The majority of wealth is created by people who already have it and the ability to move from poor/middle class is a myth. This is perpetuated by the rich fixated on holding their power. It's perpetuated by upper middle class baby boomers because they got theirs during two of the globe's biggest economic booms. It's also perpetuated by the the dreams of the poor (/biz/) that one day, they too might l2code and make tech-bro salary or win the lottery (crypto). 90% of Americans make less than $173,000. This is a combined household number that applies to US demographics. Given that this board generally has a younger demographic, this means 99% of you make less than $41/hr. (173k / 2 = 86.5k per year. 86.5 / 52 weeks per year = $41/hr)

The American Dream ended decades ago. A high school education, a knack for showing up on time every day, and steadfast work ethic are all but useless in today's society. Everything and everyone is disposable, planned obsolesce no longer applies to just objects but to people too. While the labor pool has always been considered disposable by the rich they at least had to look you in the eye while they told you to eat shit. Now they can tell you to eat shit with even more disconnect, thanks to Zoom meetings and Slack. In a booming economy that has local production of goods, "hard work pays off" was true. Modern economies are complex and nuanced, but some factors that contribute to this no longer being the case include outdated economic policy, outsourcing labor to 2nd world countries like Mexico, mass immigration, middle class wage suppression, and a cultural that emphasizes instant gratification.

The rich want you to believe 01. and 02. because if you believe those things, you will be a good wage earner for their benefit. If they dangle the carrot in front of your dumb donkey ass, your labor/talent can be exploited and the product/service sold so THEY make money - not you. Poor people, dumb people, and smart middle class people, should not be told that wealth is created by environment and circumstance. Being successful has almost nothing to do with work ethic or intelligence and everything to do with the family you were born in and what opportunities come with insulating yourself with people who have power to move things forward.
