Even if you're in crypto from more than 10 years you know that owning your keys you have a higher risk to accidentally lose your keys rather than see an exchange, especially big exchanges like Binance, Coinbase, yeah even (((FTX))), exit scam.
We had two big incidents with MtGox and FTX (maybe Kucoin and even Binance but they solved it), and few damages with Cryptsy (ouch, my DOGE...), Cryptopia, Quadriga ecc. but rather than that you could leave your coins on an average exchange and still find them there after years.
Imagine a complete dumb normie managing his own keys, he would lose his coins in less than a week.
