Robinhood is a commission free stock trading app on iOS/Android

--Robinhood FAQs --
- VISIT THE WEBSITE FIRST DAMMIT!! - www.robinhood.com

> How is it free?
Robinhood earns revenue by collecting interest on the cash and securities in Robinhood accounts, much like a bank collects interest on cash deposits and by collecting fees from robinhood gold.

> It's been X days, why isn't my account verified yet?
Not being approved in 3 days seems to be the new norm. Nevertheless, call/email their support if you've been waiting more than that.

> When is it coming to my country?
The only "plans" are on an Australian and Chinese beta. Neither of which has gained much traction.

> I hit sell when the stock was X.XX, but it actually sold at a lower price, why?
Robinhood graphs are *** and only show you an average, not true real-time prices. To get Bid/Ask prices and important things like candlestick graphs, you should use a more robust platform.

> Where can I get better charting or bid/ask?
Real brokers, like TDAmeritrade's thinkorswim. Otherwise you should be using tradingview.com, stockcharts.com, finviz.com, or a non-pile-of-*** for your graphing in addition to Robinhood.

I like commodities much more than stocks because they are heavily technical. With stocks even though it is technically illegal you just know before news drops all the insiders know how things are going to turn out. Fundamental factors are always with few exceptions a gamble if you are not an insider. On the other hand, commodities like NATGAS follow patterns almost religiously so they are really fun to play. I like playing pattern recognition and prediction and making money off it basically. In DGAZ or UGAZ if you guess the direction right you can easily make 15%+ in a span of 1-3 days.

are there any other forums for traders? i would have fought there would be a lot more people on /biz/ dedicated to building trading systems so we can escape poorcukery but no one seems to care.

>> No.5268147

The reason that stock market volatility is so low is that all of the volatility has moved to bitcoin. I think there might be something to this. Stock prices have historically been too volatile, moving more in reaction to news than is justified by its effect on future cash flows. One crude interpretation of this fact might be that people like to gamble, and the stock market has historically been a fun gambling venue, and so uninformed but enthusiastic traders would enjoy speculating wildly on the latest stock-market news.

The good news is there are lots of new casinos! There is bitcoin, and there are a million initial coin offerings, and now there is literal sports gambling vaguely dressed up as "investing." These new casinos take some of their metaphors from the stock market, because the stock market is a well-known and appealing and respectable sort of casino. "I'm not a gambler, I'm an investor," the frenzied day-trader used to say about his stock trades, back when it was fun to be a frenzied day-trader in the stock market. Now he can say the same thing about his bitcoin trading, or his ICO investing, or his sports gambling.

According to asset pricing theory, stock prices are equal to the expected value of discounted dividends. As a result, stock price volatility results from either dividend volatility or time-variation in the discount rate used to compute the net present value of dividends.

The original puzzle in financial economics was why stock prices are so volatile relative to dividends. According to the Gordon growth formula, stock prices and dividends should have the same volatility. In the data, however, stock prices are significantly more volatile than dividends. Since the 1950s, stock prices have exhibited 16 percent annualized volatility. That is almost 10 percentage points higher than the “fundamental” volatility of dividends, which has been closer to 7 percent (for example, see Shiller’s annual data).

Today’s realized volatility is about 6-7 percent. This level is what one would have originally predicted using the Gordon growth formula, suggesting that the low volatility puzzle is perhaps less puzzling than originally thought.

if you search leveraged etfs you can make your own list. They're fun to trade when you can't find anything to throw some money at

I usually take a little profit at a time and never hold overnight or longer than a few hours

Here's how a leveraged etf basically works

Say you have $1 in JNUG (3× leveraged). The actual index of stocks the etf follows rise 1%. You now have $1.03. You hold. The next day those stocks go DOWN 1%. You think you're back to $1. Wrong. You LOST 1% of that 1.03 so you lost more. Its called decay. When they get too uneven, like UGAZ DGAZ last week (one is bull the other is bear) they split. That's why something might show it was a million dollars or whatever a few years ago.

Stock investing is, increasingly, solved. Index funds work, and people know index funds work, and they -- and their boring cousins like smart beta and robo-advisers and the rest -- are increasingly popular, and increasingly dominate the discourse about stock markets. They also dominate the structure of markets: "Listed companies today are on average larger, older, and more profitable than they were 20 years ago," as Credit Suisse has noted, which seems like both a cause and a consequence of the shift to indexing. If companies are big and stable and predictable, just buying them all is a more sensible strategy; the dominant strategy is to just buy all the companies in the index.

>pyramid scheme
this is one thing you never see the crypto fags address. pretty much everyone buying into crypto is doing it as a get rich quick scheme and hoping to sell to someone beneath them who is also hoping to sell to someone beneath them

crypto has no tangible value. with stocks you're owning actual equity in a company, with precious metals there's rarity and actual uses for them, crypto has nothing besides pure speculation

It is not a pyramid scheme. Yes volatility is great. I can't wait a year to make 10% gains, I want it today. And yes, means you can also lose 10% (or more) in a day.

How does it not have actual value? Coins I trade have technology backing them. Often using the tech or their product means the coins are used to feed transactions. It is not a pyramid. Coins can be staked (value), mined (value) and traded. But in fact also often have a use or fundamental aspect in the network.

Equity also exists in terms of network weight (staking). And how many of you have actual stocks instead of just CFDs? Isn't that what Robin hood trades? Means you have no equity or voting rights or whatever either. Correct me if I am wrong.

You don't hold UVXY, you trade it intraday. But I'm thinking of buying it at today's low. Tomorrow when the market realizes the tax cuts have been priced in for months now we should see a hard spike down (at least temporarily). That's where I would sell for like 30%+ profit. I wouldn't hold it longer than tomorrow though.

BGFV is going to be comfy gains for the next 3-6 months, do i think that it should be your whole portfolio? no i don't, but i think everyone here should have some exposure to it.

>>5271727
i just don't get why you are bashing it, i really really don't its a well established company that has survived this shit market for retail, not only has it survived but it is currently building and opening new stores and growing, other sports stores went out of business this eliminates competition for BGFV... no. I never said that. Im in it for the trade. Im in it to make money on price fluctuations, it is bound for upward move that'll last a few quarters

Are you making some sort of post-ironic joke using your real money? Are you some sort of mad genius?
Im just here to make money, my other positions are just my current positions i've been trading in and out of them, GBR for instance i've already made a couple grand off of, i buy low and sell some high, same with NMM i've already taken gains.

BGFV is building a base to jump higher and once it moves higher it'll keep moving higher for another 3-6 months because that's how stocks work, accumulate low, sell high. move on to another undervalued stock.

Thank you guys so much. Really only works on RH to avoid the commish fees chewing into profits, right?

Also, with the 3x, I remember learning to never hold them overnight a single day, to avoid decay. Should you plan on not hold 3x's, even if you believe in a bull trend that can last an entire year? (such as, lets say, you bought SPXL (SP500 3x bull) at the beginning of the year)
