I’ll start: Engineering.

I fell for the engineering scam hook, line, and sinker. I “Iiked math” in high school (could do basic calculus) and “didn’t want to go to school for a long time, engineering pays a lot with just a bachelors!”. In reality, engineering is the biggest scam out there, it’s been paying 60k starting out since 2008 and 80k with 8 years of experience since 2004.

The engineering meme ruined my life, I can’t believe I fell for it. Low pay, stress, no advancement, and if I want to change industries I have to start over at entry level.

Which meme did you fall for that financially ruined your life?

>> No.52651786

I’ve made minor mistakes along the way. Should have taken profits more often, negotiated pay, and switched jobs every few years.

Sure if I did everything perfectly I’d have 8 figures, but I can’t complain about where I’m at today.

We can only move forward. Regretting the past is the biggest meme to fall for.

I'm currently getting help from a gov worker to try and find a job so I stop being a neet. He send me a list of companies and orgs he contacted who want to have initial talks. These include banks, insurance companies, orgs dedicated to train you in IT and since there's a worker shortage I have decent chances of getting in somewhere, but I have no idea what kind of job isnt soul crushing and what I even like.
I'm an INTP-t, 130IQ (real score, not an online one), chadlite (if that matters), low confidence, depressed, demoralized, 30yo in western europe. Thinking of going for a gov job if possible and just enjoy the pay and low stress environment.
What life/wagie traps should I look out for bros?

Everyone has, if I kept my 500+ bitcoins that I fucked around with back on mt gox days and didn't use it to buy drugs I'd be done for life.

Drugs were good though, what a time the early and mid 00's. I really am going to hate when they make a tv series that tries to recreate the late 00's and early 10's.

I wish for that kind of life again, personally, being in 30's now isn't bad, but, I don't do risky things anymore even though my ADHD helped me get me where I am today by taking risks.

Sigh

I’m only 21 so don’t really have a card to play here but I’ll say what has caused me grief and fucked me the hardest thus far. Getting into a 2 year long relationship and letting myself get guilted into staying with her. I love her a lot, but I’d be 15K richer and have less stress. We have to share a car which I wouldn’t have to do if not for her and we both work, so gas and maintenance is sky high. It’s taught me a lot, but really knowing what I know if this relationship faulters, not only am I not dating, I’m not even going to fuck women. Not for a long time anyways. I find them to be a waste of time and something men prioritize far too much. But that’s my thing. Hardly a life fuck up yet but it’s been something that might have hit me the wrong way. I researched Android and Node.js in college during my spare time outside of my studies, and that alone got me my first job. They really didn't want to train anyone and just wanted to hire a guy who could get up to speed fast. I was fixing bugs in their code on my first day.
At my second position, I had never used Microsoft stuff at all, but I did so well in the interview that they decided to hire me anyway. My resume also impressed them, especially my familiarity with various parts of Amazon Web Services.
My third position was referral from a guy at my first position. Just called me up one day and was like "we keep firing people and I need someone who I can work with." He knows how good I am, so he got me the job.

This is hard for me to write but I feel like I need to get this off my chest.

I yolo'd my entire portfolio into GME and AMC at the relative bottom before they 10xd. I was up so fucking huge. I literally thought I was going to be a multi millionaire. I would have random moments where I would just scream out LETS FUCKING GOOOOOO. Thankfully I took some profits and was not a complete retard but I basically left hundreds of thousands on the table and slowly watched the value of my portfolio tank over the last two years. Literally could have sold, paid taxes on the gains, have enough money left over to buy a condo or house , AND buy back in to my core position after the price tanked.

But I was a fucking retard and listened to a bunch of larping financial detectives on reddit who were screaming BUY AND HOLD, HEDGIES ARE FUK, etc . Moass is coming hurr durr. Everyone always made it seem like the epic short squeeze was right around the corner but its been 2 years plus now and I am just fed up. I've wasted so much of my life going through amc and gme subreddits, /biz/ threads, and scrolling through twitter threads reading dd provided by people I do not know or even trust.

Honestly, at this point I am way too scared to sell. I am 99% sure that if I sold and the short squeeze did happen that I would kill myself. I have sunk way too much time into this to just sell and move on now. Sunk cost fallacy, I know. I recognize the irrationality of my actions. I hate what this stupid meme stock play turned me in to. Its like holding a lotto ticket with no expiration date and you just keep waiting and waiting for your numbers to hit.

Big mistake considering I could have took profits, paid off a load of debt and enjoyed some new gadgets while also buying my entire stack + back for less money at the bottom. It’s a little sickening to think about.

