I just bought a bunch of silver and gold coins and some silver bars for the first time. Like most here though I don’t expect to make any money unless there’s some sort of collapse in which case it will be impossible to get any monetary value out of it anyway. I’m just doing it to stop myself spending my own money and preserve and save some wealth for the future. I don’t care if I even lose a bunch of money as long as I have some saved for the future.

Picked these up today at an antique store

90 percent silver quarters 4.50 a piece
90 percent silver war nickel for 1.50
90 percent silver dimes for 2.50 a piece
And a half dime with a hole in it :( but only 2.50

How'd I do? Did I get scammed? I never bought constitutional silver before so I don't really have a good idea on what a fair price is.

Are you all in on the USD collapsing and silver becoming an extremely valuable currency then? I just can’t see it, they’ll artificially keep it afloat and they already have been doing that for years anyway and I think in only one recession since the 1900s has silver value increased, the rest it has dropped. Gold is the safer bet.

I’m obviously not looking to sell anytime soon or I’d just chance my money on stocks but the point of any investment is to cash in at some point, so in the far future I may want to.

Selling is easy. You can go to any local pawnshop and even some jewelry stores. Some online stores like JM Bullion will buy from you too.

Generally you just gotta ask around. My dad had some generic silver rounds he brought to our local pawnshop and they gave him spot. My local pawnshop doesn't care if you have a bar, round, or coin. They don't pay premiums. They just pay spot. So, if you're someone that buys generic rounds, that's a positive, but if you're someone that buys government coins with higher premiums, it could be seen as a negative.

You're making the right life decisions though Anon. Try to buy investments, not just basic consumer goods. I'll take a $600 gold coin, over a $600 Gucci belt any day.

It is impossible to lose money on real money. You bought the REAL money with FAKE fiat currency that is not money. The only "money" is Gold and Silver, everything else is credit. Step #1 in your enlightenment is to divorce Gold and Silver from a dollar value. If you are measuring gold and silver in dollars you are doing it wrong. When the time comes, you won't be able to get an ounce of Gold for a billion dollars. Dollars will mean nothing, but the Gold will still buy the same things it has bought for 5000 years. You are buying stability, and that is better than any measurement in some fake piece of paper backed by thieves. You are winning just by having REAL money in your hands.

BRICS is likely going to launch a reserve currency that's backed by gold, commodities, and a basket of local currencies from member states. There's not a single currency today that isn't FIAT. There's also been about 4800 Fiat currencies throughout history and every single one failed, it's inevitable. When BRICS launches it's currency and is made available to half the global population which it's member states represent, it will likely become the new global reserve currency. The final nail in the coffin for the dollar before everyone rushes for the exit is the Saudis turning their back on the US in favor for either gold which they love or the BRICS currency which they have shown interest in. The writing is on the wall. Could take a decade or two though

It just depends, every shop is going to be different. Some shops might give you $1, or $2 over spot if you have a coin. Some might just give you spot price on everything. Others might even try to low-ball you and pay below spot. Never do buisness with low-ballers, they can't be trusted. Only spot price and higher is acceptable.

Just don't plan on getting rich with gold, or silver. Just plan on small fluctuations over time. Try to hold it as a last resort, as insurance.

If you want to try and make money, you have to invest in stocks, real estate, etc. But, there is a lot more risk involved I those assets.

I am new, that doesn’t mean i don’t know history, I’ve looked into it a little. Based, Im contemplating if I should buy these right now, like, Im a REALLY going to be able to find something else for a better price than this in the near future?
I don't even know if it's worth stacking 90% anymore. It seems like dealers are moving more towards selling 40% half dollars and war nickels in $500 FV bulk at a stupid low premium, but who actually has enough balls to buy that much at a time, immiright?

Check your pawn shops for junk. Most wont have it but I noticed those who keep it and don't send it to the assayers have a fuck ton and sell it close to spot.

I would personally just go with pure silver coins because when the crack up boom happens they will be the first to go, then the junk silver coins. In today's age we have non destructive technology to find out the metal content of coins, which will become more common in retail stores so junk silver coins will have their place, but it will be long after the financial collapse when you will be able to capitalize on them.

got jipped on the dimes. Cheaper online (and my pic is actually expensive.) Expect to pay 18-20x for junk silver (junk meaning a silver coin with no value other than silver). The quarters were a real bargain.

