hit that DRIP fags deal with.

As for your other comments, I've never worked a minimum wage job in my life. Even my first internship paid $25. I understand that some people will always exist that work those low paying customer service jobs for whatever reason, but it's difficult to imagine why someone here, in this stock market general thread, would be one of those people.
and please don't confuse my with our resident toe sucker. Is he even employed yet? Pretty sure he's still a student - perhaps the only valid excuse to not have high income.

Hypothetically, a sum of $10,000 of taxable capital gains in a year.
Household is in the 15% capital gains tax bracket.

Are these $10,000 of taxable capital gains now being taxed with a 15% percent capital tax alone, or are these $10,000 taxed with income tax AND capital gains tax ontop.

Most people don't realize how much their employer is paying into social security, medicare, and unemployment insurance behind their backs.
But to be fair, if you're counting all that as higher taxes on US workers, it's also a component in the cost of labor and effectively US workers are being paid even higher relative to eurocucks than it appears on the surface.

Each delivery unit shall contain lumber produced from and grade stamped Hem Fir (HF), Douglas Fir (DF), Fir Larch (FL), or Spruce Pine Fir (SPF).

They then go into autistic detail in section 6304 on page 4: https://www.cmegroup.com/content/dam/cmegroup/rulebook/CME/II/50/63.pdf

And for quality:
>The lumber shall meet the requirements of PS 20 or CSA O141 and shall comply with the requirements for inspection and reinspection of an agency accredited by the American Lumber Standards committee and/or Canadian Lumber Standards Accreditation Board.

>>53160122
Ok good. Like I said though, over 1 million. And 40 years. If you put in 1 million into that VT you mentioned, you arent getting 3%. VTI is the same. The point is divy stocks are terrible unless you have billions and even then its better to just go fixed income at that point and avoid the exposure of intel style CEOs taking over your portfolio. VTI and VT are already shrinking your dividend yield.

that's the nice thing about range trading to be honest with you, though. as soon as you get a reversal candle or a break of the low of the previous candle, you can keep a very tight stop loss and have a huge reward possible if it gets near the bottom again. maybe even sell half way between just to hedge your bets and cover yourself, then move your stop loss up to break-even and see what happens. worst case scenario you lose a little but then you get to look for dip buying opportunities in the new trend, ESPECIALLY if it comes down to the ceiling which as become the floor and bounces.

Honestly I wish everyone here would just watch this video because this is literally and unironically all you ever need to know to trade profitably, combined with risk management:

i don't trade exactly this way, but the point still stands regarding being able to analyze what price is doing based on pivot highs and pivot lows. no indicators needed (although i still like having 2 EMA's on the screen for confirmation)

This. All it will take is for Jerome to start easing his language and we'll head for new highs. This is because inflation eventually inflates the price of what it costs to buy shares of companies too. It's why in 1901 we couldn't support a trillion dollar market cap but today we can. Once normalization occurs, the market is actually a hedge against inflation. 2023 will be a massive bull run to new highs.