If you’re ever in a position where your shit is mooning and you start to “believe”, there is no bigger sell sign. For gods sake take your profits. I was making good trades that run too and selling at the top but on the last one I just believed a little too hard and now I’m a fucking baggie bitch. I keep thinking it can’t go lower and then I wake up to -10%. I still feel fine about the future in general despite the fear but it’s gonna be a long road.

I'm not even telling you the whole story. I got sucked into the XRP riddler bullshit too. Bought at the lows and saw the price hit 1.80. Didn't sell. Been holding that shit for 4 years now. Honestly, I feel fucking stupid for doing so.

Yeah, I was definitely obsessed and would have crazy depressive episodes.

For a while, I would go through phases of depression and hypomania. My career stagnated because I kept believing that the short squeeze would make me a millionaire or that XRP would moon and I could just start a brand new life so I can just coast with this easy job. My family and gf started to get really worried about me. Dude, it was really bad and dark time in my life. Got sucked into GME,AMC, XRP, Q anon bullshit. Literally, looking back I should have gone to see a psychologist. or something.

Eventually I snapped out of it and decided to rebuild and actually started to pursue some good remote work ops. Got a better job and went back to gymming n being healthy.

Now, for the most part, I'm doing okay. Not exactly financially free but I'm not struggling either.

There's nothing better then being able to be yourself, not have to walk on eggshells and not have to lie to avoid arguments with a girl you really like and admire. You realize that PhDs are one of the biggest scams of all these days right? There are way, way too many PhDs out there and the number minted is going up and up.

There is a vicious "up or out" in academia and you won't realize it until it's too late. You get comfortable, you know all the school, they won't drop you. They fucking will man, you don't get published or advance in some major way in a limited time you are GONE. The amount of people who got phds and then failed out of academia and struggling to put their lives together since the corporate world doesn't treat academic stuff as real work experience (with good reason lol).

Oh calm down I know that, the goal is to get at least a couple high quality publications done in my time here and I wouldn't even bother pursuing a PHD if I didn't have ideas I really believed in. Furthermore, I'm also trying to learn as many skills as I can (do quality experiments in the lab and using buzzword stuff like robotics/automation/code/AI) so that I have a solid corporate backup plan. I don't think there's any reason at all I wouldn't be able to get at least some shitty 80k/yr associate scientist job at a pharma company or something.

And finally, academia isn't fucked everywhere, it's the worst in the US. I have reason to believe that you can get academic jobs if you apply literally everywhere on the globe that's hiring/growing (think the gulf countries, rural china, parts of SEA, mining school of western north dakota or some shit, etc.). It is a bit of a pyramid scheme but I don't think everything is really THAT fucked.

I fell for the
>le nepotism is bad
lie that the tribe sells to the goyim. They use nepotism themselves but tell us that it's a bad thing, they want us to use it. So I quit a great job I got via nepotism and grinded by myself, wasted about a decade and didn't even get close to the point where I was year 1 with the nepotism bonus. Point is, if life gives you lemons do something with them instead of listening to the tribe that tells you to reject the lemons that life gave you for free and "follow your dream"

If you're legitimately an engineer and have the ability to wield that sweet, sweet stamp you can become a claims whore in Florida (or wherever else). There are tons of contractors looking for anons to do forensic examination to help fuck the insurance companies into paying on property claims. There are also carries looking for engineers to attempt to fuck the policyholders so they don't have to pay claims. There are also structural inspections on either end to see if the building is even safe to repair, or whether it's a total loss. I use a company called SEI out of Florida for my inspections. We paid two guys 10k for a 3 hour inspection and report.

Dayam, son! ....grass is always greener, anon. Just ask any married guy you know. If they are really honest they will tell you that they often wish they were single again. Fact is: life is hard for most people. Go do the things you are good at and do it for people, either for free or for a fee. Put your talents to where it will be appreciated.

>> No.52665167

dude....just fucking cut your losses and move on. I know it can be hard, but you are literally torturing yourself. Luck has so much to do with life, but also your actions in exposing yourself to different things, and in doing different things. NO ONE GETS TO TAKE ANY MATERIAL GOODS OFF THIS ROCK. It's really your call, but I think you should move on with your life into some kind of productive use of the talents you have (or develop a talent!). At the end of your life, will you be more proud of struggle and blessing others with a talent, or of your holdout on a stock/squeeze+luck? It really is your call, but you have only one life.

I fell for the playboy lifestyle meme. Through uni I had plenty of gfs and opportunities with chicks from great middle class families, sophisticated, educated, daddy’s rich and mom’s good looking types.
I thought it would never end, got as much pussy as I could handle for years, but now I’m scraping the barrel with Tinder trash and my chance of marrying into a better class of people has disappeared.
