Is our workforce really that redundant? How can tech companies fire 10%-20% of staff and continue functioning normally? Are tech companies just packed with lattee siping 20 something millennial tech grads who do useless zoom meetings all day?

Not just tech, I work for a Fortune 500 manufacturing company and have the most superfluous, useless job you could imagine. Most of IT for these companies and basically 100% of their HR/diversity none sense positions are bloat too.

what do you think HR and marketing do?
do you think they fired engineers? maybe they fired some super expensive senior guys in "new features" divisions, but they've mostly kept their maintenance engineers to keep everything running

Anon most companies got way to much overhead. Overhead comes when people want to enlarge their importance and position within a company (managing 40 people is deemed more successful then 8). Also you give yourself some meat to cut when times it though. Most companies who doesn't produce any psychical good or service won't need a company bigger then 500 people imo.

I wouldn’t worry too much. If anything it’s a bit of a sign of health as the company can afford to keep said bloat (obviously you’d prefer more efficiency). Also, if we go into a full on recession we will all be let go.

whats funny is everyone talks about 80% of people don't do any work, but they themselves are NEVER part of that 80%. it's always everyone else, right? never you. btw even with all this overhead most tech companies make a huge profit still. twitter is just a useless valueless company that didn't deserve to exist in the first place. just like if 4chan was a company.

They didn't actually lay anyone off. Ask yourself why the MSM would run these layoff stories on the front pages. When has anything they've ever said been true?
It's rhetoric to either trick the Fed into pivoting so they can take out more cheap debt to buy their own stock, OR they're working with the Fed to throw normies into despair (probably to kill money velocity).

I work at a financial institution rather than a tech company, but I'm a software engineer. New projects have lots of staffing but running projects don't. For example, a big data/ETL project starting out will have 3-5dev, 3qa, 2ops, project manager, data owners, project owner. Once the apps are completed you keep the ops people, and assign 1dev and one 1qa to flex into the project as needed for bug fixes and minor enhancements. It goes from 15+ FTE's plus offshore contractors to like 2.2 with the potential for 4. When big layoffs like this are happening they're transitioning projects to a "keep the lights on" status rather than active development. You keep your ops, key devs, and QA people and get rid of everyone else.

I swear the company I work for has remade the same product 4 times now with slightly different branding, yet the manager had the engineers completely remake each one. During bull market, when the interest rates are low, PR is everything, the better PR you got the more money you will raise. If big investors (think WEF) want diversity, you hire a shitload of black women.

Enter the bear market, interests are rising and investments are drying up. Now your company has to actually make financial sense. You no longer compete on the arena of public perception, but rather on your product, cost efficiency, etc. Regular capitalist shit.

The owners know it but they will lie to your face. Why do you think Elon Musk got such a bad rep the whole time? He wasn't competing in this bullshit game, staying true to capitalism the whole time. That's how he's outcompeting everyone.

Basically, market green - socialism, market red - capitalism

Do you understand why he bought Twitter? The most socialist, diverse company?

First off, some of these software companies are extremely efficiient in what they do so they can have a ton of garbage and do well.

Also, we're at the end of a credit expansion cycle, this last phase could last a few years more, the population growth demands more from natural resources and energy and productivity doesn't keep up. I live in a europoor country and in every town I go to I see a skyline of cranes, you have a guaranteed job in construction and the trades. In the following years the trend will continue with the hiking interest rates and "real" jobs like mechanical, oil engineers, trades, etc. gaining in value and good tech job will get more scarce.

Once this period ends, another "catastrophe" will arise, rug everyone and stimulus deployed again to expand credit once the "real" resources produces are abundant, but can take more than ten years.

If you prepare correctly you have investment ideas for a lifetime switching between leveraged debt stocks, commodities and bond exposure (and perhaps some crypto moons).

It's even worse than that. Most large companies (not just tech) have fallen into the superfluous corrupt bureaucracy trap.

Insanely top heavy companies where administrators, admin assistants, assistants of assistants, and various HR personnel dominate the upper echelons of a company. Especially tech companies.

Meanwhile the productive group is understaffed and overworked to help bloat the salaries of the useless facebooker, tiktokker, and twitterer vermin. They send a few emails, check a few web stats, hold a meeting or two, then fuck around the rest of the time.

Working Exec support really opened my eyes as to how utterly fucking useless business major leeches and their HR lapdogs are. Most of our companies are insanely overvalued, and held up largely by name.

Everything is redundant OP. We dont need tech. We dont need to live like this and its destroying itself for us. Humans lived fine for several thousand years before the industrial revolution. We dont need such a big workforce they are just there to be paypigs to be drained in useless service/junk selling companies to cater to the worthless workforce. Tech is dying along with the post industrial society. Isaac newton could have never existed and we would be fine. Civilization was working without any big crashes and economic problems in the 12th century. Most humans belong on a farm farming and reproducing others to farm until the end of earth they dont deserve the jobs of the 21st century its a blip in time and we are going back to 17th century levels where things were more stable. People will be trapped in local areas again and global communications will fade away to be remembered as myth beyond our lifetimes.