Heres a nice link that updates daily with spot price. Even a calculator there to get your exact haul priced out.

https://www.coinflation.com/silver_coin_values.html

You can see your Quarters have a value of $4.33 each, you paid $4.50. Literally a 4% premium. The dimes are worth $1.73 each, you paid $2.50, literally a 30% premium.
So all in all a decent haul, grats on the quarters..

Go towards the end of the month to pawnshops. Ask if they have anything they are sending off to the refiner, offer to buy it for a bit more
>refiners pay 95-98% of spot
if the pawn shop has some junk silver lying around, you can offer them 5% over spot and they will jump on it, because they lose when factoring in shipping and taxes (refiner automatically reports payments bc of Patriot Act). If they dont take 5% go to 10%.

hi /pmg/ newfag here. I want to order directly from the Mint (Canada) but their online selection is limited to what's here:

Silver: https://www.mint.ca/en/shop/categories/silver?productFacets=Availability%3ANotSoldOut&productPage=2#products

Gold: https://www.mint.ca/en/shop/categories/gold?productFacets=Availability%3ANotSoldOut&productPage=1#products

My question is, could these gain value over time or am I wasting my money? I have no idea how to pick from them. But at first glance the premiums are super high. On the other hand they're from the Mint and they are legal currency. What do frens? I made a picture of what seemed interesting (keep in mind they are canadian dollars) but I probably missed a few, everything is in the links though.

The Canadian mint is essentially a for profit enterprise. They print many restricted collectibles. Some are flops. Some are popular. I have a few that have boats on them but otherwise I wouldn't bother.
The ones with a 100 or 200% premium should be avoided. You may as well be buying jewelry at that rate.
>legal currency
Any commonwealth currency with a face-value amount doesn't necessarily translate to functional legal tender. Take that claim with a grain of salt.
It might be useful if you're travelling and want to declare something at face rather than at metal value, but the face would have to be high and that would usually floor the buy price.
Stick to the generic bullion coins if you're unsure.

Newfags should stay away from pretty coins and fractional metals. Buy the most amount of metal for the least amount of fiat. Buy a few pretty things later when you have a better understanding of what you're doing. Stick to silver rounds and don't buy gold under 1/4oz, and stick to gold coinage with security features. Once you have these in your stack, buy the pretty stuff that you want.

Gold is going to zero, you'll be able to get it for free off of craigslist soon enough if you're willing to go clean it out of dejected stackers' houses and transport it away. Furthermore, asteroid mining operations will be up and running by 2030 and they will QUADRUPLE the supply of gold.

Obvious troll is obvious. America is an economic powerhouse and there are many elite who exist on this continent and are dependent on industry rather than finance for their wealth. So there are factions of elite who do want to see America remain on top and they make damn sure that places like Canada and Europe compromise themselves at our behest.
However, the ruling faction in the federal government is vetted for their support of Zionism. This has been going on for over a hundred years that upper levels of the government have been doing this.I do believe there is some concern that Zionists would want to somehow spend and or remove that gold and get it to Israel somehow.
Currently, that gold is leased into the market to suppress it's price in order to support the dollar. But you are right in that there is zero accountability with this gold. Who don't know anything about it, it's purity, its authenticity. I see no reason to believe America has 8,000 tons in the ground.

New to PMs, can someone explain to me why any common coin like ASEs are sold at 40%-plus premiums to the spot price?? Looks like Buffalos sell at 20% ish premiums?

Seems like gold coins sell at 5-10% premiums to gold spot, so just curious why the silver premium is so much higher?

And secondly as a newfag, what’s a good rule of thumb for how much of a premium I should be OK with paying for silver and gold?

>> No.53085619

I am curious, but are there any mines out there that are just outright owned and operated by Wallstreet that is capable of securing physical metal in a time of crisis? Like, they own the board of directors, 90% of the company and they can just bump themselves up to the front of the line. I think PMs are important enough that that would be some sort of arrangement they could make in an underhanded illegal way.
Maybe not for platinum because most of it comes from Russia and South Afrika. But surely there are some "shady mines" out there.

