in case anyone missed it, i broke down this options trade structure / JPM hedge here:

this is a big hedge that JP Morgan just put on for its clients in JHQAX - JPMorgan Hedged Equity Fund Class A.

JPM stands to lose a theoretical infinite amount of money if SP500 goes above 4030 and keeps going by 3/31, but this will be offset by their equity gains (stocks they hold in the fund will make money), so they might not actually lose any money on the upside

JPM breaks even @ SP500 - ~3588 or a -6% pullback by 3/31

JPM hits max payout of +4900% gains if SPY goes below 3040 by 3/31

JPM loses -100% of their money in the trade if the SP500 crabs between 3600 - 4030 by 3/31

conclusion: JPM traders of this fund are seeing less than 6% upside, and as much as -20% downside in the SP500 by 3/31, and they only make money on this hedge if SP500 declines by more than -6% by 3/31, or else they lose all their money in this hedge

situation: BEARISH

>???? There is absolutely rebal on cap weighted indices, check link related
The rebalancing matches the weighting. The weight is smaller because shares have declined, but the relative number of shares held stays constant. There's no impact. It's only ETF share creation/deletion that has an impact. If we start seeing passive outflows, that'd be disastrous.
Of course, not everything is cap-weighted. Although ironically equal-weight indexes would be buying more shares into a decline.

TSLA is gonna collapse regardless, because that's just the dynamic right now. It's an imploding bubble. Smarter money is trying to escape with minimal losses, the "dip slurpers" are bailing and flipping their losses to other knife catches, who inevitably bail. Elon alone dumped somewhere near $40 bil worth of shares into a vacuum that the market can't fill. A lot of longs leveraged into the positive momentum and are finally getting force liquidated. You'd have to be insane to buy tesla right now.

As in people allocating less to 401ks. Retirees pulling their funds, layoffs, etc.
Not intra-ETF flows.

As another example, I'm sure you've seen how ARKK continues to see inflows despite continuously incinerating capital.
But whatever, this isn't worth arguing. It's one of those situations where you've got the reasoning wrong but you'll still win on guessing direction. The direction is pretty obvious here.

Answering anons question from previous thread:
If you want to take a loan for a house now it's more expensive compared to last year because you have to pay more money for the interest rates, so less demand because only people with cash buy. The poor guy can't afford to take a loan for a basic necessity anymore. Less money is getting loaned. Our economy needs always fresh money to function like plants which are used to fertilizer. Money is not what you think it is. You have to earn it buy working 8 hours a day and use it to save up for retirement. Banks just create it and give it away as loans. Debts are your chains and money is just a tool of power. If the banks want to implement a new thing then they just crash the economy. Goyim cattle is not a joke, anon ;)

Read the prospectus and look at their holdings. Mostly lower beta value companies with strong balance sheets which outperform in bear markets. They also have lower exposure to the overvalued IT sector compared to the sp500. Their covered call ELN's provide additional income in bear and crab markets. All three of these traits I listed are reasons why JEPI outperforms in bear and crab markets. The recent performance is just a validation of what we already know would happen given the implementation of these strategies. JEPI is not a buy and hold forever position, but it is an excellent choice for the current market.

I wanted to swing trade SOXL but with my mentality Id quickly screw up, fomo, and lose a lot. My only solace is I mostly refused to buy any all the way down from $70+. I can't imagine how terrible I'd feel if I went all in at a price of over $30 or even $20. Just $20 is my entire networth cut in half, $30 is two-thirds, and $40 is three-fourths. Worst is that if SOXX goes back to all time high (assuming all underlying move exactly he same for both), then SOXL will be far away from ATH.

Any ideas when the market might finally turn around? The fed seems intent on pushing rates higher and Im confident the effects will soon be felt. Even with SPY being mostly a few companies, the other 490 being negatively affected will likely drag it down.
