Go to the Accounts pane on Coinbase, that's where your wallets are. Click the Receive button, and it will give you the address to your wallet (a wallet is automatically generated for you when you buy a coin). Anyone can make their own crypto, but it will just be a waste of time unless you can find investors, you'll just be one of the millions of shit coins on near-defunct exchanges. Coinbase, if they stop hosting LTC (which I see no reason to believe), would announce it beforehand. You can also move the LTC to an exchange like bittrex or binance, or to a physical storage. Lurk moar before you buy anything else.

you have a wallet address for receiving funds
its not a *real* wallet since its going through coinbase, its actually their wallet.
on the coinbase dashboard you can go to Accounts, then on the LTC wallet section you will see Send and Receive buttons. if you click Receive you will see the current string for "your" wallet address to accept transfers

if you want a wallet that is actually yours instead of letting coinbase hold your LTC in theirs, you have to download a personal wallet, try litecoin.org for the official software. note, by putting funds into your personal wallet it is ON YOU to back up the wallet.dat file, encrypt it, not lose your private key, etc. There have been countless stories of people losing their funds because they lost their wallet.dat file, or they forgot their key, or they sent funds to the wrong address...

yes you have to sell them to someone for $
that is the purpose of an exchange

technically no you dont have to send them to coinbase, you could find a person in real life and agree to sell him litecoin, he gives you cash, you transfer LTC to his wallet

Coinbase hit the last straw with me not because of the whole Bitcoin Cash fiasco like the plebbit crybabies, but because their customer support is nonexistent and they locked me out of trying to link my own debit card (even though the bank account that the debit card is connected to is already confirmed and verified). Then when I try to go over to GDAX, it gives me verification errors even though I'm verified on Coinbase and using the same credentials.

yeah that is very true
their customer support is garbage

i know someone who has been trying for 2 weeks to get on GDAX even though their coinbase account is already verified and all that

They do seem shit when I was signing up i had to send my is 3x before it got approved
I also read online that sometimes they ask you for another ID photo - if they ask me I'm screwed because I don't look like the photo in my passport anymore

Cryptocurrency is a very volatile market, these dips are nothing new. Bitcoin has gone from $14-16K down to $13-8K in a single day. The best thing to do at the moment is hold onto it.

Charlie Lee founded Litecoin, and sold his share to avoid accusations of insider trading and self profiting. There are some rumors about a partnership with Facebook though.

It's because of a large influx of new customers. All exchanges are slow at the moment

The most annoying part for me atleast is that I actually had the debit card linked and they decided to remove it because they "no longer support" it. This, of course, was during the shit mess that was adding Bitcoin Cash to Coinbase, so I'm sure that plays a part in it, but it is frustrating that they tell me to contact support when there are countless posts across the internet about how people have been waiting for customer support to respond to their issues for weeks, and even months for some. This is not the type of company I want to deal with when I'm involving my money. If shit goes south, Coinbase has proven that they could not care less. Sure they can verify my ass within a day when it comes down to spending my money on their services but are easily quiet for days when an issue arises.

Coinbase and GDAX are the best places for a beginner. Don't jump onto other exchanges yet it's scam fest over there. If this BCH fiasco happened on another exchange, they wouldn't have halted trading and many people would have lost millions

I had the same thing with Coinbase/GDAX.

I thought "sweet", just link my account (success!). However when I would login to GDAX it was this non descript error. After some searching it boiled down to living in a state where they don't have a license (MN) yet. So I went with Kraken. Recently signed up for Binance to play with some altcoins.
