If looking for a wife or other long term, gold due to it's overall stability and it lending itself well to long term holding. What about central banks then? The rule for PM's is the same as nearly any asset, it seems least attractive when it is most profitable to buy. Even with those in the know quietly buying Gold, so long as the general sentiment is that shiny rocks are worthless one should be accumulating as much as he can.