>> No.53085679

>>53085589
The suppression of price creates a disconnect in the real world. By suppressing the price of silver, massive shortages would happen so dealers all make up for this by adding premium. The U.S. mint has been massively underminting ASEs, and it being the most sought after coin has been able to carry massive premiums and as a result it pulls all premiums for silver higher.
Gold is so expensive that there is naturally less demand and the market appears able to clear transactions much more efficient (supply/demand finds a price to match all buyers and sellers, if unrigged)
Also, the REASON that silver is such an anomaly is because it acts a lever. There is a well established relationship of silver to gold in price ratios, mining rations, a historic average of such. Silver is a much smaller market and acts as a lever to control the larger market: gold. Precious metals are highly political as the world operates on a dollar standard. We do not want to operate an inflationary racket and have the inflation show up in commodity prices immediately. This price suppression is what will ultimately lead to an abrupt physical shortage.

Most of us believe in silver to be worthwhile when its real value will be realised. That can only happen after global banking collapses or at the very least fiat collapses. We are already in hyperinflation, they can't stop the collapse. So yeah if you trust this will happen then buy yourself some silver as they can't take it compared to the money on your bank or the crypto you own.

It's the new norm, unfortunately. Physical metal is something you plan to hold long term, so don't worry about premiums per say. The global financial system is built on exponential functions and the paper games will always outrun the world's natural resources. It is inevitable and this will manifest itself as losses/bankruptcies and deleveraging events. Having some of your capital outside of the banking system is imperative at this stage. They don't talk about eating bugs and living in pods for nothing. The world continues on as normal so long as the bond market remains stable, THAT is the beating heart of it all, and it contains pent-up purchasing power of $46TN than has not a chance in hell of chasing after other investments or buying goods and services for the owners. It is literally twice the size of the U.S. GDP. The problem is these bonds have to be paid out with current GDP. An impossible situation that is manifesting itself today with 10% inflation. 10% of $46TN is $4.6TN. That alone is like 25% of the U.S. GDP. That is very imprecise/fuzzy math but I think it illustrates the problems we are facing. And that is not to scare you into buying PMs, it's just a reality of what lays before us.
No need to liquidate everything into PMs either. Things can carry on like this for god knows how much longer. It could even be 5-10 years for all we know if the rest of the globe plays along to keep things propped up.

>> No.53086000

>>53085813
>Are ALL metals manipulated?
The dollar based system DEMANDS that inflation be suppressed in commodities because foreigners would never accept dollars and bonds if inflation gets priced into commodities immediately.
The system wants people spending money on higher margin FINISHED goods/production and services that create jobs. They do not want capital chasing the commodities because these things are ultimately political in nature. They want to be able to provide the globe with the raw materials so their dollars seem like a safe investment and then leverage those goods into more and more production. This price suppression however does create shortages. Even the energy used to acquire these raw material is suppressed. If natural resources find a real price point, their availability will be far lower than what they are now. Cheap commodities made us feel far wealthier than we really are because pent-up demand was stored in paper-ponzis. As our natural resources are depleted it is becoming far harder to maintain the charade.

Keep in mind that no retailer who wants to stay in business sells his products for what he pays for them. Right? When you look at spot price, you are looking at the wholesale price for the biggest buyers. Unless you can swing your dick for a full-size bar plus costs associated with getting your hands on it, you are not going to pay spot. You are going to pay a middleman or two on top of spot. Just like you don't pay a car dealer or grocery store what THEY pay for the product they sell you.

>Forget the electricity shit, its a digit on a screen, it does not exist, its not even backed by anything, im all for any payment system that bypasses the bankers but bitcoin isn't it.

The thing that makes Bitcoin interesting is that it is a digit on a screen that has algorithmically enforced scarcity set at 21 million coins. That alone puts Bitcoin's digits ahead of USD's 30 trillion digits on a screen. But yes, Bitcoins infrastructure requirements are still a concern. While the government has grown better at tracking Bitcoin transactions on the blockchain, Bitcoin is still decentralized.

If 1/10 of an ounce of gold is all you can afford go for it, if you can hold off and save up the amount you need for an entire ounce, you'll pay less.

example: This is 1/10 of an ounce and it's priced at $310. So you would need to spend $310 for an ounce of gold.

https://silvergoldbull.ca/1-10-oz-2022-american-eagle-gold-coin

However these gold bars are priced at $2640 for an ounce of gold, so you are saving yourself $500 by buying 1 ounce bars instead of fractionals. Understand?
