im looking at getting a huge lump sum payment soon but trouble is im not sure how to claim it, my girlfriend will be receiving it actually, she was involved in an accident recently. one of the big supermarkets i wont say which but the revolving doors blew up when she went inside and she nearly lost another arm. the trouble is that she won't be getting a lump sum as she has down syndrome and the money will be held by her social worker and this bitch won't even pay out the whole sum but just give out installments. she's agreed to buy my gf a new wheelchair and backbrace but the rest of the money will be given monthly. is this even legal? my gf doesn't have any family, our parents passed away last year so is it possible i could apply to be her guardian and take custody of the money? we are in a sexual relationship though so would the court see that as a warning sign?? im literally all she has left now and feed and water her daily, this bitch social worker does nothing and always thinks she knows best. this is a financial question so i figured id ask you guys.
