Also got a couple of neat little things from a pawn shop today. All the halves were $12 a pop, right at my spending limit for halves but made off well. The Franklin is REALLY nice, definitely not cleaned. If it was valuable enough to grade I would do so because it's certainly an AU. The Washington commem is 90%, first 90% silver coin the mint produced since 1964. And then a Barber half for only $12 is pretty sweet. Really want a seated liberty or a capped bust half someday.

I know collectibles/old cars/etc.. are becoming a non-fringe part of the modern portfolio, and they often vastly outperformed the markets this past decade.
I wonder if it's the same for PM collectibles/antique?

I'm asking because i feel like they have the best of both worlds :

Not only that, but because they are made out of materials made to last, they don't face the issue of many others collectibles like mtg cards, rare books, stamps, etc.. who are very fragile and fear excess heat and humidity. Moreover, they all have hallmarks making them easy to identify.


Personally, i started to collect pre-revolutionary silverware i can find on ebay. I'm only picking stuff who is close to spot for now, so the "collectible" cost is basically zero for me. But if it were to become trendy or whatever, then it will outperform the simple metal value.
