Supply and demand.
Why would there be more buyers than sellers? People are expecting a big move.
Why would there be more sellers than buyers? People are expecting a crab.
Furthermore, the demand for calls/puts at any strike on any date pushes up the prices in the rest of the options chain. Why? It would create arbitrage opportunities if it didn't (box spreads, debit spreads for a credit, credit spreads for a debit, free calendar spreads, etc.)

Alright emotions are high, and its very clear that there is a divisive opinion on the stock market.

I can agree with the bull case that inflation is slowing and the Fed Pivot™ is coming, SPY is down 17% from ATH's, there is seller exhaustion and capitulation going on.

But I also think that the months of high rates will undoubtedly have a significant impact on many markets in the coming future, and the decade high of low low interest rates inflated the market to disproportionate levels beyond what would ever have been considered normal in the past.

Interest rates are not 0.25% anymore, evaluations need to change. I personally suspect that we will continue in a downward seesaw pattern until SPY reaches 320 to test the pre-covid all time high, and even then that might not be the floor.

During my afternoon "break" (uh it lasted the whole afternoon) I decided to trim my portfolio down. Decided it was a bit to big and cut it to just the positions I used in daily life/knew pretty well. The upshot was divvy income increased over 11%. The other upshot; tax loss harvest so my forthcoming taxes will get a break (again; still got some harvesting carrying over).

What are the implications of UVXY/SQQQ/SOXS? I mean, if a market crash were to occur, I'd imagine some whales would rush into these inverse leveraged ETFs, so the concept of everyone going broke in a market crash is kinna dated. In fact, you would make more money with UVXY in a few hours/days than you could with QQQ for several years. Just curious. I think it changes the dynamic associated with crashes/recessions.
