That's not trying to "shut it down", it's informing people of their right as investors to think for themselves and also telling them how it works. I've had a recurring investment of 500$ a month into GME since December of 2021, and every month at the end of the month I login to my account and switch all of the whole shares to book entry and then re-enable the reoccurring investment. Matter of fact, the whole reason why plan entry shares and book entry shares are distinctly different has to do with fractional shares as you can't break a single share into pieces and register it to multiple different people, so instead computershare holds the share in street name and has a ledger of how many ways it's split and who what percentage of that ownership belongs to. If you drill down even farther the reason there's so much confusion, shitposting, and ample FUD opportunity on the whole subject is because whether a share is held in book entry or plan entry it's still removed from the dtcc - which does in fact make borrowing far harder and still has a net positive effect on share price for the company - but the plan shares are not counted as being directly registered to an individual and thus aren't reported. Computershare has a record of who what chunk belongs to, and those shares are removed from circulation, it's almost exactly the fucking same thing but the one key difference is whether the company knows who the share belongs to or not and who they have as owning what number of shares on the company ledger.

Book entry is the only way in which shares are direct registered in a persons name as their legal property same as if they held paper shares. This is not up for debate.
