If all the visible shorts closed simultaneously on the 12th, does that suggest they were all Bitfinex's own shorts? If so, what are the implications of there being no organic shorts from retail on Bitfinex? Isn't BSV supposed to be one of the most hated projects in crypto? Is all that hatred completely manufactured and most people are not against BSV at all? Why was nobody shorting it?

My understanding is that the shorts have to be hidden at the time they are entered into. However, one could also do a hidden spot order, and transfer it from the exchange wallet to the margin wallet to close the position. One of course could also buy BSV on another exchange, and transfer it into their bitfinex margin wallet to close the position.

its an interesting point, if the shorts all indeed cosed at exactly the same time as the chart shows, it would indicate it was all just Bitfinex shorting. Which would mean bitfinex has been doing serious manipulation to suppress bsv price for years and artificially suppress the price... we'll see where we go from here

My understanding of the play was that a cabal of exchange owners decided to fight CSW by shorting BSV and running a demoralization campaign.

There were a couple of aspects to this. Every time BSV got support, they would crash bitcoin, and thus crash BSV even more. So, the backers of BSV worked this out, and stopped all price support. Because, as a strategy this could bankrupt even a BTC OG if they kept trying to support it.

Of course, this was not super well known, but those in the know did do real, large, and devastating shorts of BSV because they knew that the CSW would not back BSV, but he was smart enough to recognize the attack vector.

This was a smart play for those who knew what was actually happening.

Personally as a btc and bsv og, I wont be pumping bsv, I'll just be holding like all other og's. If the price pumps it will ne from newcomers buying in, but at least this time there wont be bitfinex suppressing the price by shorting (though other exchanges might), we'll see what happens.
