It’s because the Yen is fucking weak as fuck to the dollar right now. It used to be About $1 for 100 yen. Now it’s $1 for 130 yen. That’s basically a 24% discount on everything. My advice is to take advantage of this before Bitcoin and Chinabux overtake USD as global reserve currency.

I've been saying this forever. It's a place you visit for a couple weeks. Anyone that actually wants to live there is a brainwashed fool/weeb.

People work 14 hours a day, 6-7 days a week. They have the highest suicide rate. People live in little 500sqft apartments. Their birthrates are falling off of a cliff. The men and women barely even talk, or fuck anymore. They actually have a lot of restrictions, regulations and laws. You still need to wear masks and be vaxxed almost everywhere you go.

People think it's a paradise because it's clean. But, that's about it. The truth is, it's a dystopian hellhole covered in neon lights.

You can get a business visa in Japan by buying property and setting up a property-management business. $40,000 minimum.

Any anons want to pool together some money and buy up property in some commuter town and be comfy landlords in Japan? When I make it this is what I'm going to do.

>A growing number of affluent Chinese are coming to Japan to live, according to real-estate brokers and people in the Chinese community here, in an indication of social and political tensions back home.
>Since November, she has been living in a four-bedroom house in Otaru, a snow-covered port town, while keeping an eye on a portfolio of about a dozen properties in the area that she purchased for the equivalent of about $300,000.
>These days, tighter American immigration controls are pushing more people to consider Japan. If a foreigner puts the equivalent of around $40,000 or more in capital into a Japan-based business—such as by purchasing real estate and setting up a property-management business—he or she may be eligible for a business visa.
>By contrast, the minimum investment for a similar visa to enter the U.S. is $800,000. Singapore, another popular destination for Chinese, requires a minimum that is equivalent to about $1.85 million.

I'm going to grad school for Finance in Tokyo in September. Talked to a bunch of westerners who work there and the job market is pretty good if I can manage to learn workable Japanese.

Because Japan isn't growing, Japanese companies looking to expand internationally and thus a lot more international deals are going on. Unfortunately, the Japanese suck at English. So, if you have finance industry experience and speak business level Japanese, you're set. Way easier to break into private equity or IB roles than western countries (as an english speaker) due to the labour supply being so low. Hours are probably better as well (from hell to hell-lite). At least the Japs apperantly get most weekends off.

It's hard to attract talent when Japanese is a hard language and everyone fell for the "Japan expensive and has bad hours" meme. Competing for roles in English countries for any white collar role is going to be hard mode in the coming years, as you're going to be competing against every indian and internationally educated chinese dude.

Quite frankly there is a massive cultural/ethnic/language barrier. Learning Japanese is moderately difficult since there's a new syntax and alphabet. Culturally it's about maintaining the status quo and to go against that is a faux pas to the point where you may get ostracized. The bureaucracy when trying to live there is a pain, literal hell, almost comical. You see expats there basically living purgatory since they feel like they have nowhere else to go; and expats only link up with expats because they'll never really be part of a Japanese inner circle as it is a novelty. It's not Sweden tier but close to it. Though in retrospect, it is clean and relatively safe. Wanting to go there to escape /pol/s nightmare won't do much as they're expanding beyond Roppongi and that /pol/s nightmare is traveling a lot more. I wouldn't mind moving there if I had "fuck you money" where I can hire fixers to do everything for me. It just seems like a transient country on guessing how long you'll last before you leave. I've mate Japanese expats in other countries especially Thailand, Philippines, Singapore where they have businesses there and the main reason to basically freedom from the autism. One thing of note, outsiders of Japan and come in and reap the comforts and benefits but I've noticed Japanese that travel out of Japan are often dumbfounded on how the rest of the world works, like they don't develop situational awareness and often see them scammed or pickpocketed in Europe, it's sad really. The ideation of Japan is a facade that get's chipped away eventually.