Famines were necessary external pressures to keep society in check and genetics healthy. Everything post discovery of laws of mechanics is an attempt to keep famines away. We have tons and tons of staff who do internal IT, Human Resources, diversity, purchases, policy compliance and a host of other functions which has NOTHING to do with servicing our paying customers. They're all internal roles, all coasting off the money we make from what our product and engineering teams build, and that our account management and sales & consulting teams sell. Some of them are alright (like payroll, thanks for paying my salary!) but I'm wondering how much a 20-something "digital transformation consultant" really contributes to our bottom line.

most white collar jobs are indeed redundant. New Fiscal year happens, the dept, gets more money, and a chunk of that is spent of recruitment. Why? so more of the work is spread out lightening the workload of everyone. This is how you end up with people that get nothing done. because there is nothing to do. So they read emails and have meetings for a majority of their day. the rest is spent in excell looking over data, or delegating tasks.
I work in Trucking now having previously worked in and around tech. the level of task saturation i experience would be considered inhuman by most tech workers. Most trucking terminals, in terms of management, work on the most skeleton of crews. one person is generally responsible for 20 dock workers, planning routes for 30+ LH drivers, load factor, freight management, equipment levels, and processing data that is generally an hour late. Any other industry, 10 people would be dedicated to all of that.
again, yes. most jobs are redundant and can be done by a vastly smaller crew.

Short feminization all the way to the bottom. In 20 years the balance will be restored : men doing dirty work and women at home with children.

> Imagination is usually better than reality.
The truth! Even if they don't have beef curtains, they're just people. Parts of them smell. Sometimes you like the smell, sometimes you don't. Sometimes they're drenched with sweat and makeup all fucked up and nasty rubbing a vagina that smells like dirty milk and coins on your face and you think to yourself, "It wasn't supposed to end like this. I don't know how I'm going to get through it." Then you take off their clothes and their tits manage to sag like bananas even though they're only an A cup and their nipples like like helicopter landing pads. And they really, REALLY need you to make them feel beautiful so you're pressured to lie to them like "oh gawd ur so hot" even though you want to chuck them into the closest shower and yell, "It puts the soap on the skin or it gets the hose again!" And even IF you get through all of this.... there's no guarantee her pussy will be tight enough to squeeze through the cocaine and zombie death grip dick you've induced from months of shameless masturbation at home. So now you've got a caked out banana saggin wizard sleeve begging for your love while her face melts all over your sheets bent over taking a mauling from your coke dick praying to God you could just nut already. But God can't hear you.

People are people. OP's girl looks delicious... but only God knows if the sex will be a dream or a nightmare.

Meanwhile in reality fertility is all time low and the rate of decrease is accelerating. Sexual activity is the lowest on record. Boomers killed sex, there's no gender role revolution coming.

Tbh I think it might me a burger issue. I used to work at a burger company's office in eastern EU and we had like 15 people in our part of the 'marketing department.' The weight was pulled by me and two other guys. Later one of them quit and a girl took over his duties. The rest were just dead weight that did the occasional task once or twice a week. Funniest part is that the three of us that carried the weight needed just 3-4 hours a day to finish our shit. I have no idea how the company (it is small) is not bankrupt yet with their management. We could have literally been 3 people in the office and would be getting the same job done. If they paid us like 30% of the wages of the unnecessary dead weight, we could have done miracles I assume. But this culture or whatever it is kills any desire for progress and development - day after day seeing people being useless, arriving 3 hours late, leaving 2 hours early, and taking 2 hour lunch breaks. I mean I did the same but at least I got some shit done

This would be a best case scenario
more likely the way i see it everything going on now is going to put us right back into the dark ages
the elites think its funny playing their mind fuck games on the world pushing the radical left wokism and LGBTQ+s2BLM and every other identity politics cards they can play

it is utterly destroying the world. cancel culture. if they don't succeed in rebuilding it into whatever fucked up fantasy ideological world they have planned, it is going back to the dark ages. and well be 1000s of years climbign our of that mess again.
just look how long it took "modern man" to get where we are form our most recent primitive livings. not that long a i suppose, 2000 years, with the last 200 years being the exponential advancement of course.
but if these idiots put us into the dark ages, we could lose everything and be back to square one of 2000 years ago

Avoid costs whilst being a massive cost centre themselves. I was a management consultant before I went independent, believe me, I genuinely feel that any corporate company could cut their headcount by 75% and still remain fully operational. Adopting streamlined software to replace pen pushers is much easier when the friction caused by said pen pushers have left the company.

Look at an early-stage tech startup and their team might consist of several engineers, a sales lead and maybe marketing. HC is low and output is high; plenty of these have turned into scale-ups without significantly increasing headcount (Notion for example, or Instagram before they were acquired). It's when they get a plush funding round is when the bullshit jobs come into play, that then inevitably leads to massive cuts across the board when the good times end (cashflow issues, negative macro economic outlook etc.).

Then, take a look at the giants who are pushing $500k-$1.5m profit per employee; Amazon, Microsoft, Apple etc. PPE justifies all the positions, but as soon as that starts dipping, cuts begin to happen - so they can rebalance and get back to the previous PPE they are at.

Maintaining our knowledge on technological advancements is all that we need. Just because one side of the globe loses its civilization, it does not mean that the whole world regresses. Ancient Rome collapsed, East became the predominant center of development while Europe was plummeted in the Medieval ages until the Portuguese discovered the seas and created new trade routes for Western Europe to gather resources and accumulate wealth and catapulted the industrial age which cemented the West again as the revolutionary force of technological progress. Anything short of a Bronze Age Collapse, humanity will find its way back - just at a steeper pace until something clicks again. It's been like that from time immemorial.

pssht, nothing personal kid

there are some key findamentals involved. to wit, the dumbing down of civvies is drastically and dangerously reducing the percentage of qualified techincally and mechanically skilled person who are able to build, repair, maintain and operate computers, machinery, etcetera

there has been studies of course, to evaluate this throretical scenario, whereby, once you have below the minimum percetnage of popultion comprised of said skilled persons, electriations, mechanics, doctors, nurses, lab specialists, machinists, carpenters, plumbers, engineers, botanists, chemists, biologists, foresters, mason, foundry workers, artisans of all sorts, farmers, ranchers, blacksmiths, etc
the service and he skill and ability is gone, lost and can not practically hold up civilization at any status quo
i.e., the world crumbles around us
