Personally I am not going to start DCAing into storage until unemployment is higher (at least 5.5-6%). Here are the picks I have looked over in the sector:
EXR - Second in mkap to PSA, but has overtaken it in terms of growth. Decent looking balance sheet. Seems like the best of the bunch.
PSA - Largest in mkap. Also has exposure to Europe via Euronext Brussels:SHUR. Balance sheet less good on this one than EXR, but they have the most locations.
CUBE - Has done pretty good with growth in the past. Seems more like they target transient movers (college students) over hoarders.
LSI (Formerly Uncle Bob's) - Seems pretty mediocre. Not a lot exciting looking over their site + balances. Won't do horribly, won't do too well.
NSA - This one seems to be an umbrella for many third party storage companies and specifically markets themselves as a trust. The newest of the bunch with good growth and a strong divvy.
SELF - This one SUCKS. Big stinky microdick crap. Barely recovers when it dips. It does have the largest dividend of the bunch at 4.45%, but maybe they should lower it and use the extra money to make their business better.
SVI (TODO research) - Canadian company. Own most of the market share.
I haven't checked back on the recent performance since I knew they were going to get rekt but I got some NSA and CUBE recently. I am going with PSA NSA CUBE LSI and toss up between EXR or SELF (if I wanna gamble)

I like playing DRIP because the bullish catalyst of the russian/Ukraine war ending would also heem oil so it's a weird bullish/bearish hybrid. If oil tries to make a rally next week I'll be eyeing $14 Feb 2023 DRIP calls.

Getting into something like JEPI or TMF around 370 SPY is a great play and I don't only play the line down I was 100% bullish at 350.

Be careful with options. Just put them on your watchlist and track them and you will get a feel for how they move and when they are a good price. SQQQ shares are risk free right now in my opinion.. they might go down super short term but 100% will print by q1 2023

Present strategy: buy a few stocks intending something of a blend between swing and position trading while keeping my eye out for any particularly stand out opportunity for options. Though before I actually do any of that I'm trying to learn the tools to the point of being able to feel them in my bones so that I can use them when the time comes.

Present experience: My son is in a program that let him buy some stocks and keep the gains. I did his picks which were bought Feb 2021, all S&P (had 120 to choose from), and I've watched them daily ever since, seeing the ebbs/flows, learning some of the psychology along the way (we can't buy/sell at will so just have to watch the dives, and hold through obvious peaks). All of his are up a minimum of 13% so far. We got to do one pick one to sell and a new to replace it in Nov 2021, still awaiting approval for the 2nd one just recently.

During this, without knowing the terms, I just naturally developed a swing/position strategy.

A quick short example of why you shouldn't fear divvy income as some big tax burden.
Ok, divvy income counts as income to the IRS even when you reinvest it. Say your married and your combined income is 70,000. This puts you in the 12% tax bracket. Long term cap gains (any stock held for longer than 1 year) also apply. If your in the 12% bracket you owe nothing for any stock held for over 1 year. Now on to divvy income. Short and simple; you gotta be pulling down a shat load of income, over 10,000 a year to push you over that 12% tax limit. So yeah, don't fear the divvy. By the time you do hit 10,000 a year taxes will be the least of your issues.
