Despite the memes japan isn't an exception to anything, they just never actually printed that much during earlier QE, and so their money supply didn't really expand dramatically. Reason being, if you're in a naturally disinflationary period you can just pile on debt and ride rates down to zero without really having to print to suppress them and cause monetary inflation.

YCC is a different beast altogether in terms of money supply growth, and they were forced into it now due to other factors (energy, trade disruptions) pushing rates UP for a change, which obv breaks the whole comfy arrangement. My takeaway from this is realizing the reason this has gone on is they kept betting that we would have given up. Then we just kept holding.
