Read it with two book marks. It gets a lot of hate for being top tier gen x, but it's absolutely beautiful prose and if you're depressed, there are so many parts of the book that will read like Wallace is inside your head. Be warned, it is a serious slog (but worth it), so I wouldn't recommend getting back into reading with Infinite Jest. Start with Watership Down or Hyperion.

>tobacco pipes don’t have holes
You don't smoke a tobacco pipe like a bong. You puff on the tobaccoo in the bowl periodically to get the flavour profile in your mouth and nose. And you don't inhale. Personally, I love the smell and flavour of cigars, but I can't smoke a whole one. If they had a cure for lung cancer, I'd smoke cigarettes, but until then a pipe once a day with my coffee while reading works for me.

>>52642442
no, just like if you drink from a straw the liquid goes in your mouth then you have to swallow. Same with smoke you have to draw it into your mouth and then inhale to get it in your lungs. The proper way to experience the full flavor of a cigar is to draw in the mouth and then expel. Inhaling cigar smoke is like smoking a pack of cigs in one stick, it just makes you sick and ruins the taste.

Trading is weird, sleep with friends, break a heart
Question everything you bought
Split a hedge, smoke a strangle
Trading stocks is weird, fall in a year up in a day
And then it disappear, wish my stocks were up
Trading is strange, get too much gains, feel no fame
Lose it all feel no shame
Thinking you would do the same
No regrets, no mistakes
Trading stocks is weird, when the one who’s to blame

>Powell wants to separate the stock market from the economy. Right now they are correlated 1-1 and have been for 20+ years.
no, the stock market, along with real estate, have just been the primary recipients of the M2 expansion

the reason QE didn't cause hyperinflation was because the people collecting the new cheap money were banks. which then invested the money, using the cheap debt to leverage the housing market and stocks

when the helicopter money happened inflation spiked and this causes a feedback loop with cheap consumer credit feeding it causing it to go even higher. supply chain issues did not help

Now housing is 10x the median wage (up from 4-5x in the 90s). Stocks are, in regards to even nominal gdp, at their most overvalued ever in history.
>>52643008

regardless of how the fed does it, it needs to be done. If the fed lets inflation stay high and rates low(er) then a wage price spiral will ensue pushing inflation to double digits. On top of this, the federal government its running out of room to deficit spend and needs to run a suplus within the next decade to avoid a default. The ron paul its habbening moment is coming up very quickly unless the degenerates at the capitol get their act together fast.

No, because any schizo scenario where Visa drains my checking account out of nowhere would also apply to Bank of America doing so. And any large scale fuckery of that type will cause about as much disruption to my daily life as a an hour of phone calls and/or the end of western civilization.

At that point, compared with the thousands in CC rewards I've earned, being hit with $100 in overdraft charges or late fees that get rolled back are small ball.

This chart is a Fed survey so the numbers say whatever they want it to say. Dotcom and 2008 were very heavily predicted. Anyone financially literate knew what was going on wasnt sustainable. They wanted to act like it was some totally unforeseeable event that caused the recession. Now they are ahead of the narrative and have a million things to throw the blame on. I don't think being a contrarian is wise when we know a choice has to be made between very high inflation and a recession.

FRED graph effectively illustrates that every recession since 1957 has been preceded by a yield curve inversion. (Note that the lag between the inversion and a recession varies: With the 10-year and 1-year yields, the lag is between 8 and 19 months, with an average of about 13 months.)

Not being a contrarian. Just questioning the time frame of when the recession will occur. When everyone is shorting the market the opposite tends to happen.

Money makers are NOT IDIOTS. They will do whatever they can to ensure you and everyone else in the markets does not make any money. When every retail trader and hedge fund are SHORTING this market. they will find a way to ensure you lose money. Look at the WSB sentiment they are EXTREMELY BEARISH.

Recession just doesn't happen like BOOM. It takes months sometimes years before they occur. Unless we get a black swan event, I think it's possible the we avoid a recession until 2024.

Another chart for you to look at: A recession occurs AFTER the Fed starts CUTTING rates, and AFTER the unemployment rate is clearly climbing from the bottom.

We're already in a recession.
This board is really peak dimwit nowadays.
The bottom will be in after black Friday ain't so black. Job market uncertainty and the elimination of time-specific sales by broadening "black Friday" sales windows is all going to cool consumer demand to nothing.
Gonna be a lot of floorspace under the Christmas tree this year, and after that markets tank. Dead cat bounce into new year until Q1 profits show that consumers ain't paying, then there will be a new societal shift wherein the previously unemployed/underemployed attempt to enter the job market as the fed cuts rates.
I'm calling the layman knowledge of the economic turmoil circa march 2023 when job market pressures crater payrolls, housing bubble once again pops, and retail firms realize they're fucked because younger generations aren't nearly as consoomer as gen X.
