The difference is Baby Boomers and maybe Gen X already have a paid off house, Gen Z doesn't and will have to be able to afford a mortgage in addition to other expenses. Then for the savings Baby Boomers are closer to retirement so need to have more stashed away already. I'd love to see the survey they issued.

Because everything costs like fucking hell and it's only getting worse. Inflation through the bajoo.

Savings is also basically pointless since you're actively losing money. It's wiser to use it on stuff that will serve you later, such as investing.

these are not even remotely unrealistic expectations when considering purchasing power
inflation is """"2%""""" but housing, rent, food, etc continuously go up by 5-10% yoy every single year since the late 80s

Where did this meme that inflation outpaces savings come from? It's completely retarded and is used to excuse poor financial planning.
>It's wiser to use it on stuff that will serve you later, such as investing.
You shouldn't even realistically start investing until you have a good amount of money saved up, Warren Buffett tells people to rush to 100k for this reason.

idk basic fucking logic
>savings income rate: 0-fraction of a percent

mattress stuffing, or even holding in a savings account, is literally losing you between 2 and 10 percent per year

You can still out save inflation if you aren't retarded. Inflation has always existed, why are dumbass millennials and zoomers the only people that think it's some fucking end-all be-all? Some times the economy is good, sometimes it's bad, you work with that you have in front of you and throwing your hands up and going "hurr durr inflation exists so I'm gonna spend all my money on delivery pizza and netflix because nothing matters!"
>keeping 10k++ in a no yield savings account is brain damaged

I mean I seem to make do, when the economy is bad I usually eat out /travel less than usual to save more money, I make sure I'm getting my full 401k match every year, keep my savings in accounts with good interest rates. I have investments as well but I acquired those after saving a lot of money up, now I probably make more money from just investments in a month than you make at your full time Taco Bell job.

Because of hustle culture peddled by influencers.
I know dudes who are literally convinced they will be multi millionaires out of college with multiple businesses in operation.

Its kind of like the silicon valley craze in the 2000s to about 2015 with millennials - you had all these people dropping out of college to start the next big thing and then reality hits.

It's unfortunate, but the vast majority of people are going to be working some shitty 9-5 job and never earn more than 120k. As soon as outsourcing becomes less regulated the tech industry is also fucked. Only people who are going to be making good money in the near future are those in Medicine or some Law/Business discipline from Ivy League.