TL;DR fun place to visit for a few months; not a fun place to live.

By that I mean the extreme Xenophobia to each other to keep each other in social check. But you'll be excused from that social obligation as you are just a baka-gaijin. Atleast you'll get to feel how those Africans in Sweden are treated though.

Like I said, fuck you money or you'll be in purgatory. I'm pretty sure Pewdiepie had the money to have fixers do everything for him when going there, he even took a private jet so he can bring his dogs over.

You cannot say "Europe has blablalb" or "In Europe blablab costs €x". That's like pretending the whole Americas has the same cost.. NA & CA & Mexico has different costs per area.. Fucking simpletons.

I just moved over there a few months ago after graduating from university. No Western company wanted to hire me back home but I ended up getting hired as a Japanese company's first foreign employee.
Pay isn't great but Japanese companies hand out all sorts of subsidies to their employees. At the moment they pay all of my rent. Trying to overcome the cultural barrier is an ongoing process. I speak good enough Japanese that I can work in the language every day. The country is safe and despite the memes work hours are pretty much the same as the West.
As >>53115447 says the red tape here is an absolute comical nightmare. People are so entrenched in their procedures and the concept of "wiggle room" is non existent here. That being said I really enjoy living in a regimented rules-oriented society that's socially conservative. There's things that I'd want to change of course (like the fact that most stores in Japan do not take any returns), but there's going to be tradeoffs wherever you live. So far life is good, but I don't want to work the wagie life forever. No idea how to escape it though because I've tried and failed at investing before.

I am more curious as how the economic situation is at the moment. Especially with what's going on. From my friends still there, prices have gone up, but not enough where it causes a riot. I know most people don't make a lot there compared to other developed nations and it's why the low prices for stuff, especially konbini's are relatively cheap. I know it's a nation of economic stagnation that I don't see it coming out of it soon. I can't imagine it becoming similar to thailand(debauchery) in order to draw in money since Japan is kind of hypocritical where tourism bucks is very much needed, but they loathe gaijin. Though I've noticed more amateur porn coming out of Japan, not sure if its indicative of anything

in his defense, quality of life and conveniences hide the economic stagnation. The average EU citizens is poorer than the US but in some EU countries QoL is pretty good. That being said, Japan gives little room for economic flexibility, it's one of those place where commitment/waging towards your company for a chunk of your life will push you up the economic ladder.
>even south korea is more wealthy
no. When it comes to it's citizens, they are on par or worse. Korean's are shallow, and will put themselves into debt to make themselves look good or superior socially. Look at their media, it's popular fictional television shows are those death games where a person risks their lives for a cash reward in order to get out of debt.

I'm not sure how they keep goods like Bento's at Konbini's cheap(not fresh), but really that's all a wagie needs for sustenance before they spend the rest on expensive hobbies.

Not Japanese, but yeah it’s worth it. Memes aside the country has a real charm especially when you get out of Tokyo itself, the smaller cities are pretty wonderful. I went in the beginning of 2020 before all the COVID bullshit kicked off and got the train(s) from Tokyo to Sapporo to stay for a few days. For someone who hadn’t ever experienced winter in a proper northern hemisphere city that’s blanketed with snow drifts as tall as your waist, it was pretty magnificent. One of the best memories I have is just walking about Sapporo city and the parks at night. I will admit I think it’s a better travel destination as a solo individual or as a couple though, it’s an oddly melancholic country with a feel that would be difficult to appreciate as a kid IMO.

Do you have kids? If so they might find smaller places a bit boring. Possibly better off sticking around the larger cities because there’s more to do that would appeal to them. Disneyland, for example.

Also for the sex pests here, claims of Nip women being easy to get laid with are dubious at best in my experience. Maybe if you go to Roppongi where they’re actively looking for white guys. But anywhere else you would need to have a half decent handle on the language and at least be conversational. I went to a couple of clubs and ironically only got attention from white girls there who happened to be on vacation as well.
