Do any of you drive cdl for a living?
How much do you make?
I've been thinking about getting a cdl for a while now but the pay seems terrible, does the pay get much better based on where you live? I live in Massachusetts

I went on a family rape trip when I was like 12 years old and we pulled up to some truck stop in Iowa and I started wondering around and I went behind one of the trucks at the end of the line and I saw this big dude getting his sucked at the other end of the truck. And I just stood there in amazement for like 30 seconds then the guy turned his head and saw me and I ran back to my car. I was so horny after that I beat off for the first time that night at my cousins place and she saw me doing it when she walked into the bathroom. Always wanted to be a truck driver after seeing that but it never happened.

It’s not bad at all unless you’re in the Boston area with height restrictions and pedestrians that walk out into the road everywhere. NYC is the hardest place to drive a semi that I’ve ever been.

And the on-ramps are no different than any other state highway. It’s just that massholes don’t know how to merge onto the highway properly.

yeah
>How much do you make?
about $31/hr w/10-12hr workdays. sometimes 13-14. you do get overtime at 1.5x salary
>does the pay get much better based on where you live?
maybe. im in texas. LTL stays local and your back home by evening. you get paid by the hour, not the mile. by the mile is over the road on long distance driving.
>I live in Massachusetts
ew. get out of that shithole.

Just got my CDL A, less than 6 months solo experience. I make $1300-$1400 a week after taxes in a full week on average. I can get plenty of home time but choose to work around 3-4 weeks and then take 4-5 days off. My company runs east coast/midwest mostly. I would advise you to look for a company that is not based out of a big city. As long as you live in the general region of where your company runs it doesn't matter where you live, until your truck needs repairs/servicing anyways. You can read more on trucker report. There is always a trucker thread up on the auto board, but it's shit and you won't get productive advice. I'd say get your CDL now, but just know that the winter months are the hardest and most people who make it to solo end up quitting this time of year. Trucking is without a doubt not a career, it is a lifestyle. I've been in the military and thought I'd have no issues with the stress management, I was wrong.

Do not start for less than .52 CPM, make sure you get a company that has some form of per diem, look for extra CPM on east coast routes. If you have a GI bill DO NOT USE IT FOR (((SCHNEIDER))) or Swift, they are just stealing from veterans.

Too many. Free time is pretty limitied, on the flip side I don't have bills. The cheese stacks quick.

No chains, I get some norwegian tire socks. I got stuck on 322 (i think) in PA this past week, they didn't work all too well, ended up getting tiwed up and over the hill and waited for plows to come by and followed them to finish my route.

I live in SoCal and made about 1000-1200 a week when I was with Schneider doing OTR. Then I went with YRC local P&D and made about 1200 a week but then got laid off cus no work, right now im enjoying the NEET life on dat dere unemployment. There's much more money to be made in trucking but all the good places want minimum 1 year of experience (i only have 5 months).

So you probably make like 60 hours a week and 1300 on the low end?
>>53027316

That's kinda shitty pay for the risk and for living out of a truck, for me I'd say like 1500 is my break even point

>> No.53027653

>>53027350
Yea the pay sucked for OTR thats why I left. YRC pay was also kinda crappy but theyre one of the few big LTL places that hire with little to no experience. You can easily make 1500 a week as a newbie doing food service but they'll work you like a dog.

>> No.53027883

>>53023792
Well I'm not lying I get $35 an hour that 5x12 is 2100 X 52 I'd 109k not including some companies like UPS and FedEx do overtime after 8 hours daily. Most days can be what you desire personally I'm lazy and work 35 hours a week but I'm like the only one. Most truckers have to work 50 60 70 hours and they do so gladly. I'm also home daily as LTL is a turn point to point based companies.

Also there are cdl school farms that will train you and give you poor wages on contract for 7 months but then you learn and are free to go anywhere it's what I did but don't recommend very stressful surrounded by retards and little practice before tests

If you travel through some states, it's mandated to carry chains. As far as I'm concerned, though, if it's time to chain up, it's time to park.
I drive for a smaller outfit in the southeast, driving team to California every week. The only time it seems like work is if I'm dealing with LA traffic or my shithead co-driver slams on the brakes or hits the air horn because he's a little bitch who lets his piss bottles roll around the cab.
I'm finding work with a solo company next month. This shit isn't worth $1100-$1200 a week.

>60 hours a week
Lmao
On a good day where I make decent money, I'd break it down like this,
>10 hours driving, averaging 55MPH+
>15 minutes (.25 hours) fueling
>2 hours at shippers/recievers,
this IS NOT SLEEPER BERTH TIME, I mean using PC to get into doors, doing paper work, calling dispatch asking for the next load, dealing with the people at dockyards (some of them unfortunately are power tripping retards).

on any good day of trucking you are likely working around 11-14 hours between driving and dealing with the other unpaid BS, It is easily a 75-85 hour work week. If you want to make money in the truck and be a "runner" you won't have free time. I make a bit more than most noobies I guess, my company always has a load for me and I make .56 cpm, but at what cost? If I had kids, I wouldn't be doing this.

The major advantage is simply not having bills. I live with my GF and her mom for like 5 days a month.
