Shotguns are kinda meh for an untrained person. They have more of a learning curve, you have to manually pump it, have lots of recoil, loud as fuck and will blow your eardrums out. And you can’t carry it concealed in public like a pistol. If you only have one self defense gun get a pistol

Imo the glock 19 or the beretta 92FS are the bread and butter. Glock 19 functionally slightly edges out the 92FS but I like the feel of the 92FS in my hands a lot more (I’m 6’3” with large hands). My dad owns the glock 19 and he likes it but the 92FS is better imo. Also looks way sexier. Don’t concealed carry tho until you get comfortable with handguns, and even then get a smaller gun

If you want a revolver, get a revolver. Get an old Smith and Wesson or something. You can definitely find them for way under a grand, there are crazy fancy expensive revolvers out there but there are also old police surplus ones for a few hundred bucks.

Love everything Beretta. Agree about the 92fs, it's a fantastic piece and easy to learn to use well. Personally, I bought a Px4 Storm a few years ago. Lovely gun and has similarities (being Beretta) to the 92. Highly recommend it.
