My financial goal is to be able to afford (buy in cash) a brand new rav4 hybrid in basic LE trim. How could I realistically achieve it?

>> No.52555942

Low IQ. Imagine buying a vehicle with an MSRP of $30k when you can buy something used for $2000 that achieves the same exact thing. Believe me, to really rich people you look as poor driving this as you would a 2011 crown vic police interceptor, with the added insult of advertising to the world you blew 30k plus tax and tip on a new vehicle as some sort of cope. No clout, no sex appeal, no fun. You might as well spend $30k on a Bentley Continental GT. Imagine burning your money like this. Imagine having such low sentience and intelligence that blowing 30k on something that will be worth 3k in 10 years is a good idea. The total vehicle price should be less than 10% of your income, meaning youd need to be making over 300k to realistically afford this without it setting you back in life. If you go through with it, hopefully someone in a RAM 2500 pounding some beers slams into you and puts you out of your misery.

It's a good car bro. I have it in black. Recommend not getting it in black unless you enjoy cleaning it every weekend
I get avg ~830km per tank (~500miles). Trunk space is huge. Easy to park. Sensors everywhere. Radar cruise control w/steering assist is awesome on long drives. Nav unit is awesome and the stereo blasts metal like a champ
Highly recommended

to achieve this I saved money for several years and drove a shitbox

Do the break even calculation. Compared to $2000 25 MPG car, it would take you 47 years to realize the savings of a 30k vehicle at 40mpg driving 13,500 miles a year and that's not including inevitable battery maintenence and replacement of a hybrid which costs in excess of $3500 and can be expected every 10 years.
>and won't break down
Dubious with a hybrid with all sorts of fail points of both gas and electric systems.
> and it will retain a lot of it's value anyways
It's a depreciating asset, by its very nature, it won't.

Dealers ask for more if you try to buy in cash because they make most money from financing.

Just say you want to finance 100% in exchange for a cheaper price. Sign the deal. Then immediately pay off the entire debt so you pay zero interest. Then you win.

4 or 5 years ago I could buy a decent shit box for $1000 to $1500 that needed a little bit of work to be a cheap reliable car. Now any thing under $2000 is a complete piece of shit that is some combination of: rusted to fuck, over 250,000 miles, needs major work like engine or transmission replaced, clearly ragged to fuck / owned by minorities, or is a known nightmare piece of shit model. Most decent cars are typically over $4000 now.

under no circumstances should anyone do this as a daily driver, any bentley for that price is going to be a clapped ex-rental fleet car, or a high-mile unmaintained piece of shit.

as a project? sure, maybe, because then you're 1) acknowledging it's probably a barely-running unroadworthy dog that needs lots of work, and 2) preparing yourself mentally for the fact you just bought a money pit.

sure, but if you've got money it doean't matter. you'll eat the initial cost, the depreciation, the maintenance, the fuel etc. just so you get the best seat at the restaurant.

fuck, in my city it's so common to see rolls royce that you have to buy a 2-digit license plate for more than the car itself, to distinguish yourself from the peasants who can only afford the rolls and not the plate.

for rich people money is literally just quality of life tokens, it doesn't matter.

Just IMAGINE having to fork out $100s of thousands of dollars for a chance to eat some goyslop at a restaurant. Big yikes.
Anyway, you can just rent an expensive car for an occasion - different occasion, different car. Let the so-called "rich" people eat the cost of ownership. Not my problem.

50/50, there is also sunk cost of repair, warranty and then treating it like a rental.
purchasing it new for 30k msrp, and reselling it for 32k 2 years later, is a masterful strategy with only the insurance and fuel cost being charged off - which is nothing.

Now the past two years party is over, yes, but, god damn that was a great time.

But no, anon, your way of thinking seems best, but it is not correct. There is also 0%-3% loans, which, basically are free money.

i agree though. dumb purchase. you can get a tacoma for the same price and its a nicer looking vehicle. or like you say find a used car and fix it up for a few grand. if you get something with a big engine like a crown vic you can invest money in the block and drag race people for money. or just roast tires and look cool.

unpopular opinion but i had a tacoma as a demo vehicle for a while and absolutely hated it. it's got this cramped kinda schoolbus driving position and shift action. it also handles like a fucking dog relative to the suv's. i demo'd a highlander for a bit too, and i could legit cut up in it at decent speeds. in the taco cuts at anything more than 70 felt way too sketchy.
