Well, without having any actual knowledge on the matter, but just wanting to do my best to help my son benefit maximally, I looked through the ~120 stocks on the eligible list, checked their curves on Google Finance at various zooms, and it did seem to me that most were already hovering around likely peaks. My primary criteria was finding ones that seemed to have some headroom and didn't have any obvious headwinds in their news or such. So far every single one of the picks have remained in the overall post purchase green even after Jan 2022. The least is up nearly 19% (was over 20 until very recently), and one is ~53%. I think all of the ones I actually picked qualified pretty strongly as value stocks, and one maybe even a growth stock, but I also am aware that a great many from the lists did not fare to well. Of course, market conditions after Jan have played a huge part of that. However, all of the docs from the program are about value investing as the intended lesson.

Powell is talking hawkish because he's seen how much the market rallies when he's not. A huge stock market rally right now would undo much of the work hiking rates has accomplished towards lowering inflation. Remember, inflation is as much about expectations as it is about current economic reality. Powell needs liquidity to be tied up for as long as possible (read: undewater stocks) because if that liquidity gets freed up, suddenly economic expansion will continue and that puts pressure on an already tight labor market (which is a major contributor to inflation).

So Powell is just trying to speak it into existence, and by "it" I mean a prolonging of the current bear market. A profit of $40, and loss of $60, means you need to win more than 60% of the time. You can then compare that to the delta which shows probability OTM, probability of touch.
